Firstly, I dislike the right wing as much as I do the left. K, so what should have happened here is goldberg should have asked Cenk, "did you read the book?", and given that Cenk didn't, Jonah should've hung up and left the interview/berrating.

Also, one thing about the book... sometimes books are given titles that they expect will sell the best. A sleazy thing to do, but I think Cenk shouldn't have handled it like that. Having said that, Goldberg was an even bigger prick and got all offended. What is it about righties and getting offended?

Also, help me with logic of giving food stamps is actually good. If that is so, we should give food stamps to everyone.
@satarnag Uh. . . I haven't watched the episode yet, but. . . giving food stamps is a good thing when people NEED food stamps. Problem isn't that we have systems in place to help people who've fallen on hard times, it's that people have the gall to take advantage of it.
For example; my neighbor was laid off of his job after 30 years as an auto mechanic. It's the only thing he knows how to do. Yet he can't get a job cause nobody is hiring.
@XeliosX I am not against food stamps. Just watch the video where they say that the return on a food stamp is 1.84. Apparently giving food stamps improves economy. If it is such a positive thing, then we all should have food stamps. Also, somehow giving people (whether rich or poor) tax cuts is a bad. Imagine keeping what you earn. How is that bad?
@satarnag Food stamps cost the government a lot of money, but is more stimulative to the economy. The argument isn't whether they're "bad" or "good", but whether they're worth the cost or not. Is the economic stimulation worth the cost? For food stamps, I think it's pretty obviously yes. But if we gave them out to everyone, the cost to the gov't would be too high and there'd probably be some kind of inflation involved too, though I don't know the details.
@BadLuck765 The food stamps given to people who don't need them would lower the average beneficial effect of that stimulus just as lowering taxes on the wealthy does.
@sushimoustache Possibly, though if people would use them to buy more food than they might normally, it'd still have a greater stimulative effect than just normal money. I think the only issue would then be the cost to the government. I'm not advocating either way, and I'm not an expert of course, but that's how I understand it. But you're right, the amount of economic stimulation would surely be less overall.
I can see why christians and muslims would be against yoga. Its not because yoga is some vague "eastern spiritual" practice, but a specific part of the Hindu religion "hatha yoga", which is one of the 5 different yogas practiced by Hindus.
So it makes sense why fundamentalist muslims and christians would be against it, especially muslims, who aren't really on friendly terms with the hindus.
@romanmir01 There's already an income tax, and guess what, its not 100%, and it'll never be that. You ask whats to stop it? well, taxes now are lower than since the income tax was started, so i guess that theory goes out the window doesn't it? The raising of taxes based on the higher income level is not taking policy to some new and foreign level if its already been like that before.
@snackynak Wait until the bond bubble bursts and USD is printed into hyper-inflation to buy back all bonds and then all credit disappears, all imports disappear and there are shortages of products into the country.
Spending to improve economy. Yes. Spending money you don't have by printing it and borrowing it and not producing anything improves the economy.
So millions of people who live on subsidies improve economy by spending money they didn't produce anything for. So somebody else gave them the money, something third made the products and these people 'improved economy' by spending money they didn't earn on items they didn't produce.
But there can be seen a strong link between (right-wing) conservatives and the National Socialist movement since the conservatives were far more afraid of liberal ideas and a more free society than of the establishment of a National Socialist system.
Another thing that a lot of people mix up, and it seems like Cenk does that too once in a while is that you always have to see the terms 'progressive' and 'conservative' in the context of the time. Progressive means that you want to change things, which today usually means, that you want to move a system that is quite far to the right to become more left. Conservative means that you want to preserve the current status. The National Socialist movement was certainly not conservative.
Concerning Christianity he's not totally wrong either - the Nazis had to handle the Christian Religion and in part go into coalitions with them, simply because a lot of Germans were Christian believers, but the core of National Socialist movement was anti-christian (not atheist) and made up their own religion and mythology. Hitler believed in "die Vorsehung" and the Arians were the chosen people.
Being totally liberal, or rather 'left', as you would call it in Europe, since I'm not liberal all the way in economic matters, I still get a little what Goldberg wants to say. For him the connection between Liberals and Nazis is that the Nazis and the Liberals both aim(ed) at getting a more equal society. What he doesn't take in consideration though is that the Nazis excluded big parts of the population, especially minorities, while Liberals worth all human beings the same. A huge difference!
...See How Bad the Jets are! , They Make You lose your mind and all of a Sudden you are taking Picture of your Penis and sending them out.... (Brett was fine for all those years in Green Bay!)...

At 19:30 Cenk goes into the multiplyer affect on food stamps, i don't disagree with the math but it kinda sounds like a trickle up theory if you think about it....
Using utilities as an example for government being bad for corporations by setting profit margins is a bad example. Power companies generally would have favorable view.
1) No competition complete monopoly 1A) No redundant power generation plants (from different companies) all but one of which are inactive= lower rates
2) Guaranteed profit ~steady income forever
3) Possibly influence government for higher rates (and thus higher steady profits)
You guys should consider doing something about the ads, Cenk. I mean, being a partner helps you guys promote your channel better and allows Youtubers to find you more easily, but for god sakes, do you REALLY need extra ad revenue?? Doesn't your station (Air America or whatever it is) that you're broadcasted on have enough money of its own to survive? And I'd assume that even a liberal talk show host with a smaller show makes a decent income, no?
Cenk, I lost a lot of respect for you after that phone interview. That was baiting and out of line. Let people walk into their own hypocrisies, don't push them into them.
Cenk, at the debate, for the first time I thought you were unreasonable. You should have given him more time to explain what his book was about instead of getting annoyed by the start. From the rest of the debate, he seemed like a reasonable guy.
Have to say - Cenk really butchered this "interview" with Jonah Goldberg. He definitely doesn't ask a single substantive question of this guy, and that is a shame. The entire 5+ min. interview is Cenk saying "your book is shit" and Jonah saying- "dude, you haven't read it".... :/
Pailn and that Christine woman are just talking heads. There not even that good at it. What they say is none sense. OMG both of them seem more stupid than my most redneck / dumbass relatives.
You cannot crossbreed a homo sapien with another species. Of course, O'Donnell doesn't understand biology. And if scientists had created mice with fully functioning human brains, that would ironically shatter any need for O'Donnell's god. Who needs God to create humans when we can literally recreate our own brains?
You might be able to successfully transfer specific genes (imagine people being able to glow in the dark like other bioluminescent animals... awesome).
Being atheist and liberal I am just stunned to find out I have been a fascist and communist this whole time D: Oh and conservatives were heavily involved with the nazis :P hell a lot of conservative views are against non white Americans.

I always like to quote Ulysses S Grant : For centuries England has relied on protection ..... After two centuries, England has found it convenient to adopt free trade because it thinks that protection can no longer offer it anything. Very well then, gentlemen, my knowledge of our country leads me to believe that within 200 years, when America has gotten out of protection all that it can offer, it too will adopt free trade."
I have read Goldberg's book. He connects in his book Nazi and liberals to vegetarianism... And when someone else (Cenk) does it through the rights of same sex couples that is absurd. And was America a free market economy?
To be fair though. I live in the UK, and there are also a lot of fat-asses here also. I know it's a complicated issue though. An issue not only based on food, but the repercussion of being bullied, insecurities, etc. Food is the outlet. The comfort we seek.
@Domzdream Even that is not the whole story. Our bodies strongly desire fats and sugars for good evolutionary reasons. The fast food companies take advantage of this desire to full effect, making it nearly impossible to resist for some people.
How or why do Americans rely on food stamps since there are so many fat-asses there? I mean, every time I turn on the telly, all I see is non-starving, fat Americans. It's quite contradictory, Isnt it?
@Domzdream many poor communities have little or no access to grocery stores, but are surrounded by the fast food crack cocaine. So yes, you CAN be poor and still scrounge together a dollar for a double cheeseburger.
@Domzdream Some people here just eat the wrong way and don't exercise. You don't need to insult anyone by calling them bad names, its just the way they live their lives...the wrong way IMO. I imagine people on food stamps just don't have enough money to feed their family, and need assistance, there's nothing wrong with that as long as they pay taxes.
@Domzdream Looks like your snarky hatred has already been answered, but to finish the point, most of those on food stamps do NOT manage to be hugely fat.
What a joke the govt is. They can pass bills that help banks and totally ignore the unemployed 99ers and their bill at the same time. Then go on multiple vacations and have the nerve to think we will vote for them? absurd way to run a country..... We need a KRAKEN to eat all them bastards...Cenk for President in 2012!!!
@BLUEC0RE nah, these people should stay at home all they and never do anything with other people ever again. having them outside of the house is kooky and spooky
Jonah Goldberg can hardly talk without tripping over his own tongue. H. G. Wells is one of the most important WHAT of the 20th century? No idea what he was saying. Whatever it was, if it was something other than "fantasy writers", he's wrong. So, he get's his book titles from fantasy.
36:10, Cenk beats Goldberg down like a redheaded stepchild.
Goldberg argues like a high school girl in the lunchroom arguing about Twilight.
I learned about the multiplier effect in high school, in economics class. I understood it even then at the age of 16. Newt Gingrich does not understand it today after 40+ years working for the government. He thinks it's a new liberal plot. Wonderful.
@scr4pp7 I agree that Cenk should have read the book before interviewing the Goldberg fool. But if you listen to Goldberg blither and babble I can kind of see why he didn't bother, if he knew what he was like in advance.
@jfrsnjhnsn yeah, but the guy walks in and says, "I assume you didn't read it," Okay well fuck you, I assume you're a moron. :D Not you, but the author. :) And Cenk was right 100% anyways.
@jfrsnjhnsn Goldberg is flat wrong when he says the Nazis weren't Christians. All you have to do is take the free domain version of Mein Kampf available at the Gutenberg Project and do a word search onf Christ, Christian, God, etc. He was a Christian. He also based his movement on the petty bourgeoisie cause they hate the working class as much as he did. He hated the working class cause they're not religious. Nazis peddled Positive Christianity.
@scr4pp7 Jonah basically insulted his audience before even coming on the show. His book is obvious pandering to the choir, it is not seeking to promote his position. There is nothing wrong with that. If you are going on a liberal talk show to try and push an insulting thesis like his, then of course he is going to meet some scorn. Cenk has done much more congenial interviews with conservatives in the past who had more of an agenda than simply poo pooing the "evil liberals".
Cenk it is a well known fact that puppies are evil and deserve inhumane treatment.

Cenk, I lost a lot of respect for you after that phone interview. That was baiting and out of line. Let people walk into their own hypocrisies, don't push them into them.
thorn9apc 1 year ago
Cenk, at the debate, for the first time I thought you were unreasonable. You should have given him more time to explain what his book was about instead of getting annoyed by the start. From the rest of the debate, he seemed like a reasonable guy.
tijnerkamp1 1 year ago
Have to say - Cenk really butchered this "interview" with Jonah Goldberg. He definitely doesn't ask a single substantive question of this guy, and that is a shame. The entire 5+ min. interview is Cenk saying "your book is shit" and Jonah saying- "dude, you haven't read it".... :/

You cannot crossbreed a homo sapien with another species. Of course, O'Donnell doesn't understand biology. And if scientists had created mice with fully functioning human brains, that would ironically shatter any need for O'Donnell's god. Who needs God to create humans when we can literally recreate our own brains?
You might be able to successfully transfer specific genes (imagine people being able to glow in the dark like other bioluminescent animals... awesome).
rafaravioli 1 year ago
Well, considering that O'Donnell only uses enough brain cells to equal a mouse brain, it probably makes sense to her.

Domzdream 1 year ago
@Domzdream Even that is not the whole story. Our bodies strongly desire fats and sugars for good evolutionary reasons. The fast food companies take advantage of this desire to full effect, making it nearly impossible to resist for some people.

How or why do Americans rely on food stamps since there are so many fat-asses there? I mean, every time I turn on the telly, all I see is non-starving, fat Americans. It's quite contradictory, Isnt it?
Someone educate me please.
Domzdream 1 year ago
@Domzdream many poor communities have little or no access to grocery stores, but are surrounded by the fast food crack cocaine. So yes, you CAN be poor and still scrounge together a dollar for a double cheeseburger.
asdfxcxv 1 year ago
@Domzdream Some people here just eat the wrong way and don't exercise. You don't need to insult anyone by calling them bad names, its just the way they live their lives...the wrong way IMO. I imagine people on food stamps just don't have enough money to feed their family, and need assistance, there's nothing wrong with that as long as they pay taxes.
marcusDsanders 1 year ago
@Domzdream Looks like your snarky hatred has already been answered, but to finish the point, most of those on food stamps do NOT manage to be hugely fat.
And the rest have a glandular condition ;D
aaronsande 1 year ago
@Domzdream Its because fatty foods are cheaper so the poor get more out of there food stamps.

Please Cenk, next time read the book. Then insult.
cordelamieE 1 year ago
I learned about the multiplier effect in high school, in economics class. I understood it even then at the age of 16. Newt Gingrich does not understand it today after 40+ years working for the government. He thinks it's a new liberal plot. Wonderful.
jfrsnjhnsn 1 year ago 3
Wow, that was a terrible interview with Goldberg. Is it custom in America to insult your guest before they even opened their mouth?
scr4pp7 1 year ago
@scr4pp7 I agree that Cenk should have read the book before interviewing the Goldberg fool. But if you listen to Goldberg blither and babble I can kind of see why he didn't bother, if he knew what he was like in advance.
jfrsnjhnsn 1 year ago 26
@jfrsnjhnsn yeah, but the guy walks in and says, "I assume you didn't read it," Okay well fuck you, I assume you're a moron. :D Not you, but the author. :) And Cenk was right 100% anyways.
NY1love 1 year ago
@jfrsnjhnsn Goldberg is flat wrong when he says the Nazis weren't Christians. All you have to do is take the free domain version of Mein Kampf available at the Gutenberg Project and do a word search onf Christ, Christian, God, etc. He was a Christian. He also based his movement on the petty bourgeoisie cause they hate the working class as much as he did. He hated the working class cause they're not religious. Nazis peddled Positive Christianity.
Does Goldberg ever research?
pirbird14 1 year ago
@scr4pp7 Jonah basically insulted his audience before even coming on the show. His book is obvious pandering to the choir, it is not seeking to promote his position. There is nothing wrong with that. If you are going on a liberal talk show to try and push an insulting thesis like his, then of course he is going to meet some scorn. Cenk has done much more congenial interviews with conservatives in the past who had more of an agenda than simply poo pooing the "evil liberals".
