  • great job, note by note, very precise.

  • wow dude!!!!

really nice I thought it was spot on!

  • @brokencc1 Thanks. Your guitar sounds nice, mine are 1997 too.

  • This is a really good attempt at the piece; well done mate! Hendrix in my humble opinion wasn't only an exciting, creative and innovative guitarist, but also an amazing composer as well; you only have to listen to Vilanova Junction to see that. It's the most wonderful and sublime piece of music.

  • Nice cover! Did you coil tap the humbucker for this?

  • @SudoDSLAM Thanks. No the wiring is all standard, they are just nice pickups and with a half decent univibe and wah, but it sound much better using my telecaster, I will upload it.

  • @SudoDSLAM See my latest upload using telecaster and guitar rig 3, guitar rig has a great Univibe emulator.

Its a looser attempt at Villanova but the tone is better.

  • What's the chord you're holding at 1:20? I watched Woodstock videos of him and could not figure it out, now I'm watching you and I still can't figure it out...

  • @danslatente I think 666786.

  • @7byseven I messed around with it after my initial post and found 6x6788 to be the one that sounds closest to what Hendrix and you played. Otherwise known as A#maj9(#11) I guess?

  • @danslatente Yea that sounds more right, like I say I play what I hear so I dont really use chord names, I just know what key im in.

  • Thumbs up!

  • This has to be the best cover of Hendrix on youtube, way to go!

Did you tune your Ibanez to E flat?

  • @boogiechillen123 Thanks, it was tuned to E flat if I remember right. I had to remove one of the locking nuts to do that string bend thing lol

  • I'm curious where you got the bass backup music.. Did you make that too? Awesome job Dude!!

  • @gcoxalaska Thanks. The bass was part of a midi file, it had a midi piano sound instead of guitar so I removed everything and just left the bass, I added the metronome sound later which I now regret, I though at the time it needed some kind of beat but it sounds horrible.

btw saw your video where you tame that horse, really fascinating to watch how they become les and less nervous.

  • You have one of the best recreations of the Woodstock tune I ever heard.

    (Old Cowboy Hendrix Fan)

  • Can't thank 7byseven enough for this video. Beautiful job. I've studied

it for hours. What a beautiful composition by JH - reminds me of one of those pieces by Chopin where a reverie is interrupted by a momentary storm.

  • damn good. almost note for note.

  • Fantastic tone as near as you can get

  • Hey Charlie is this you

  • saaaav

  • sounds unusual with all the reverb, but excellent cover

  • i would come buckets if you woudl make a mashup between Villanova JUnction and Tender Surrender...sicne he Ol'LIttle STeve VAi "inspired" himself over Jimi's song

  • I love your rendition ! well done man !

  • tutorial pleaaasee! even if you learned this song by ear... please try to do a tutorial

  • so nice

  • im jimi,s greatest fan!! . period and that was awesome simply shit my pants perfect,,, what MOJO?? INCREDIBLE!! jimi would be so pleased.

  • u killed it bro

  • man...i really am struggling in playing this awesome tune right...

  • awesome, but while listening i allways had the feeling it is way too fast.

  • I'm so fucking jealous, it isn't even funny :)

  • Bro a tutorial on this song please!!!

  • @alcram hi I learned it by ear over many years so theres not much i can say to help really. i dont use tabs so the positions i use are not exactly how hendrix played it.

    cheers

  • @7byseven Hey no tabs needed. Just play it slower and make a stop here and there to show them licks. But believe me this might not be exactly how Hendrix played it but it's pretty darned close.

  • Quality

  • Really flipping good I play it my self but not like that's note for note stuff man

  • this cover is better than 90% of the rest out there

  • This is in my opinion one of Jimmy's best improvised jams (woodstock) that he ever did, it is dripping with feel, emotion, and its right off the cuff. You did a fucking excellent job keeping it original. Hey I really do like the effect your using, what is it? Is it a Uni-vibe? Please write me and let me know. Good going buddy...

  • Get a strat ;D

  • @bleusswissbless I got a telecaster instead :D

  • hey bro i have to ask u something i recorded a voice file to my mp3 player:D i played the guitar completely by chance ,no scales or anything( i played also this song a bit in it) how can i upload it to utube with just one picture ? :)

  • @esraretin Easiest way I think is windows movie maker, you might already have it on your computer but you can download it free also. You just import your picture and song then drag the picture until its same length as the song then export them as a "new movie". I use sony vegas, same process but plenty more options.

  • @7byseven ok thx i was trying it:)

  • @7byseven watch?v=DshyvNWay1Y

i managed it but promise dont laugh at me:))) actually u can becuase im laughing too

  • Ah. Superb. You really got the feel aswell as all the notes and are spot on with the Univibe sound. Very nice indeed, bro. Also I never knew that Jimi did a behind the nut bend at 1:05. But now I see you doing it it seems so obvious. Cool. Thanks for sharing this. :-)

Do a search on Youtube for Steve Tibbets + Villanova Junction doing another cool version (acoustic) recorded in Lhasa Tibet.

  • @mysticbumwipe Thanks mate. I picked up that nut bend from Jimmy Page on dazed and confused and assumed Hendrix must have done it.

I had to remove part of the locking nut to do the bend which subsequently got lost and I had to buy a new one lol

That steve tibbet version is cool, a lot of clipping but sounds cool and well played.

  • @7byseven My bad, hes not clipping its my PC's volume settings sorry.

  • Not bad dude-one of the best i have heard-really true to the original-unbelievable job!!

  • Dude I gotta say, that was fuckin good. I never comment on other guitar videos usually because the quality/player's ability is subpar compared to the song they're doing. But that was note for note Villanova Junction. I know some parts, but definitely can't do the whole song as seamlessly as that. Not that you need the encouragement, but keep it up man.

  • Very, very good!!

  • What chord is that a 1:20? i'm learning it by ear.

  • @TheDannybarra Starting with the bottom E the chord is 5X5677

  • YOU ARE JIMI HENDRIX

  • @caccopolus no hes not?

  • Absolutely fantastic. That's the best version I've heard next to Jimi's original. Amazing.

  • That just depressed the shit out of me.I know the notes when I hear it, no way I could ever play it.

  • U did a very nice job, just with the wrong sound settings. Or maybe recording is not so quality.... pickups sound harsh and more overdriven than needed.

If you were given Hendrix' strat, it would be comparable to his performance. ;)

  • @kokybhakta Yea I wish I had my telecaster back then. I'll never buy an average guitar again they just dont cut it. Thanks.

  • @7byseven I know this sound very well, since I have Ibanez RG470 myself. These cheap ceramic INF pickups are so dull and flat sounding, that I almost gave up playing because of them, back when I was starting. I swapped them for Duncans, and put Original floyd rose, and now it rocks!

And there's a clip right next to yours, on right sidebar, with Jimi playing Villanova Junction on Gibson Flying V. So it does work with humbuckers, too, but his pickups were old paf-style vintage outpute ones.

  • @kokybhakta It does sound good on the V, like you say it needs the vintage touch. As far as I know PAF's are like a small version of God.

  • Very Good :) You should get it recorded and on disc

  • @mickthefigg Thanks I might do it again on the right guitar and proper backing track and obviously HD.

  • i really wonder u play just with ear? or notes ,tabs

  • @esraretin I hate sheet music bro, I always thought that shit was for people who are tone deaf.

  • @7byseven really thanks man because i ll give up playing guitar ...i feel that its completely about talent...

  • @esraretin Thanks im no talent I just think if you dig something you will always get bitten by the bug. You should keep a guitar lying around just in case, thats all I did.

  • Nicely played. Shame the cameras at Woodstock weren't as focussed on Jimi's hands as your camera is on yours :-)

  • A little stiff, but still a nice performance. Well done.

  • @bichomaldito Im sorry you didnt enjoy the erection lol

  • could you tell me the chords you use in very beginning, nice performance

  • @Strummingkid Thanks, They are simple 2 note chords, hold down the 6th string at 5th fret and the 4th string at the 7th fret and mute all the other strings, theres a bit of a nak to it but you wanna be hearing just those 2 notes when you strum.

  • I'm a guitarist & have been performing for 30 years (& still going) & I REALLY enjoyed your effort for this incredible little piece that Hendrix simply improvised that day @ Woodstock. My favorite version by far & you did it the closest I've ever heard it; with the same melodic integrity this tune demands. SwwwwEEEET! I also like the fact that (like me) you're an 'ear' musician. Thanks for an enjoyable rendition. I'd like to hear you do Band of Gypsies live at the Fillmore version of Machine Gun

  • @Kazyman Thanks, thats not a tune im very familiar with actually, not enough to do it justice. I prefer "hear my train a comin" when it comes to that mode of Hendrix and I notice he sometimes used it on the intro to machine gun.

  • @7byseven Hear my train a comin...hmmm...like the gynee; I'll have to look into that. Thanks, & all the best.

  • u re great

  • Wonderful rendition, I would like to play like you and, listen, until you play like that your time has not come yet... five stars for you from Italy

  • The original is awesome too but this is better than it imo. great, clean work!

  • @Gombfagyi jesus, you have a really strange "imo" ! (imo...)

    Anyway i think he's good .

  • hey man i think its one of the best covers iv seen realy great

  • Nailed it as far as I'm concerned, wow I am impressed!

  • tendarh surrendah

  • wonderful work by you and so clean ! Thanks.

  • MIND BLOWING

  • Un-freaking-believable!

My friend, we have to get you on to a 60's Strat and a Fulltone's Full-Drive 2 along with a stack of Marshalls.... your touch is incredible!

You have the tune down pat! You are missing a few half and eighth bars when the Master did his magic in a couple of spots, but there's no question you can do this.

    Amazing! Thank You!

  • Dude, that was fuckin amazing! Why aren't you in a band and world famous yet?

  • @RebelThoughts I only play to myself I hate performing even to family. I like the idea of doing session work but not being in a band, maybe 20 years ago id have tried some bands but my time has gone now. Thanks mate.

  • @7byseven Man, that's a great vid! Did you watch Woodstock like a thousand times? I will have to watch yours about that much to get even close. Thanks for the great tone, great feel, and a vid I can work from! Can you tell me what effects you added? Dist? Verb? Etc?

  • @btkinney Yea I watched the video for some of it and guessed the rest, improvised bits I couldnt quite catch. I used a boss me50 with univibe, OD1 distortion and compressor and wah wah.

    cheers glad you liked it

  • @7byseven Well done !! Beautiful piece, i always loved it and also played it. But i've never got the rid out of the last chorus, it's tough, isn't it ?

  • @djdjany Thanks, that last bit is quite complex but if you are up to speed with your playing in general its not hard it just sounds hard.

  • Its not Minor Pena Ur hearing, its called the harmoic minor, it like the Natural Minor but with a raised 7th

  • I love it! You nailed it bud!

  • Anyone who gave this thumbs down deserves to have their thumbs cut off. I mean it's not jimi, but this guy fucking nails it!

  • how the hell did anyone thumb this down? i demand they post their own videos playing this song.

  • dude you helped me out alot on this song, thanks. sounds pretty tight. all the 7 people that dislike you cause they cant play. lol

  • I was looking for the real thing on Youtube but it wasn't there. Fortunately this was top of the list of alternatives. As it should be. Thanks Youtube and thanks 7.

  • @andygermaine nice one mate

  • hahah alright you win i get what your sayin its true if you play from reading tabs you are lacking the true style and feal

  • Comment removed

  • @tokegod Ive always played by ear since I was 8. If I had to use tabs I wouldnt bother playing guitar at all far too lazy for printing our tabs and playing one note a minute for an hour.

  • very good sound but unfortunately a lack of groove!!

  • Awesome playing, awesome tone, awesome everything. May I ask, what scales are you playing around with in there? I love the extra little ghost notes Jimi used that are outside the majors that give it that eerie, spine tingly feel.

  • @ElectricLadyland87 Thanks I think they are A minor pentatonic and the guitar is tuned to Eb.

  • @ElectricLadyland87 hes playing an natural A minor scale. not pentatonic.

  • You got it just right. Perfect

  • Awesome playing right there!

  • Very nice. Never before have I heard such a wonderful interpretation of this song. If I turn away from the screen, it's almost as if Hendrix himself is playing it. Nicely done, sir.

  • cool :D

  • wow, thankyou!!!!!! my god you are great!!

  • Hecks yea!

  • Beautiful.

  • Man this is absolutely awesome!! do i detect a slight hint of a univibe in there?

  • jealous... its about 96% right.....still sick

  • @garciahouse8 Thanks man. I cant stand my own playing so im always blown away by comments like yours.

  • @garciahouse8 I've never heard a Hendrix song played the same way more than once, not even by Hendrix himself.

  • jealous...

  • very groovy

  • great)

  • nailed it. every note, chord and transition. very nice.

  • superbe demonstration du big boss J . Hendrix

  • very good

  • good

  • REPLICA! SOMEBODY SHOULD 'FIND' YOU MAN!

  • Absolutely excellent. I think that's the closest to the original I've ever heard.

  • beautiful man ,well pulled off .not an easy song to copy , keep up the great playing and the spirit alive !

  • @handtricks HEY Angel we both were watchin the nsame video good timeing hahah yes hes got it down note for note

  • It;s half three in the morning and this is just sublime.. on of the best "FEEL" song of Hendrix. The fuckers pulled the woodstock version..

  • even the shazam thinks youre jimi..

  • man you got it note for note 5 stars

  • Fantastic playing

Thanks for sharing this moment of happiness

  • Unreal. Fantastic!

  • very nice cover

  • @ logan aka Sparrows! nice :)

  • Awesome!!!!

  • it seems like you can only learn the great songs by ear because tabs just dont cut it

  • What effect pedal are you playing through ? sounds great.

  • Niiiiice!

I've been trying to play/learn this piece forever.

Getting the notes is one thing -- getting the phrasing is ...

    (almost) impossible.

    Thanks.

  • What is the fingering and strumming from 2:05 to 2:15? Can you elaborate. I wish I could learn on my own better. Could you tab just that part?

  • @JimBozeman1956 I feel your pain man but I just improvised by ear on this track. I tried to make a tab of something once and failed badly, like I say someone has made a tab recently of this but I odnt know if its good.

  • Bravo

  • tender surrender intro!!

  • Beautiful piece. Excellent go at it mate!

  • Great job! One of my favorites

  • Great job, this is truly excellent. You captured all the feeling & did such a great job.

  • Hey 7 I discovered that Jimi used his thumb to play the first 4 notes of this, or in your cover's case the first 3 notes, I tried this and it sounds more like Jimi's sound if you do it that way, also use your index finger and your pinky for the slide notes, and always use the thumb for the lower e 5.

  • Wow! Superb rendition of one of the greatest live performances of all time. 7 is an excellent guitarist and I commend him for what I'm sure was hard work in not only figuring out the musical details but getting the sound spot on. Thank you and Well Done!!!

  • @h1machiii Thanks h1machiii, it looks like they removed the higher quality 480p version it sounds rough and tinny now.

  • @7byseven That's too bad, I'd love to hear the higher definition version considering the sound was very good as it was. The lower quality affected the video more I think, it's a bit slow and jerky. Hey don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! One of the best on YouTube.

  • @7byseven pfft, totally backed that rendition up. Can't trust utube to hold onto this for any period of time.

  • Wow! Superb rendition of one of the great live performances of all time. 7 is an excellent guitarist and I commend him for what I'm sure was hard work in not only figuring out the musical details but getting the sound spot on. Thank you and Well Done!!!

  • Awosome ! love it

  • sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!

  • steve vai copy that licks.. listen to tender surrender of steve vai it's sound so similar

  • @droga187 no, he was inspired by this, dumbass, its not a copy its just the slide lol

  • *****

  • shows you just how inventive Jimi was on guitar

  • Great job

  • BADASS. thats all i got to say, props to u man.

  • うまいなあ・・・・いま練習中だけど、こんなうまく弾けないや@@;

  • Hey, this is fantastic! One of my favorite songs ever. Do you sell a tab for this? I've been trying to learn this for years. Let me know. Jim

  • @JimBozeman1956 I never use tabs sorry mate but someone recently uploaded a cover of this with downloadable tabs its not that hard to find.

  • @JimBozeman1956 thanks v much btw

  • its bloody good int it, but see we got Aminor and then onto the Dminor bit and then its like and F kinda thing?struggle with this tune but ive always known the first bit but wanna learn the whole thing like the master here, help me jimi

  • @harrythegrass Thanks mate someone recently uploaded a cover of this along with tabs its not that hard to find. I didnt use tabs I play by ear so you would be best learning the tab for accuaracy good luck man.

  • @7byseven no man its really good, im tryin a learn it from the woodstock video the now but ur vids probably the better learning tool, how is that F chord played?its like an F then goes down to the Dminor thru the E,D# in the bass but what are the other notes?also whats the A# chord he uses?

  • @harrythegrass Thats exactly how I learned it, I always film at an angle you can see my fingers.

Im not sure which bit you mean, tell me at what time it starts and finishes. Like I say I play by ear so I dont know much about the exact chordage and notes im playing. All I know is you tune to something like Eb and its in the key of Am if im honest, the rest is just a noise lol

  • @7byseven yeh i always liked this instrumental dunno why, anyway that chord thats at about 1.23 that kinda ends that sequence, i think the F chord hes playing is just a pretty standard 7th or #9 thing whatever, ur right jimi probably didnt know the chords or notes he just knew the sound they made when it killed a man lol

  • @harrythegrass starting with the bottom E the chord is 555677

  • @7byseven Then play the following strings 6 432 123 4 2 while holding the chord.
