It just seems like someone who says they're into rock singing an Usher song would be some kind of practical joke. You know, like you're making fun of the genre or something.
Oh not at all. Albiet I have more fun rocking out to Chavelle or something, doesn't mean I can't have a soft side for the sounds of David Usher. Everyone can atest, Usher has an amazing voice, and he knows how to use it.

I think that you should sing a different song, just because it sounds more like talking than singing. BUT, that said, I think you have a great voice and if you know how to use it, you would be awesome!
These days most mainstream male rock singers don't generally have high voices,the only exception that I could think of right now would be " Nic Cester" from Jet.
