  • It's a pity that the severn tunnel route from Cardiff does not take you past here. That's a fabulous view of the bridge.

  • Was this when the Tunnel was closed and all cardiff- london trains went via gloucester.

    The Severn bridge was hit by a ahip on my mum's birthday 26th oct 1960, the bridge also carried a gas pipe which was damaged leaving 100o's of people in the Forest of Dean without any heating

  • Really, you mean the Severn Road Bridge. The Severn Bridge was damaged in 1960 and finally destroyed in 1967 (I think.) You can see the remains of the abutments on both sides (as well as the construction that supported the swing-bridge on the south side) still. At low tide you can see the remains of the piers and of the oil barges that struck the bridge.
