I will never forget seeing Ry and his band open for the Dead and Bruce Hornsby and the Range in Monterrey in 1987, was it? Unbelievable. And i remember the Dead and Bruce Hornsby and his band sitting on both sides of the stage during Ry's performance in awe of what they were hearing and seeing ... Whew!
Not only has this been one of my all-time favorites, but this version is righteous! Ry always puts the othrs in the spotlight and plays away in the back ground. But that fantastic guitar work shines through no matter what. I just wish Ry would tour around the good old US. Seeing Cooder live is near the top of my "bucket list." Thanks for this positng. So sweet.............
I was looking up old Ry Cooder material (he's in top 10 top guitarists now I recently read) and would not have believed it if I didn't see it- a favorite pickett song done as fine as ever by King and Cooder .
OH I THINK that black bag is a non gender specific fanny/belt bag that was the rage in late 80s as I recall. :)
I assume you're referring to the 2003 Rolling Stone list, on which Ry comes in at number 8.
Believe.
"Fanny" is very gender specific over here. We call them bum bags. But the way Bobby's wearing his it looks like something Ian Anderson might have sported circa 1974.
Keep 'em coming Iwe. That's Sam Cooke's,'That's Where It's At' in the second half. We travel thousands of miles just to see our irascible sweetheart when he plays.
I love these guys. They are singing/playing their heart and soul out! They can't be topped!

The connection between guitar and vocal on the "That's where it's at" part is out of this world. Awesome.
