Everytime I hear this song I'm amazed that it isn't their top selling song of all time. But I can see why they don't perform it more. It's sung in the upper voice register, and it gets harder to sing so high as you get older. They sing it a full octave higher than in the beginning of the song. WOW! Still, they could transpose it down a third and make it easier to sing. It would still be great.

@deQuercy321 Maybe you're already aware of this but they rehearsed Drowning Man in Barcelona in 2009 - versions on YouTube. Definitely rehearsal quality sound, as in them asking themselves (especially Bono) can we actually do this anymore - but on one full run-through he manages a decent effort for an 'old' man.

Try the 2Oth June 2009 effort and see what you think. Not certainly as smooth as his young self but I'd take it live anyday above some of their more over-played 'family favourites'
