What Obama did with his marketing strategy was no different from what Reagan did with his "Morning in America" ads back in the 80s. It was for this reason I did not vote in the 2008 elections. I think Mattera and the Young America's Foundation are pretty good examples of the young conservatives' movement I've seen on my campus. A huge part of their identity is rooted in an aggressive hatred toward liberal people, culture, and ideas. Hate toward anything they consider different from themselves.

In addition, that was said roughly half a century ago, when "conservative" and "liberal" had different meanings in the US than they do today. Finally, there is no documented evidence of Churchill ever having said that, and he probably wouldn't have, as he was a conservative in his 20s and a liberal in his 30s (in the British sense of the words).
Lets not get too specific with the quote. You are correct in that there is no proof that he said it, even though that quote is often attributed to him. AND it is attributed to him in the American version of liberal vs conservative terms. So I do agree with most of your response to what I wrote, but lets not take it TOO specifially. What Obama did with his marketing strategy was no different from what Reagan did with his "Morning in America" ads back in the 80s. It was for this reason I did not vote in the 2008 elections. Mccain was as shifty as they came, Palin was a demagogue rooted in the politics of hate and resentment, and Obama played people during the Democratic primaries like a harp from hell. I think Mattera and the Young America's Foundation are pretty good examples of the young conservatives' movement I've seen on my campus. A huge part of their identity is rooted in an aggressive hatred toward liberal people, culture, and ideas. Hate toward anything they consider different from themselves.

Progressives are diametrically opposed to our Constitution. It is an obstacle as written by our founders. They have been working on 'evolving' our country for over 100 years. Woodrow Wilson was a rabid progressive. You've heard of the "progressive income tax". Wilson gave us that, as well as the Federal Reserve and Prohibition. To understand the term "progressive" you have to understand there is an ultimate goal they are trying to get to. In short, the goal is Utopia: Marxism or Communism. Progressives believe that they can change the world through "social justice", "redistribution of wealth" and "fairness". Progressives are Liberals, they just changed their name. Progressives are "progressing" slowly toward this goal, as opposed to Communists and Socialists who have used violence to impose their ideology.

@shatwood Except that Churchill is from Great Britain, where the terms "conservative" and "liberal" are not the same as they are in the United States. In addition, that was said roughly half a century ago, when "conservative" and "liberal" had different meanings in the US than they do today. Finally, there is no documented evidence of Churchill ever having said that, and he probably wouldn't have, as he was a conservative in his 20s and a liberal in his 30s (in the British sense of the words).

The reason conservatism will grow is because liberals idea's suck. If any of my fellow college students manage to make it into an economics class, they'll have to re think just about anything that liberals put forth as an "economic" plan. Nothing liberals have ever tried has worked. Where's the end of poverty? where are the great schools? where's the health care? There ideas don't bring what they claim because there terrible, and make no sense.

Right, but he has expanded government spending for right wing causes, esp. his faith based initiatives which think abstinence only education can decrease the teen pregnancy rate, which research shows it has not. Will Republicans support Bush if he were to take away oil company subsidies? I think not. If that money went to education, would people have liked Bush more yes. I actually spent 4 years in the Army and can tell you that if you are liberal as I am generally you don't let others know your views, especially since many Army bases are in the south,
But you do notice that most of the drill SGT's are black hell most of the NCO"s are black and latino and most of the Officers are white there of course some exceptions
but you do notices an uneveness that you are forced to swallow therfore reenforcing your libeal views
