A partir de ahí, su presencia en Copas del Mundo solo le sirvió para romper algunos records, ya que la selección alemana no logró sobresalir en ninguno de los 2 Mundiales que tuvieron a Matthäus en cancha.
Al disputar los certámenes organizados por Estados Unidos y Francia en 1994 y 1998 respectivamente, Lothar se convirtió en el jugador que más Mundiales ha jugado llegando a un total de 5, mientras que también pasó a ser el futbolista con más partidos disputados sumando 25 encuentros entre 1982 y 1998.

@TechNick90 Very similar in offensive qualities (good shooting and big courage to face the gol in second line), Matthäus was better in passing, vision, leadership and specially in his impressive deffensive game. In my opinion he wasn't so great as some of his fans think (he isn't Maradona, Cruyff or Beckenbauer), but with no doubt one of the best midfielders of modern football.

@kknb16 1. wrong, he won the UEFA-Cup 2 times, 1991 with Inter Milan and 1996 with Bayern Munich, 2. right, he left Bayern Munich 2000, they won the CL in 2001. Did I say he won the CL? *smile*
I never liked him really, but it's a fact, that he was one of the top players in the 80's and 90's world wide.

@TechNick90 Very similar in offensive qualities (good shooting and big courage to face the gol in second line), Matthäus was better in passing, vision, leadership and specially in his impressive deffensive game. In my opinion he wasn't so great as some of his fans think (he isn't Maradona, Cruyff or Beckenbauer), but with no doubt one of the best midfielders of modern football.

Man kann ja über ihn denken was man will. Aber als er früher auf dem Platz stand hatte man das gefühl da steht ein richtiger "Mann". Nicht eine dieser Medienhuren die es heut zu tage gibt, oder diese kleinlauten Möchtegern Profis ohne Herz denen jede Niederlage sowieso scheiss egal ist. Lothar gehört zu einer Generation von Spieler die es so viele Jahre nicht mehr geben wird.

Er muss ja nicht von allen gemocht werden, wie z.B. Seeler, Beckenbauer oder Völler. Trotzdem ist Lothar Matthäus eine Kultfigur des Fußballs, und einer der besten Spieler, die je einen Rasen betreten haben. Das muss jeder eingestehen und aktzeptieren.

@raidanknigge Not sure if that's true, but he's right up there at least. He was tougher than a $2 steak, wouldn't let anybody run him off the ball, broke up opponents' attacks, great free kicks, and a great leader. Indomitable!
