You can keep the top on the pineapple and trim it so it looks like a thick lollypop stick and eat it with your hand. Don't cut off the top completely.

@naploma01 my wife has a similar problem and what we do to remedy that is after we cut the pineapple into slices I will soak them in ice water and what that will do is counter act the enzymes in pineapple and help it it be more enjoyable :) doesn't work all the sorry, but a big help none the less.

Color does not determine ripeness. Per Dole in Hawaii, ripeness is reached when the eyes are of uniform size throughout. It should also have a very strong pineapple smell. If it has a strong pineapple smell then it is probably over ripe.

Also. It doesn't take this much effort to cut a pineapple. The quickest way would be to quarter it like you did in the end and then cut the skin away from the meat with a curved knife (made for cutting pineapple). Not as pretty but way less work.

make sure you soak it in salted water for like 10-30mins at least

(i dont know how, but i it really helps to reduce the dmg to your tongue and adds slightly more flavor to the pineapple)
