as far as I know and the legend goes Otto bought the title for 50.000 Dollars and a free holiday trip to austria for the gagne

family. at that time it helped him to put himself on the map. later giant baba bought the title for jumbo tsuruta. btw: otto wasn't that bad at all, his championship fights in europe, especially his fights against vader, are quite good and stiff. not a great worker, but a a good one and he was HUGE in Europe and totally over. Otta-Mania was running wild in Europe. :)

I change my earlier statement. Otto Wanz should have been included as champion in the AWA dvd. But so should have Jumbo Tsuruta. Both were AWA champions. Both beat Nick Bockwinkle.

Tsuruta IMHO was 10x the wrestler than Wanz was. But in the WCCW dvd, they mentioned Black Bart as being one of their champions. Though Bart sucked and was totally mid card.

Wanz was champ. and think about this Inoki let him in this tournament. That has got to say something about Wanz's credentials.

thanks for that! I didn't know that Wanz even wrestled in japan. I talked to him on several events of the CWA in germany and used to write emails with him in the late nineties, he is really a kewl guy, no doubt. :)
