Yeah, but both were holding on for very long...22 years it kept it self together, under immense pain to protect the lives of the thousands of passengers it must have transported.

So I say Boeing defiantly got the awards for most stress-resistant plane-design for good reason for over 20 years in a row. Also Aloha Airlines Flight 243, is showing that.

@titanic5577 and they're filled with air; rubber also floats. Air filled rubber floats to outweigh the metal, and the salt water is also bouyant enough to keep it up. It's how other parts also float, even when you expect metal to sink.
