The U.S. thought it would help South Vietnam, but were really fighting China and the USSR. We were out-gunned and out-supplied, China and USSR could transport goods via truck, we had to mail everything in. They also proved to be especially cruel adversaries.

That was the main problem in Vietnam for the soldiers. If the system's broken, new parties won't fix it. You need to change the laws and enforce them.

@PrinceSamanti It was not just kids from ghettos and poor families that were sent there. I was drafted and sent there, and many just like me were..... a middle-class family. You are probably not wrong about the rich kids though..... seems they almost always had an alternative solution. However, I do recall a pretty good friend who served with me who was from a very affluent family.

@TheDFB71 Sorry for the late response: yeah the Platoon Leader is wearing a 1st Cav Patch and alot of the verbage the reporter and the men use is clearly Army and not Marine. Example Marines would say platoon commander not platoon leader, stuff like that.

The name gives it away PEOPLES ARMY OF VIETNAM (PAVN). The Vietnamese were only trying to rid their country of colonial oppression. France , the USA and SVN were the offenders they didnt represent the Vietnamese people PAVN/NLF did.

The U.S. thought it would help South Vietnam, but were really fighting China and the USSR. We were out-gunned and out-supplied, China and USSR could transport goods via truck, we had to mail everything in. They also proved to be especially cruel adversaries.
