Hmm....I didn't know they detonated underground weapons in Alaska. I've seen that footage many times but didn't know the tests were conducted on an island in the state of Alaska.
you usually don't get to see the megaton tests as full, uninterrupted clips playing at regular speed. people always feel the need to time lapse nuclear bomb footage, but i want to see the fireball evolve in real time. thanks for this.
zomgz, Earths core is full of lava that is hot and can't go anywhere, global warming :O :O :O (lol... underground bombs causing global warming... hahaha)
Well this footage was not an underground bomb. Furthermore, the heat in the earths core was part of its design and it is compensted for by nature. When we start exploding these powerfull bombs it creates excess heat in the atmoshphere that throws of the natural balance. I know global warming is not the cause why they stopped having atmoshperic tests but you have to agree it can only make it worse if we still had nations testing weapons above the surface.
I never knew the U.S. carried out so many tests. Why did they have to carry on like that when the H bomb technology was perfected in the early 1950's?

A lot of it was "Saber-rattling". Also, they were trying out more efficient designs, and to understand the effects.
