Toyota was gaining huge in the market place so they started building cars here in north america and guess what happend, lack of quality products outsorced to north america possibly. I actually have a mechanical engineering ticket yet i work on a service rig in the oil patch because it pays twice what i can make in an office or doing non destructive testing. its not that toyota is the only one having recalls, its that they are the only company with the balls to say we fucked up and the courtesy to let the customer know. and with the gas pedal thing, its the north american made CTS pedals that are the problem, not the japanese made DENSO pedals!

I can agree with most of this paragraph. But I feel the quality problems extend from one of the most rapid explosions in any car manufactorers growth in modern times. Growing pains, as I call it. Resources were spread too thin, and this is what happened. Take a look at the Highlander and every vehicle that was released to the market after that, as those vehicles were part of an internal q.a. program put in place a year or two ago to mount the growing quality problems at Toyota.
There is a C&D article about it, or maybe it was MotorTrend, but quality issues are something Toyota blatantly admitted to long before these recalls started happening. They took proactive steps, but obviously, it was too late for the vehicles already designed and manufactured. The new 4Runner is a prime example of a high quality Toyota product, built in Japan to this day, to maintain the quality and durability associated with the 4Runner namesake. My 97 has 225k, all original, even the clutch
look, you seem pretty down to earth compared to some of the morons on here, so I'll level with ya. yes, OLD toyotas were very reliable, but honestly my man, 225k isnt impressive. I had a ford bronco with 345k on the original motor, still ran like a clock when i traded it in. any car can last. toyota is no better than ford if you take care of them the same way. and in response to pjlaw88, EVERY SINGLE DENSO pedal is recalled, it is NOT optional to the customer, every pedal gets modified
Roushed, I really appreciate you realizing this :D. With that said, as far as new cars go, I pretty much agree with you. The old school yotas are where its at. I know personally of ~10 22REs with 300k+, and its not uncommon to hear of 400-500k 22RE's and all they did was the timing chain. I will tell you one thing, my 03 Camry is not built to the quality of my 89 Pickup... And since we see about as close to eye to eye as we ever will, I will stop arguing haha. i work at Toyota too you fuckin retard, thats how i know that shit. your dumb, denso pedals aren't built the same, therefire you cant put the shim in them, so they aren't recalled, unless you mean cutting the pedal shorter which is optional to the customer.
if you work at toyota, (and arent some express lube bitch trying to act like a real tech), then you should know that the japanese made camry's aka the denso pedals, have thinner carpets than the ones with CTS pedals, therefore carpets are having to be replaced due to the fibers being ripped out when the tibia pad is removed. that should put in perspective the "quality" of a toyota. I've ripped one myself, and i cant even fix it, cuz carpets are on inter-galactic backorder since its so common
we must be workin on different toyotas or somethin man, we were told the denso pedals are fine, we have to put shims in the CTS ones. the only other recall we are doing in relation to the gas pedal is where you have to cut the pedal arm shorter so it cant get caught on mats when people pile them in, and its optional to the customer. i've never heard of the carpet fibers one, but either way its useless arguing with each other on youtube, it just makes us both look like idiots.
no no no, my bad pjlaw88, yes, the shims on the CTS pedals is correct (and since HONDA12345678 doesnt think im a real tech, the shims range from 1.8mm, up to 2.9. can't remember, I've only really had to use the 2.3 E's and 2.9 F's correct me if im wrong, lol) the denso pedals JUST have to be cut, that is right. and the carpet thing is not a recall, what happens is the carpet gets torn from ripping the tibia pad off, u know what that is right? it only happens on the denso ones. cheesy carpets

Yea your right about the pedals, and i onl;y heard about the carpets ripping late last week. and yea its not a separate recall, just rippin the pad off, which fuckin sucks lol we just heat them up. i think its 1.6a 1.8b 2.0c 2.3d 2.6e and 2.9f, either way you and I are on the same page now
the ones i kno by heart are 2.0D, 2.3E, and 2.6F, and 2.9G. u were a little off with the letters, no biggie, lol. but yeah, i love these recalls, they're paying for my new motorcycle : )
yea i just checked today and i missed the 1.4a, so it goes to 2.9g, i have never used one smaller than 1.8 tho. i'm paid hourly, so it doesn't affect me really,, but you get .7 and you can do them in .3 +/- .1 or so so it makes me look good. we are a small dealership too (in atlantic canada no less) so we are makin a big dent in them. still only 40hrs a week too.
My point being with the recall after 20 years, I cannot tell you the last time Chevy, Ford, or Dodge have ever recalled a vehicle to fix something after that long of a time has passed. In fact, I don't know any manufacturer to do something like that.

When's the last time Ford offered a solution like recalling vehicles for AMERICAN BUILT FRAMES (as the Tacoma frames were) and bought them back at 1.5 times the KBB value of excellent condition? When's the last time Chevy gave a shit about a bad drive shaft? How about that new power steering recall Chevy is having? How about the massive relay rod recall on 20+ year old trucks? Not saying Toyota is perfect, but they are trying to fix it. That, my friend, makes a lot of difference.

I've installed a trd supercharger on an 08 tundra, (which cost the guy over $8,000 compared to mine which only cost me $5,000) and yes it does produce over 500 horsepower.....AT THE CRANK. MY truck hass 427 hp AT THE WHEELS. big difference. like I said, I dont even like chevy's i just respect them. and ask anybody, if u drive normal, a supercharger increases efficiency. I've gotten over 21 hwy with mine.
you can find the engine code on the internet, or just look under the hood of one, its right on the vacuum routing diagram label. but yes, the new tacos blow, the pathetic torque they have is due to low gearing. and honestly, not saying urs are bad, but the only good thing about the old tacomas and 4runners is the engine/trans. the bodys and frames rot, and they are very cheesily built. I've done 12 frame replacements, I would know. Im just not a fan, Im american, I like american trucks.
the old pickups were different. my 3rd gen pickups are pretty sweet. The 22RE won't ever die, they are easy to work on, rarely need work, and if you keep up with it, they don't rust too bad. Both of my 3rd gen trucks are completely rust free. They go anywhere offroad haha. The Tacoma will never be what the PIckup was.
Dunno the newer Tacomas near as well, but if its a V6, then its a 1GR-FE. And since its supercharged, you could correctly call it a 1GR-FZE. I didn't bother really getting into the new Tacomas, as in my opinion, they are a shadow of the original Toyota Pickups and the 1st gen Tacoma. They are too bloated, too yuppy, and of a lower quality from what I've read on the interwebz. I do know about everything there is to know about 1-3 gen 4Runners and 2-3 Gen Pickups (owned 4 so far lol).
Im a technician form toyota, so remember that before u start shit talking. but in all honesty, these trucks do run forever, the engines, not the frame and body I mean.

These trucks are pretty respectable accelerating for what it gots, I own one. Other then that, its no racecar, but handles nicely for a truck and better then some cars, really. That being said, still a slow turd overall even with a supercharger.
for a heavy 4wd offroading SUV, its pretty impressive. MInd you, this thing has 33" tires (the vid did say 285's, right?) with the gearing for a 29ish" tire and a slow shifting 4 speed auto... Not to mention, it's only a 3.4L V6 and nearly a 5000lb vehicle... Trust me, I own one, and compared to stock form, its fast!
wow for somebody that owns one, u seem to know jack shit about them. the 2005+ tacomas have 4.0 v-6 engines. stock they have about 235 HP. for a big v-6, that aint much. and the only reason these trucks move as quick as they do is cuz they're geared low. other than that, they're pretty much useless as a truck, good for those yuppy, starbucks sipping queers that haul they're bikes and mountain climbing gear up to the rockies on the weekends.

I know a sickening amount of information about Toyota 4x4's of all kinds, their engine and transmission codes, gear ratios, quirks, etc etc. The title of the video says TRD supercharger and the info says TRD supercharger, nothing more. I simply mistook it for an older Tacoma D-Cab auto, as this video came up when I searched 3.4 supercharger.... I own 4 Toyotas and I beat the crap out of lol. No yuppy...

(327 CI) they also have a 4.8, and a 6.0. and no, that is not a ricer and I actually hate firebirds, I honestly am not even a fan of GM, but I give respect where respect is due. just cuz a car has an ugly wing or bodykit doesnt make it a ricer. btw, the 5.3 is honestly completlely different than the 5.7. the only similiarity is the fact that its a pushrod motor. I honeslty could care less about gas mileage. I love my truck to death and it get 15 m.p.g (its a 5.4 V-8, I get around 19 highway) which is better than these 4.0 tacomas, and with the roush charger it has 426 hp to the wheels. this is what I say to allllll import lovers....you go ahead and get your economy car... all the more gas for me
oh yeah, and incase you want proof, theres another guy on here that has a roush supercharged F-150 like mine, and like me, he has beaten every TRD supercharged tundra he's raced, his name is FX4Matt, just type in his name, you'll find his videos. The TRD superchargers suck, especially the tune they come with. ROUSH is much more efficient, and cheaper. BTW, every dude in my dealership laughs at you queers that actually paid money to buy such an ugly, gay looking "truck". enjoy

I can agree with most of this paragraph. But I feel the quality problems extend from one of the most rapid explosions in any car manufactorers growth in modern times. Growing pains, as I call it. Resources were spread too thin, and this is what happened. Take a look at the Highlander and every vehicle that was released to the market after that, as those vehicles were part of an internal q.a. program put in place a year or two ago to mount the growing quality problems at Toyota.

There is a C&D article about it, or maybe it was MotorTrend, but quality issues are something Toyota blatantly admitted to long before these recalls started happening. They took proactive steps, but obviously, it was too late for the vehicles already designed and manufactured. The new 4Runner is a prime example of a high quality Toyota product, built in Japan to this day, to maintain the quality and durability associated with the 4Runner namesake. My 97 has 225k, all original, even the clutch

I had a ford bronco with 345k on the original motor, still ran like a clock when i traded it in. any car can last. toyota is no better than ford if you take care of them the same way. and in response to pjlaw88, EVERY SINGLE DENSO pedal is recalled, it is NOT optional to the customer, every pedal gets modified

I know personally of ~10 22REs with 300k+, and its not uncommon to hear of 400-500k 22RE's and all they did was the timing chain. I will tell you one thing, my 03 Camry is not built to the quality of my 89 Pickup... And since we see about as close to eye to eye as we ever will, I will stop arguing haha. if you work at toyota, (and arent some express lube bitch trying to act like a real tech), then you should know that the japanese made camry's aka the denso pedals, have thinner carpets than the ones with CTS pedals, therefore carpets are having to be replaced due to the fibers being ripped out when the tibia pad is removed. that should put in perspective the "quality" of a toyota. I've ripped one myself, and i cant even fix it, cuz carpets are on inter-galactic backorder since its so common

we must be workin on different toyotas or somethin man, we were told the denso pedals are fine, we have to put shims in the CTS ones. the only other recall we are doing in relation to the gas pedal is where you have to cut the pedal arm shorter so it cant get caught on mats when people pile them in, and its optional to the customer. i've never heard of the carpet fibers one, but either way its useless arguing with each other on youtube, it just makes us both look like idiots.

no no no, my bad pjlaw88, yes, the shims on the CTS pedals is correct (and since HONDA12345678 doesnt think im a real tech, the shims range from 1.8mm, up to 2.9. can't remember, I've only really had to use the 2.3 E's and 2.9 F's correct me if im wrong, lol) the denso pedals JUST have to be cut, that is right. and the carpet thing is not a recall, what happens is the carpet gets torn from ripping the tibia pad off, u know what that is right? it only happens on the denso ones. cheesy carpets

yea i just checked today and i missed the 1.4a, so it goes to 2.9g, i have never used one smaller than 1.8 tho. i'm paid hourly, so it doesn't affect me really,, but you get .7 and you can do them in .3 +/- .1 or so so it makes me look good. we are a small dealership too (in atlantic canada no less) so we are makin a big dent in them. still only 40hrs a week too.

When's the last time Ford offered a solution like recalling vehicles for AMERICAN BUILT FRAMES (as the Tacoma frames were) and bought them back at 1.5 times the KBB value of excellent condition? When's the last time Chevy gave a shit about a bad drive shaft? How about that new power steering recall Chevy is having? How about the massive relay rod recall on 20+ year old trucks? Not saying Toyota is perfect, but they are trying to fix it. That, my friend, makes a lot of difference.

I've installed a trd supercharger on an 08 tundra, (which cost the guy over $8,000 compared to mine which only cost me $5,000) and yes it does produce over 500 horsepower.....AT THE CRANK. MY truck hass 427 hp AT THE WHEELS. big difference. like I said, I dont even like chevy's i just respect them. and ask anybody, if u drive normal, a supercharger increases efficiency. I've gotten over 21 hwy with mine.

you can find the engine code on the internet, or just look under the hood of one, its right on the vacuum routing diagram label. but yes, the new tacos blow, the pathetic torque they have is due to low gearing. and honestly, not saying urs are bad, but the only good thing about the old tacomas and 4runners is the engine/trans. the bodys and frames rot, and they are very cheesily built. I've done 12 frame replacements, I would know. Im just not a fan, Im american, I like american trucks.

the old pickups were different. my 3rd gen pickups are pretty sweet. The 22RE won't ever die, they are easy to work on, rarely need work, and if you keep up with it, they don't rust too bad. Both of my 3rd gen trucks are completely rust free. They go anywhere offroad haha. The Tacoma will never be what the PIckup was.

Dunno the newer Tacomas near as well, but if its a V6, then its a 1GR-FE. And since its supercharged, you could correctly call it a 1GR-FZE. I didn't bother really getting into the new Tacomas, as in my opinion, they are a shadow of the original Toyota Pickups and the 1st gen Tacoma. They are too bloated, too yuppy, and of a lower quality from what I've read on the interwebz. I do know about everything there is to know about 1-3 gen 4Runners and 2-3 Gen Pickups (owned 4 so far lol).

for a heavy 4wd offroading SUV, its pretty impressive. MInd you, this thing has 33" tires (the vid did say 285's, right?) with the gearing for a 29ish" tire and a slow shifting 4 speed auto... Not to mention, it's only a 3.4L V6 and nearly a 5000lb vehicle... Trust me, I own one, and compared to stock form, its fast!

wow for somebody that owns one, u seem to know jack shit about them. the 2005+ tacomas have 4.0 v-6 engines. stock they have about 235 HP. for a big v-6, that aint much. and the only reason these trucks move as quick as they do is cuz they're geared low. other than that, they're pretty much useless as a truck, good for those yuppy, starbucks sipping queers that haul they're bikes and mountain climbing gear up to the rockies on the weekends.

Hey man, that was pretty harsh... I simply mistook this truck for an older Tacoma... I know a sickening amount of information about Toyota 4x4's of all kinds, their engine and transmission codes, gear ratios, quirks, etc etc. The title of the video says TRD supercharger and the info says TRD supercharger, nothing more. I simply mistook it for an older Tacoma D-Cab auto, as this video came up when I searched 3.4 supercharger.... I own 4 Toyotas and I beat the crap out of lol. No yuppy...

not really, my 08 has a 6" lift soon to have 35's, i haul shit, tow shit and 4wheel it often. i'd say thats what a truck is supposed to do so it's not really "useless"

who's an idiot? you? thats right, you are. guess what moron, Im a TECHNICIAN for toyota, and I previously was one for mercedes, and FORD, each for about 5 years. I went to yota cuz they offered me more money. and as for yotas being better quality, I can tell you from day to day experience that FORD is far better than toyota. toyota cant even build an engine that doesnt burn a quart of oil in more than 600 miles anymore, they suck. and last I looked, the fusion outsold the camry in 2008

ur a fuckin tool man, seriously, are you reading what u type? did you really just compare a camry's looks to an S-10? if you had any mechanical knowledge, or a sack between ur legs, u'd know that S-10's are one of the most popular project trucks ever made. and the underpowered 350??? hmm pretty sure the last year chevy put a 5.7 in a chevy it could put out 370 HP. and I think the 97 firebird had that motor, but I guess u know more.

Yes i have worked on/driven fast cars..but never raced them.
And i think prius's are the biggest waste of money ever.

dude, they DID change to a different engine completely, its a 5.3 litre. (327 CI) they also have a 4.8, and a 6.0. and no, that is not a ricer and I actually hate firebirds, I honestly am not even a fan of GM, but I give respect where respect is due. just cuz a car has an ugly wing or bodykit doesnt make it a ricer. Im american and I support my country, if you had any imagination or knowledge of cars, you would understand y i feel so strongly about domestics. chevy and ford are pioneers

btw, the 5.3 is honestly completlely different than the 5.7. the only similiarity is the fact that its a pushrod motor. I honeslty could care less about gas mileage. I love my truck to death and it get 15 m.p.g (its a 5.4 V-8, I get around 19 highway) which is better than these 4.0 tacomas, and with the roush charger it has 426 hp to the wheels. this is what I say to allllll import lovers....you go ahead and get your economy car... all the more gas for me

No actually,it does not get better gas mileage than these tacomas..I constantly get 18 city/22 highway in my 08 tacoma.
And No you do not get 15 city with a supercharger...Maybe 9 at the most..Your just a lying chevrolet fanboy..
Oh and the new tundras have over 500 + horsepower with the TRD superchargers :-).So your chevy has nothing on that.

oh yeah, and incase you want proof, theres another guy on here that has a roush supercharged F-150 like mine, and like me, he has beaten every TRD supercharged tundra he's raced, his name is FX4Matt, just type in his name, you'll find his videos. The TRD superchargers suck, especially the tune they come with. ROUSH is much more efficient, and cheaper. BTW, every dude in my dealership laughs at you queers that actually paid money to buy such an ugly, gay looking "truck". enjoy

another way you just made urself sound retarded, is saying put a roush on a tundra. hmmmm lets see, Im pretty sure ROUSH does pretty much nothing but fords, so yeah that wont work. the specs are there, the tundra has around 505 hp at the crank, MINE has around 530. and no, the s/c'd tundra's do not dip into the 4's, low 5's yes, never 4's. sedriously dude, ur not gonna win, ur a FAG, stop tryin to argue and act like you know everyting about yotas just cuz u own a queer tacoma. Did you have a dealership install the supercharger (i.e., how was the ECU re-flashed)?

The ECU must be re-flashed after the supercharger install. This is done at the dealer regardless if you installed it, or if the dealer did.
