Ugh...I must say this is one of the lousiest matches I have ever seen. The first of Otto Wanz I had to endure too. If his other matches are not much, MUCH better than I must say he was a much better promoter than a wrestler.
as far as I know and the legend goes Otto bought the title for 50.000 Dollars and a free holiday trip to austria for the gagne
family. at that time it helped him to put himself on the map. later giant baba bought the title for jumbo tsuruta. btw: otto wasn't that bad at all, his championship fights in europe, especially his fights against vader, are quite good and stiff. not a great worker, but a a good one and he was HUGE in Europe and totally over. Otta-Mania was running wild in Europe. :)
Read my lips-Otto Wanz was Auastrian heavyweight in B O X I N G - National Champ. End of 1960s. He wss famous for a huge ko ability. Sure he fakes here but in a real fight Inoki would be dead.
He had a classic match with Leon "Big Van Vader." White in Germany. Anyone who thinks Wanz is a lightweight performer. Watch this fight & it will change your perseption.
I change my earlier statement. Otto Wanz should have been included as champion in the AWA dvd. But so should have Jumbo Tsuruta. Both were AWA champions. Both beat Nick Bockwinkle.
Tsuruta IMHO was 10x the wrestler than Wanz was. But in the WCCW dvd, they mentioned Black Bart as being one of their champions. Though Bart sucked and was totally mid card.
Wanz was champ. and think about this Inoki let him in this tournament. That has got to say something about Wanz's credentials.
Maybe so. But you gotta see it. I got it on a video tape about 15 years ago & stupidly sold it on a car boot sale. But its one to watch if u can ever locate it. They even smash fuck out of dosey fans who try to get involved. What a match.
thanks for that! I didn't know that Wanz even wrestled in japan. I talked to him on several events of the CWA in germany and used to write emails with him in the late nineties, he is really a kewl guy, no doubt. :)
clearly a fake - otto wanz would never lose. obviously this movie is computer generated.
big otto vs. superman, batman, spiderman, bruce lee, hulk, rambo? he would own them all - at once (his only feared enemy is the little prince of katamari damacy, because he could roll him up).
ps: a little known fact is that big otto wanz has his own gravity field, which allows him to let small to medium sized objects (like beer cans, beer barrels or beer transporters) float in an orbit around his belly.
Kinda like how Hogan was god to millions of American children, but really was the drizzling shits in the ring? Inoki was way tougher and far more talented than Hogan, or any other leading light of wrestling.
All new japan cared about was Inoki.

Wanz's job in this match was to put over Inoki and that's exactly what he did.

Otto Wanz is a lousy wrestler. I guess it is true that he paid Verne Gagne to become AWA Champion. He's horrible.

They bought their title reigns, so it's fitting that they get left out of the history books.

Otto Wanz Versus Leon White in Germany is a real brawl. With beer tables & beer glasses used & everything. Wanz won
martinwilliamrandall 3 years ago
He probably bought the win in that match as well.

Antonio Inoki is my No.1 Pro Wrestler!!! I like his entrance theme song!

I don't think it was any mistake that the AWA title reign of Otto Wanz was not even mentioned in the history of AWA DVD-set by WWE.

Easy: He comes from the Town of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He paid AWA head honcho Verne Gagne $50,000 to hold the belt for about a month.

I remember watching Otto Wanz when he was AWA world champion, back then he was a baby face, It's kind of neat to see him here as a heel.
