I never got why Comedy Central did this thing with the MST Hour. It seemed very unessesary. At least it gave rise to one of Mike's alter egos lol.

For syndication. It was hoped that local channels with minimal schedules, like a FOX, UPN or WB affiliate, would pick up the show as an hour-long program (no one wanted a two-hour show on their schedule), and increase the exposure of the show beyond cable. It was fairly successful, and picked up by quite a few stations, but became a moot point when Comedy Central axed the series without warning.
