  • Oh makes feel good to be from laredo texas

  • Amazing voice and what amazing feeling he puts into this song! - I'm jealous!.

  • I'm confused. I listen to country music today and it sounds like pop music. Is this real country music? So confused.

  • @freakinstein69 todays country music is more pop...they are taking older rock songs and making them into country songs....which is wrong in my opinion...but to each their own...

  • @vallejo008 rock has done the same

  • @freakinstein69 yes, this is true country music and best of all its not for white trash. Marty Robbins was the last of the cowboys

  • he will always be my hero,,not so much for his wonderful music but we share some thing,,we both drove(and i still do) high powered stock cars,my bucket list has a few fast laps at daytona on it,,turned 65 yesterday so i best get with the program

  • I love this song..and not to change the topic but I heard someone say there are no more country singers out there anymore that follow in the steps of Hank, Marty, Merle and the other legends...well I'm 38 and have been pursuing a music career for years...just because you haven't heard of those like myself doesn't mean we aren't out there! I'm trying to get myself out there...but believe me it's all been an uphill battle. Ajelina1940, love your videos...hats off to you and your talent my friend.

  • I knew Marty, he was "the voice", no one will ever match the magnifiance of his presentation of a song!

  • Anyone else think its funny how the best western (NOT Country, ew.) songs are all sung by Marty? Rest in peace, pal.

  • Great song and great voice

  • Such a great voice !

  • r.i.p marty

I actually walked the streets of laredo while waiting for a greyhound bus in 75,i thought of going across to nuevo laredo but was too tired. Nowadays i wouldn't recomend mexico at any cost.

  • Great job on the song. The first time I heard Marty sing this song I got chills all up my spine. I could just picture him in that plane flying over El Paso. WOW Thanks!

  • I love this song. I'm in the *shuddering* Beiber generation but I love this song especially since I sang this in my high school choir. RIP Cole Tyrell

  • Music like this doesn't come along every day. Or century for that matter. Then again people have the right to listen to any kind of music they want.

  • Beats the cow patties out of the crap they listen to today, this from an old Nebraska cowboy.

  • @pjz037 Nice to hear there are some real Country Music fans out there! Johnny Paycheck, Waylon, Willie, Conway, Cash, and so many more....

  • @pjz037 Amen

  • @pjz037 Marty was from Glendale, AZ.

  • This man is a true legend, thanks to him and his kind showing the world the best music, love you, Janette ox

  • RIP Grandpa

  • Great song.

  • my dad used to put this song on the record player when i was really young and sing along i wouldnt go to bed unless i heard this song good memories

  • Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads are the best. I love them.

  • Love Marty's music, timeless, brilliant

  • This is a very, very beautiful song. Written at a time when Americans were still a very good people.

  • My dad died when I was 6 years old. One of my few memories was of him singing this song. Love and miss you every day xxxxxxxxxxx

  • @MsButterflyuk MsButterfly, Mine passed when I was 16. The memories do fade to a point, but him singing this song to me when putting me to sleep remains strong and true. (along with Eddy Arnold's Cattle Call which I posted a video of on here) When I tell friends about him singing "Streets" to me, they always look at me funny and say "Didn't a guy die in that song?" LOL We miss our Dads, they know it. I believe that!

  • mrtaterman,i know how you feel

  • I...I'm a man...but...this song, makes me...*cry's like a baby*

  • Check out the Fureys version of this song The Green Fields Of France and tell my you dont shed a tear by the end.

  • There has never been an equal to Marty Robbins. He has to be the best country singer of all time! He has a voice like comfort food, soothing and comfortable and very easy to listen to.

  • @lyddie12

He was my late Irish mothers' favorite singer..we used to hear his "Greatest Hits" EVERY SAT.AND SUNDAY for years..like clockwork..

  • You give me hope that there are people just like me, who enjoy the beautiful ballards of Marity Robbins and all the rest of the great singers...I love these songs..

  • It is refreshing to read the comments and see young folks enjoying this music.... there is none better... why Roadhouse on Serius is so great.... Old is great...and should be savored...like a fine wine

  • i have liked country music as long as i can remember and i have loved my country as well i served with the 101 st airborne in vietnam and have seen men killed by rockets mortars and gunfire but the crulest thing i ever saw was not done in the heat of battle or by an enamy trying to take a life but by two doctors working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please see [msbones ]1950 a waiting grave

  • we had to sing this in music no one sung so the teacher played it 10 times

  • @Eochaid1297 You are very correct. The tune to this song is of Irish origin & named "The Bard of Armaugh". The immigrants who settled this country brought with them a version called "The Unfortunate Rake". When the Cowboy words were added, it was first entitled, "The Cowboy's Lament". Lots, & lots of our American folkies are of Scot & Irish origin. Great stuff.

  • marty on the 8 track cassette classic

  • Grew up listening to MARTY , what great western music.

  • @1niftyjay SO true! I'm proud of my Scottish heritage, and I'm actually living in Edinburgh right now. Growing up I heard this song come on the stereo right after Scotland the Brave many times. Coincidence? I think not. Besides, most of the cowboys were 1st - 3rd generation Scottish or Irish immigrants.

  • Born in 92 but I must say I'm a huge fan of 50's and 60's country. I appreciate the fact you can actually understand the lyrics unlike most modern songs. Also the fact that these songs had great visualization, and meaning. Truly works of art from my prospective.

  • this is true music, unlike what we got today. these folks singed what they wanted, they were the artists.

now those who sing, barely called artists sing and yell at microphones whatever producers command based on "demand" and "market". now the "artists" are def and blind, searching only a target..........client satisfaction....well, my friends, an artist should be genuine, otherwise he's something else, like a pretender.

this guy did not sing this song cause the producer told him so.

  • @vrcraft this is where the artist actually had talent, now computers make them good they can change their voice, blah blah blah they have no talent, no digital producing here! just great artists

  • @thamilehighguy Dude, really? I mean, Bieber is a good kid, but, I'm sick of it when people post about him. What I'm trying to say is, you come here to hear a great song, not to post about Justin Bieber. Even if you are supporting/ragging on the poor kid, do it on HIS OWN FREAKING VIDEOS!

  • I want this song played at my funerel. ^.~

  • Love this song and Marty Robbins. My father use to sing this song all the time.

  • @oooSierra My dad would sing us to sleep playing this song... what great memories from back then (50s)

  • My lovely mum used to sing this, when i was a small child, she had a lovely voice with her Irish lilt adding to the emotion in the song. God bless you mum xx

  • not my favorite of his songs but a 1000 times better than the crap today

  • I did a version of this song, check it out. Enjoy! and subscribe! Such a beautiful tune, thanks for the upload!.

  • youre a hoot, thats what you are

  • I teach this and other songs in courses on American folklore in the States and now overseas as a U.S. Fulbright professor in the Slovak Republic -- lots of young people like you love them -- check out my Google website, "Prof Giarelli"

  • @8888skysong im with ya bro... im born one year after you and i love this music to my freind... Your no alone!

  • Thank you. lot's of memories.

  • i can just drink some tequila and smoke a cigar and listen to Marty Robbins all day

  • marty robbins, johnny horton, jim reeves, i can do on forever. music now doesnt even come close to this era. and this coming from a 21 year old. i was born in the wrong era. the era of internet start like justin fucking beiber. music would not be what it is today with all these people.

  • @mrtaterman I agree 100%, and im 15, i cant stand rap, techno, hip hop, or any of that "music"

  • @mrtaterman I agree, much of todays music is without talent or depth...however, there are good artists one just has to look a little harder to find them. I find much of the music I enjoy is european metal, old country, old rock, gothic metal, and soft mood type music, but all of it has one thing in common, it all has something of importance to say. I don't care at all what someone looks like when they sing music, only that they are talented and have something of importance to say.

  • @mrtaterman I was born in 1963 and I feel the same about modern country music. The oldies like the mountains will last forever.

  • @PatriotTexas i do not like modern country, its the same as the rest of the music nowadays.

  • @mrtaterman Era of the internet also lets you instantly access any song you want. Just be glad that you don't have to find it on records in rare antique stores. :)

  • @ColtonOweekly i got more records than i know what to do with them! lol

  • @mrtaterman Haha, well, then consider yourself lucky! :P Old songs are hard to find records of.

  • @ColtonOweekly i plan on keepin em for a long time to show my kids someday records. lol these are antiques for me i cant imagine what they will think of them.

  • @mrtaterman Music today has nothing to do with classics like this

  • @gnarlyTHRASHER yes, but without these classics music wouldnt be the same as it is now

  • @mrtaterman You're taking the best of an era and comparing it to the worst of an era. What did you expect to find by doing this?

  • @4DPerformance i did not expect to find anything, because its already known.

  • @mrtaterman Nothing is ever already known. Comparing gold to dross gives you no information at all except "good music is better than bad music". Compare good country of now to good country of then, and tell me that good country isn't being made. Some modern albums I think you should check out are "What I Really Mean", "Soul Gravy" and "Losin' Lately Gambler". If you look for horrible music you'll find horrible music. Please put the effort in to find the people before writing them off.

  • @4DPerformance well.. opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

  • @mrtaterman Fair point!

  • @mrtaterman

I agree. Sometimes the truth must be spoken harshly, to be driven home.

  • @mrtaterman those are just not your music.

everyone is different. you're just the one that use yourself as a center of everything.

think everything you are is the best.

like a racist just not against the races but the genre of music instead.

  • @08752285xx hell i knew that already i said it in my comment, fuck the new shit. so if that makes me racist kid, so be it.

opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and if thats your opinion, awesome

  • @mrtaterman good for you. not many ppl accept what they are like you.

I just have a habit to go against everyone I encounter.

    I'm such an ass, right?

I do hope that these music are more popular these day.

and i apologize compare your opinions with racist I didn't think at the time.

  • @08752285xx I hope you arent trying to say rap is good?

  • @vanillastien Maybe. Maybe not.

depend on your point of view.

No matter how the words are everyone only think the way they want it to be.

  • @08752285xx It is a fact.... today's so called country music is no more than garbage, the females are more interested in shaking and showing their asses... the videos of no related incidents just to sell the disc.... it is pathetic. There are no more Matyys, Hanks, Merles. etc.... there never will be, As far as Rap... the most putried crap to be called music, which it isn't.... but that what this country has come to!

  • @anjelina1940 I don't see that country become garbage.

    neither those rap nor anything.

pretty sure that in the era of country there are ppl who think of country just like what you think of rap.

take heart and there will be less argument or even much happier ppl live together.

PS.I don't even know all the names you mention.

But I may know the songs.

  • @08752285xx Your comment is a perfect example of my point... you don't know who I was talking about, yet you say that you don't think new so called country isn't garbage.... You must have the ability, in heart, in mind and intellectually to judge, appreciate, and render an opinion based on those factors.... today people, and I am certain you are one, do not have those characteristics.... times have changed but that doesn't make garbage acceptable, except to those I have mentioned.

  • @mrtaterman thank the internet for bringin it to you :)

  • @mrtaterman good sir, I do believe you are right, i was raised on this music, I am 31 and this music, is so much better than todays country :) My sons are like you, they love this too. Keep this music going , teach it to the children below us :) These awesome singers deserve respect because they knew real music.

  • @cutie12980 music was made by hours of practice and the calluses on your fingers from pickin so much, not how good you can use a computer.

  • Marty Robbins had a unique voice

  • i could listen to marty robbins all day and never tire of him he has that kind of effect on people he was just a realy great singer and story teller i just love country music

  • I WANT TO THANK AN OL'E COWBOY AT HEART "BILL BOCOOK" OF 5 MILE IN PROCTORVILLLE OHIO. WHO WITHOUT HIM I WOULD NEVER HEARD OF MARTY ROBBINS OR LEARNED IMPORTAINT LESONS OF LIFE. • What a heart-rending rendition of this sad ballad by Marty Robbins. And what a great singer of songs he was.

  • What did I say wrong for you to delete my comment ?

  • i learned about Marty Robbins from Fallout New Vegas and i am very glad i did because without that game i would never know this magnificint man

  • I'm only 15 and i have my grandparents to thank for introducing me to this great singer.

  • Marty sang a request for his Radio Themesong 'Driftwood on the River' on his Tuesday night TV show in Phoenix, where I was stationed in the USAF in 1952... He has been around for a long time.. and I guess so have I...

  • If you get the chance have a listen to the live voice of Dave Lennard - great new live performer!! thanks

  • Awesome video, and this song was the song my Dad sang to us on all of our family vacations (5 girls and Mom makes 6). My Dad, Marvin, is gone, but I treasure every memory I have with him, and Marty was his favorite. Thanks.

  • Sang this for High School Choir.

  • just got to say they dont record songs of this quality anymore. Soon all the great country and western singers will be gone and no one can take there place

  • Had the pleasure of seeing Marty live at wembley arena 1981, so sad when he died shortly after, still love his music.

  • Reminds me of Liverpool..that place is like an English Nashville..they love their C&W thx 4 posting ANT great xx Glenda-Marie

  • Hah i live in laredo and i love this song :)

  • I grew up listening to these songs.... my sister's husband listened to them ever so often........I'll forever love them

  • My dad used to sing this to me as a lullaby. I've been gone from home for almost 5 months now and I'll be back in March. Even though I'll be 21 I'll want him to sing it for me one night when I get back.

  • it should be against the law for anyone under 40 to perform country music nowadays, unless they're really from the country. One of the best voices ever for American music, Marty Robbins...

  • Lots of us like this kind of music! We ought to band together, donate some money, and get our own radio station, which will play all these great songs all the time! Music changes our country.

  • I was fortunate enough to see Marty Robbins perform at the Grand Ole Opry. He was by far the best singer, performer I have ever seen. He was the last to perform that night and refused to leave the stage at the end of the set, because the audience wanted him to stay! He was magnificent! I morned his loss, but am so happy to have his music to continue enjoying over and over.

  • marty robbins is a fucking legg i dont care what anyone says :j

  • @crayzeesteve In your kind of terminology , if you don't appreciate listening to him , because you're too fucking stupid to understand good music, then, turn off you're fucking listening device asshole.

  • More of this country, not that shit where their all like "SHE THINKZ MAH TRAKTURS SECKSY!!!!11!" god I wish I could have lived back when this music was relevent

  • Excellent!! Thank you for sharing it!! I appreciate it!!!---Lee

  • Has any male C & W singer ever had a better voice than Marty Robbins?

Johnny Cash's was unique and distinctive but Robbins is the vocal equivalent of a Stradivarius.

  • @vince33x Well, Marty did have a great voice, but Roy Orbison had some great pipes too!

  • @calliegal235 You'll get no argument from me...they were both great entertainers & musicians!

  • One of the truly great country singers. In the same class as Jones, Jennings, Haggard, and just a few others. You can always sing along with his songs.

  • i can listen to his music over and over and over again for hours. my family use to listen to his music in the truck or when we would go on cattle drives. we had to sell the cows and lost the CD

  • Comment removed

  • the first version i heard is in "Fallout new Vegas" but serching for the lyrics i knew this is the original version. it tale a easy but touching story and is sung with great emotions. Old western songs were so "deep" and full of feelings... i like it!

  • Great sssinger and outstanding pace on this and all of his songs. This was an old Irish lament "Bang the drum slowly and play the pipes lowley"

  • Oh Marty RIP you left us to early 57 yrs old. This is so wonderful. An old Irish song that Marty has done so well. It was changed to a cowboy song that works so well. Jim, Ph.D.

  • sung by one of the BEST!!!

  • The musicality, the story, the lyrics, the delivery...I could join the "young cowboy" with such an accomplishment to celebrate my life. Of course, Marty Robbins had so many.

  • one of the best singers of all time....smooth man

  • Laredo is a very hot place, especially in the USA Truck Depot.

  • @WeddingHorses hell yeah its hot its winter yet we can still ware shorts

  • Beautiful song, always makes me cry and long for at the same time. Marty, BEAUTIFUL VOICE, in which I cry and long for at the same time, again.

  • i listened to this with my dad years ago. it still chokes me up 40 years later.

  • Thank you for this video and song.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • You can download the audio-mp3 of this vid at getyourmp3s doht cohm.

  • The Man was incomparable! Never another like him! What a pleasure to have his recordings!

  • Just about one of the most beautiful singing voices ever!

  • Marty Robbins= best person.. ever?

  • i grew up listening to Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, and Johnny horton my favorite singer is Johnny Cash but this song is best sung by Marty Robbins he was a great singer

  • Marty Robbins is legit.

  • Born in 1996, and will forever love my dad for introducing me to Marty Robbins. Sadly, no one my age appreciates my taste in music

  • @8888skysong Born in 81 and the old man used to play him all day on Sundays. I used to hate it - it's only as I got older I started to appreciate this music. Top notch.

  • @8888skysong It's their loss.

  • @8888skysong You haven't met them yet. But you will. And in growing numbers. Focus on the music.

  • @8888skysong Same here - dad introduced me to Marty back in the 60's. Pure golden throated singer. Both will be missed.

  • @8888skysong wrong

  • @8888skysong Well, I do!

  • @8888skysong I am 15 and love Marty Robbins. My family makes fun of me cause I like a lot of old music.

  • @Gresh431 I'm in the same boat my friend, and I don't care, the music is too good :P
