NHS/ government run healthcare is cheaper as you're not paying out as much in profits to private hospitals. It is fairer and need based rather than wealth based. It is essentially a bigger, cheaper and more comprehensive form of health insurance that covers everyone.

The NHS saved my life 3 times, cost the NHS more than $500k and in america that would have cost me (if I could raise the dough) around $1,600,000. I would have died there.

1st of the 47 mil. 10 mill are not U.S. Citizens, 11 mil choose not to buy Insurance and 10 mil qualify for a Gov. program but have not signed up for one. We need affordable private insurance from for-profit insurance companies with a direct connection between doctor and patient, exchanging a service for payment. Get the government involved directly and you get nothing but problems - fraud and all types of abuse.

If the consumer controls the money they control the Market. If employers gave the dollars to employees people can purchase any plan nationwide they want. And if Gov. gave medicare recipients vouchers to purchase any plan they wanted. That would make it a true free market where consumers drive prices and cost.
