Pat is trying to attack the root of the problems in the world: the disconnect from reality that comes from believing in anything supernatural whatsoever. He thinks relgion promotes this to a degree that one is either mad enough to feel justified in doing violence, or browbeaten enough to give money to a pulpit pimp.
And don't promote religious views prescribed as law. One day, the muslims may be a majority and you could wind up under their Shariah law.
...The entire Bible is a contradiction, as well as everything you believe. Why so defensive? The guy had it right. No truth= need for defensiveness for a brittle belief.
I was agreeing with you and enjoying this video, until 1:57, and to that I say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! First of all, I know this is a matter of opinionation but "right" and "wrong" are all a matter of perspective. Secondly, and more importantly, MATH IS LOGIC and science is that logic applied to the empirical senses. Ahh and then at 3:00 you redeemed yourself. As an agnostic completely agree with what you say about proof. Haha I lol'd at the end though. "Thanks jewish person!"
Leviticus says homosexuality is bad, and then Jesus later in the book of John supports Leviticus, so the New Testament doesn't "fix" the slavery and stonings and misogyny and homophobia. If you don't believe those things are right, then you're not a Christian... you're just wearing a mask because that's what you've been taught your whole life.
well put, cute teenage girl...i think faith in any model is simply pretend...nobody knows certainty of the un known...so why pick a side at all?...just live as a humanoid to the best of your capabilities w/o any divisive involvement at all
Listen, the thing is I as an atheists(maybe others too) don't really care about what other ppl have as faith. I wouldn't really care if the guy sitting next to me was a a christian, muslim, hindu, jew etc.etc. But when ppl start falsely accusing atheism as a bad and dangerous religion, when their faith is the REAL danger to humanity, thats when things get heated up.....
What a sweet person! Hey I think all your pro-theist points can be invalidated but I sense you have a 'good heart'. Yes it is possible to be atheist and understand right and wrong, good and bad, such principles are even more axiomatic than the mis-concepts of deities. I think Pat's issues are not with all theists per se but more with the corrupt business that is organised religion. I do hope you can discuss your rebuttal directly with Pat as if you truly are as open minded as you appear then i
Lets do this the scientific way: Science (and most atheists, for that matter) only believes things when it has been proven, and god isnt proven yet, why should we believe in him?
@Shrubery10 Only an idiot would just post "you're an idiot." Do us all a favor and add some intellectual reason as to WHY you feel this way. Otherwise you do discredit to all the SMART atheists out there.
ummm, girl, call me wrong, but atheism is the simple non- believing of existence of god, and continuous non-believing until fair and rational proof is put before us. Also, in some ways, i think that human beings created gods in their minds like allah, or jusus, or muhammad, i think all there gods are NO WHERE NEAR REAL.
@robroyoldboy our minds have the capacity to develop morals because it helps us survive as social beings
no divine being is beaming our morals to us, it's all part of what society expects from us. that's why morals differ from some different countries. to actually help you out here on why creationism is wrong, maybe you should do some research or even better yet, watch a video.this should help, its called "why do people laugh at creationists" watch?v=BS5vid4GkEY
Do you have black friends too? LOL Young lady you have a lot to learn and I hope you are open minded enough to learn...... Thunder is not the voice of god nor is the earth flat. It is wrong for religion to blackmail people with eternal damnation. Terrorism is best realized through religion.....
BTW my instinct is not to worry about saving christians from the myth of god but my morality forces me to educate those such as yourself to the faslehood of your beliefs.
The corrupt part of religion is the lying and control factor of it all. Being black is not a choice- buying a lie is a choice. Being homosexual is not a choice, buying the fraud of religion is a choice. god and the bible are not a truth- they are a myth, fiction and are a detriment to our society. All of your rant in no way proves your belief in god. Morals are not owned by religion. Atheism is not faith based it is fact based. Belief in god is faith based.
@psychicpriest Religion becomes corrupted only by the hands of men. The religion preaches "Love thy neighbor as thyself." It does NOT teach "Love thy neighbor as thyself, unless he's black, jewish, atheist, homosexual, or different from you in any way." The KKK warped it to say stuff like that. Do you believe all Christians are KKK members? Well we're not. In fact, we despise the image given to us by them. The same is true of most muslims: they despise terrorists for the bad name they give them.
@AshkenazimJude Simple: Because it is not true. And it's not that he said it, it's WHO he said it about. Saying all Christians have bad morals IS like saying all black people have bad morals. Or, better yet, it's like saying all WHITE people have bad morals. Or like she said, saying all atheists have bad morals. It is simply not true.
christianity has fuck all to do with morality.why it even claims it has is nuts.morality is like the law.its natural to preserve your species, thats why we have it.
also,it depends on what culture you are in,some things in africa etc would be morally wrong but over there, its fine.
and hey,its up to you to prove the existence of god,its called "the burden of proof".
and dont talk about "open minds" when you clearly dont have one,we have evidence on the contrary of god and evidence for evolution
@1984LizardKing Evidence contrary to God? Let me see this evidence. I have seen much of what people call evidence, only to find the hole in their logic. Indeed, most of the best scientists in the world admit that the fossil record has holes so large that they can't be denied or explained. Even experts say the likelihood of evolution explaining all of earth's creatures is similar to someone shaking a jar full of pennies and having them all land heads-up in a neat stack in chronological order.
@robroyoldboy who told you that, kent hovind? evolution is a fact of life, get over it.
but all religious hypothesis is able to do is point out small flaws in Scientific Theories.turning that around, science has proven so much of the bible to be false that the credibility of the remaining material is virtually nothing. if you believe some eternal magic man to be responsible for our design and welfare, then you are a fool and your god is an incompetent fool for being such a bad designer
@1984LizardKing Bad designer? That comment BEGS an explanation, because I haven't seen any flaws in the creation yet. I've seen plenty that I don't like, but that's MY problem, not a problem with existence or the world. So prove your "bad designer" and "incompetent fool" comments. And yes, in this case the 'burden of proof' is on you, because you made those comments, not me.
@robroyoldboy of course "god" is a bad designer, cancer, all sorts of diseases, the state of the world,he creates future suffering as he knows everything that will ever be.the universe is a bad design to,andromeda is heading our way, which will destroy all life.comets whizzing around, asteroids, gamma rays, quasars.the universe,if created is adangerous creation, not a perfect creation as you say.
@1984LizardKing Post A: You listed a whole bunch of things that I don't like, but that doesn't make them unneeded. The fact that I don't know His plan in no way means that there is no plan. Has a friend of yours ever had a plan that he wouldn't tell you about? The suffering that you point to, I see as a means for God to test us, and for us to prove our value.
@robroyoldboy and maybe you dont get it,you cant just say i make no sense all the time.if your god is truly perfect,he would never make anything imperfect.why cant you grasp that?
you really just dont understand anything do you?im talking about aramaic, its the language that died out.why convey your important message in a language you know will die out? he is incompetant.
you know what forget it,you just brainfart about and say "this makes no sense whatsoever" you are shut off from reality.
@1984LizardKing So you think God should have spoken to the local Aramaic speaking people and spoken English? Let's try this: You go to Russia and try to say ANYTHING to the locals. What reaction do you get? NONE! Maybe a blank stare. So.... why does that make God incompetent?
@robroyoldboy you just dont get anything i have said do you?
" So you think God should have spoken to the local Aramaic speaking people and spoken English?" no for fuck sake, just give up,honestly!! your god is mr know it all isnt he? well he is incompetant for having his own important message to mankind written in a language he knew would die out.why you cant get that is because you are a christian and you just dont want to face reality.theres more holes in your gods story than an afghan rug
@1984LizardKing " " So you think God should have spoken to the local Aramaic speaking people and spoken English?" no for fuck sake, just give up,honestly!! "
So you concede my point then? What language should it have been written/spoken in then, since you know everything?
@1984LizardKing Not long ago there was a political candidate who voted to allow 7 year olds to be tazered. Does this sound evil?
Now, the context: If the 7 year old had a gun, the police could then tazer the child and get the gun away without causing permanent harm. Still sound evil?
@robroyoldboy no,the context is the best way for you to explain away god approved rape, paedophilia, genocide, slavery and every other horrible thing in the buybull.
so...god kills 70,000 innocent people because david ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). god also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. he orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). out of context here?

@1984LizardKing These things you sent as "proof" seem to be nothing but assertions from atheists that are either totally misguided, completely misinterpreted, or just plain falsehoods. Many of the contradictions come from different versions, or are from completely different books, or are taken completely out of context. Remember, just because it has been written of in the bible does not automatically make it a command. Sometimes it's just a record of events. The story of King David for example.
@robroyoldboy and god is incompetant, heres one explanation.he has all the power in the world yet he cant correct his own mistakes? what is perfect cannot become imperfect, so humans must have been created imperfect. what is perfect cannot create anything imperfect, so god must be imperfect to have created these imperfect humans. a perfect god who creates imperfect humans is impossible
@1984LizardKing Post B: Who says God's creation isn't perfect just the way it is? Perhaps there is a REASON why things work the way they do, and you just can't understand. But don't feel bad about that, I can't understand it either. We, as mortals, are not supposed to understand. And btw, a perfect being could easily create something imperfect. Your argument on this point makes no sense whatsoever.
@robroyoldboy and your god is incompetant for the "fact" he spoke these "wise words" to people in a language he knew would die out, that is incompetant to say the least.and how is somebody bleeding make some one wrong, not wrong? your god is stupid and incompetant .why sacrafice himself to himself as a loophole for rules he created that were unjust and that makes the rules just? thats nuts.
Respond to this video... @1984LizardKing Post C: He spoke the words in a language the people he was speaking to would understand. Would you really speak wisdom in a language the recipient would NOT understand? They would not get the message, they would assume you are incompetent, and they would not write down what you said. This argument as well makes no sense. As for the need for Jesus, this is another of those things mortals are not supposed to understand. (continued)
@1984LizardKing We cannot understand why the sacrifice of Jesus was necessary, we just have to know it was, and have some clue as to what it meant. The fact that it was foretold by books of the bible that were written HUNDREDS of years before Jesus was born in a time when crucifixion hadn't been invented yet also lends it credibility. Yes, the first greek translation of the old testament, which included all the prophecies about Jesus, was made 250 years before Jesus was born.
@robroyoldboy yet morality is not arbitrary: once there's agreement that social interaction is desirable (which i would suggest is, as a matter of empirical fact, effectively universal), then there are right and wrong answers within a particular environment about what is moral. If you're living in a tribal society these norms might be different to if you live in a big city, but within an environment one can judge morals in reference to how well they achieve the agreed ends of morality.
@robroyoldboy also, your god creates us with superior morals compared to his morals? thats incompetanty to say the least.god is our moral guide yet his are wosrse than ours? thats incompetant.you are obviously morally superior to your god.everyone is,its not hard to be.
@robroyoldboy hahaha what? you just sidestepped that, well done.who invented morals? no one, morals are like the law,the whole idea of morals coming from authoritive guy in the clouds doesnt work, saying "this is right and wrong because of our particular god"doesnt work, what if your god suddenly appeared and said"its fine for you to go kill your chldren,do it for me" would it be the right thing to do,would you do it?
you are your own moral authority, especially when you consider the christian god
@1984LizardKing So... If you are your own morality, then killing someone who insults you is ok. Killing a woman who won't sleep with you is ok. oppressing someone is ok... That's where tyranny comes from. On the other hand, God's laws (Also known as the ten commandments), specifically 6-10, forbid the behaviors that are central to tyranny and oppression. And yet I hear atheists claim that the bible leads to such things. How? Please explain, because I still haven't found it.
@robroyoldboy stop talking shit, i just explained why christianity has nothing to do with morality.it doesnt and never will.you have trouble understanding most things i say.you just come back with"that argument makes no sense" when in actual fact, its not an argument, its the way it is.ive explained how evolution is true, you said "that makes no sense" now its the same with morality.basically, you will ignore everything i say then justify your god easily and delude yourself.you want sources? fine.
@robroyoldboy "So... If you are your own morality, then killing someone who insults you is ok. Killing a woman who won't sleep with you is ok. oppressing someone is ok"..no its not ok stop talking shit, you christians will always try get away with that crap.
here is some sources for your god being "great".....
@robroyoldboy selling your own daughter as a sex slave: (Exodus 21:1-11), other rape:? (Judges 21:10-24 NLT) is the rape of virgins,(Numbers 31:7-18 NLT)the rape of virgins,(Deuteronomy 20:10-14),Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT) which is the? law of rape,Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB) death to the rape victim,(2 Samuel 12:11-14 NAB), (Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB),(Judges 5:30 NAB),(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT) is sex slaves, and god assisted rapeZechariah 14:1-2 NAB),
@robroyoldboy isnt exactly a moral figure anyway, promoting incest, human sacrafice, rape, genocide, child killing is nt the way forward morally.
you are the ultimate judge of whatever you consider moral and immoral and any being i respect admire came and said" kill your kid" id say fuck off.
christianity has no morality,it has obedience to authority,it has that as a substitute for morality.its simply takes for granted ths all powerful being all knowledgeable being who because he is omnicient
@robroyoldboy and omnipotent would never ask something bad from you and because father knows best as it were you simple allow this thing to do your thnking for you.
if your god tolld you its ok for me to make you my slave would you do it? he is ok with the whole idea as it is.
understand that x is wrong, even if it is done by your god.
christians trying to peddle ths crap is immoral.
if god wants you to do x and you will do it no matter what because it is your god, morality doesnt matter to you,
@robroyoldboy you are all about obedience to authority.
.and anyway, your salvation is all about faith and not works,so why bring up morals at all because it doesnt matter, morals are irrelevant to christianity and to your salvation if your salvations all about faith
morality is like the law, only it has an even greater overriding nature; morality is the most important of the guiding forces to which we adhere. It is not absolute, not fixed, not closed to negotiation.
@robroyoldboy and neither is religious morality: there is disagreement within and between religions over interpretation of morality. this disagreement is ultimately arbitrated by humans, and we come to agreement over how to behave. secular morality is no different in this respect.
the function of morality is to guide behaviour to enable and facilitate social interaction, cooperation and cohesion, because these things advance human interests and wellbeing. the behaviours that best advance
@robroyoldboy yet morality is not arbitrary: once there's agreement that social interaction is desirable (which i would suggest is, as a matter of empirical fact, effectively universal), then there are right and wrong answers within a particular environment about what is moral.if you're living in a tribal society these norms might be different to if you live in a big city, but within an environment one can judge morals in reference to how well they achieve the agreed ends of morality.
@robroyoldboy you think you have a moral argument for god,you dont.it doesnt make sense to you,you are shut off from reality.the moral argument gets slaughtered every time a christian tries to sneakily put it out there.
the argument undermines its own respect towards objective morality, by suggesting that morality comes from a source we cannot recognize.while this does not mean that the argument is false, it does it does imply that human dont understand whether they are acting right or wrong.
@robroyoldboy we are social animals, the reason we are here is simply to help the next generation experience a brighter future. , it's different from scientists who devote their time in finding new ways to help future generations and also, morals are developed through a combination of both nature and nurture, but nothing divine.through instinct, we develop morals that allow us to be more effective in helping the society in which we live in, this is necessary for survival. our minds have the
@robroyoldboy you believe in creation story, you believe in adam and eve?what the fuck?you've lost it. according to your bible i am to believe that human kind is sinful for adam and eve ate the fruit of knowledge.why are we being punished for the original sin? after all, they ate the forbidden fruit, we didn’t. reason would lead one to say it’s their problem, not ours.ignorance is bliss eh
anyway,im not continuing with this,you believe in the creation story,talking snakes,donkeys,and bushes,bye
@1984LizardKing I believe that much of the bible, especially the account of Adam and Eve and the book of Revelations, to be highly symbolic. Obviously snakes do not talk, duh. But that in no way means that the story has lost any importance whatsoever. The first people went against God, were punished, and their children proved no better, and THEIR children proved no better, etc, etc, and hence we are punished. ALL people struggle with sin, and therefore are punished.
@robroyoldboy yes, well done.lie for god, okay. the fact that the evolution theory(not the day to day term of the word) will not ever be completed due to having to trace the origins of everything that existed, doesnt mean it isnt true.remember we have only had 160 years of knowing what evolution is,as time goes on,we will have more.we already have mountains and mountains of it.why dont you read something on it if you dont believe it instead of the "god done it" excuse?
@1984LizardKing You accuse me of lies? Prove it. I aim for a RESPECTFUL debate, not name calling, accusations, or attitude. Prove points, not your own immaturity.
@robroyoldboy i dont have lies.it would appear you do.you say evolution isnt credible pretty much, even though the theory behind it is the strongest theory mankind has ever had.
the fact the parameters of the earth are so conducive to life is a great wonder, but it implies nothing about the existence of the creator.the anthropic principle suggests that were the universe different, we wouldn't be around to marvel at how fine tuned it was;as such, marvelling necessitates the very fine tuning,
@1984LizardKing Where do scientific 'laws' come from? They start as hypotheses, are tested and get moved to THEORY, then if they PROVE TRUE, they become scientific law. Gravity was once a theory. Celestial movement was once a theory. These have proven true, and are now laws. Evolution is still a theory.
As for parameters, as I asked someone else before, how many coincidences must there be before it becomes obvious that it is in fact something more? Perfect temperature, liquid water, (continued)
@1984LizardKing the perfect chemical reaction, ANOTHER perfect chemical reaction, ANOTHER perfect chemical reaction, (repeat the last three about a billion times or so)... How many random coincidences must have taken place and gone just perfectly or we wouldn't exist? How many does it take before you see that it was designed?
Want further proof? The moon is about 400 times closer than the sun. It's also 400 times smaller, which makes for PERFECT solar eclipses. What are the (continued again)
@1984LizardKing odds in nature that a species will evolve into an intelligent life-form at JUST the perfect time to be able to observe perfect solar eclipses? Any sooner and the moon would be covering everything of the sun. Any later and the sun's disk would be visible from behind the moon. What are the odds? As I asked, how many 'coincidences' must there be before it becomes obvious that it was designed intelligently? No, I don't believe it was designed in 6 human days, but designed, yes.
you know what i would say to pat condel and his whinning about how athiest he is and how he was waiting for GOD to call on his iphone, i took a closer look and smell a pile of dog shit in his words. how ever thanks for making a lil video
CS Lewis is fun and all, but one doesn't need God to explain morality. A moral act is one that increases happiness and/or decreases suffering, and an immoral act is one that increases suffering and/or decreases happiness. This explains why homophobia, misogyny and anti-semitism are wrong; they all increase suffering and decrease happiness. There's no need to add God to that formula.
@uhmidkybffali...I don't think Christians are immoral, They're insane. Have you even read the Bible ? Your "God" not only condones but commands rape, incest, kidnapping, murder, mass murder, genocide, slavery, eternal punishment for "not believing", Your "God" rewards faith over deeds. Your "God" is an ASS !
@odiewan58 "Your "God" not only condones but commands rape, incest, kidnapping, murder, mass murder, genocide, slavery" You'll have to prove these to be commands. Yes, such things are written of in the bible, but that doesn't make them commands. Give me book, chapter, and verse and I can explain why you are mistaken, and explain it very simply.
You're 16 and like all 16 year olds think you know more things regarding the hows and whys of the world than you actually do. You come across as very respectful but you do need to live a bit more first.
if you are not homophobic and rasist and sexist and so on you are not christian nor muslim, the only religion that is not homophobic, sexist or racist is hinduism and that isn't really a religion.
@eddson11 Where's your proof? I'm looking for specific verses that talk about this homophobia, racism, and sexism. Remember, you need to prove what you're saying, or you prove yourself invalid.
@robroyoldboy I've read the bible however I have no deesire what so ever to findout exactly what verse it is and all that, it's mentioned in several different ways in the bible. Also you have to sell you'r daughters as slaves, and if any one works on a sunday you will have to stone them to death, and if your kids disobey you you will also have to stone them to death. are you telling me that you really believe that people should do all that?
@eddson11 Mark 2:27: And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." That's just one counterpoint. You are speaking from the standpoint of the Pharisees, basically telling people "you must do this you must do that" to be a good religious person. Oddly enough, those are the very same people Jesus spent his whole life fighting against. In other words, no, I do NOT believe people should do all that, mainly because Jesus did not believe people should do all that.
@robroyoldboy how do you know what jesus did or thought? the bible is filled with riddles and on top of that it's translated. There is no way to know for sure what all the riddles mean, however the parts that are written clearly and straightforward is the "rules" and weird punnishments for breaking them. If you do believe, by all means do so, but don't trust that a book written hundreds of years ago by an unknown person in a dead language is telling the whole story nor the trouth.
@eddson11 We know how Jesus thought mainly because his disciples wrote down their accounts of Him. What do you think the new testament is about? As for the rules and punishments in the old testament, that was from a much different time, and the people of God have changed. About the translation, we have MILLIONS of people who know Latin, Greek, and English and study the bible in all three. Don't you think THOUSANDS of them would be crying out if there was something wrong in translation?
@robroyoldboy ever heard of making chickens out of feathers? I do believe that jesus existed and that he "ressurected" but I think it's more likely that he didn't actually die, just went into a short term coma or something like that. and its like it is when one person tells another person who tells another person, In the end you might end up with something not even similar to the thing that was said from the beginning, or a really strong exalduration.
@eddson11 So you're saying he went into a coma resulting from being pierced in the side, twice no less, by a spear? You're saying he did not die from two untreated spear wounds, while being crucified. And you don't find this to be miraculous? And yes, perhaps the early books of the old testament had been handed down by word-of-mouth, for lack of a written language, but we have samples of biblical passages ever since writing had been invented, and the experts all seem to agree on what they say.
@robroyoldboy Some people can survive extreme things (I think there is a documentary on it called super humans) Call it divine help or just superior genetic. Everything can be seen in both ways allthough I find the one ethat has actual proof to be the most believable one. There have been several cases of people appearing dead just to suddenly stand back upp and be just fine. I believe that religion was created by a person inorder to make people follow rules and act like humanbeeings.
@eddson11 So Jesus happens to spend his life preaching that he's the son of God, he happens to fulfill all the prophecies in the Bible (over 300 of them actually), to include being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver and being crucified, then just as those same prophecies predicted, he goes to the cross 'dies' and happens to be this 'super human' who survives two punishments, each of which would kill a normal man. How many super unlikely coincidences must there be before it becomes something more?
@robroyoldboy as I said before noone in this time can truly say that everything in the bible is true nor that it ever happenned. Just like in greek mythology the ones who "communicated" with the gods where taking drugs to induce halucinations, now what is there to proove that the prophets from other religions aren't just like that?
@eddson11 The only problem with that is this: Archaeologists use the bible, and have been for decades. It's not about faith (Although hopefully they pick some up in the process), it's about finding the cities and places the bible describes. And what they find is that if the bible says it's there, that's where they find it. Not too long ago they found King David's royal city, which he passed down to his son Solomon. Most believed it didn't exist, but the bible said it, and they found it.
@robroyoldboy Is the story in the bible about adam and eve and the talking snake true too? because I've never ever seen a talking snake, and I don't believe that the only 2 existing humans where thrown out of paradise because of eating a fruit, why not just destroy them? Revolution is a fact. so that's not true. I know a few stories in the bile are true but most of it isn't.
@eddson11 The fertile crescent is located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This is widely accepted as where the garden of Eden was. Oddly enough, it happens to be in Iraq, a shit hole of a place where nothing of value (in olden days) was found, and barely anything could survive. Sounds like a pretty good indicator of God's wrath for the first sin, doesn't it?
@robroyoldboy ever heard of making chickens out of feathers? I do believe that jesus existed and that he "ressurected" but I think it's more likely that he didn't actually die, just went into a short term coma or something like that. and its like it is when one person tells another person who tells another person, In the end you might end up with something not even similar to the thing that was said from the beginning, or a really strong exalduration.
girl you font have to say you beleave jesus infact you dont have to prove anything you can beleave what ever you want to beleave...........wake up god!
Don't even know where to begin - You just need many more years of education, and life. Keep your mind open to learning and in the future you will look back at this video and realize the various marks you have missed. Good luck! Pat Codell's 'Logic' is solid
Atheism isn't faith based unless you're talking about 'strong / hard' atheists who say god definitely doesn't exist. Typically most atheists I've known or heard of are what I'd call agnostic atheists. To call that sort of atheism faith based is asinine. To echo a point commonly made: you wouldn't call NOT believing in fairies faith. Also, if you've actually read the Old Testament (Christians seem to ignore it) it is very homophobic, sexist, and racist.
You're obviously intelligent and educated, and I enjoyed your video. I don't think that Pat said religious people are all corrupt; rather he's saying that the morality of the Abrahamic faiths is a "bad" morality (cruel, petty, unjust, etc). The fact that you are not homophobic, for example, puts you at odds with the morality of the Bible which clearly is. So what you say is "wrong" is, according to religion, "right". You are tolerant based upon your reason, not your faith in Jesus.
Right and wrong as well as morality can be seen as a literal path of least resistance. The better you get along with other people, the easier and less-stressful your life will become. It is not out of the realm of possibilities for this to have been enabled by evolution as a stronger trait for the well-being of a networked and plugged-in organism.
You seem like a smart girl and I hope you'll eventually see past the lies. Nature is amazing on its own without the need for supernature.
He didn't say that all religious people have bad morals, he said that religion is inherently intolerant and corrupting, because its central principles are specifically designed to exclude those that the founders of each religion disagreed with or found annoying. Additionally, all so-called moral laws are easily tracible to basic biological functions, mostly those meant to preserve the viability of the species.
Ok got half way, got bored, everybody's equal blacks, gays men, women, yeah that's great, but come on stop worshiping silly make believe man made creations lol it's religion that causing the problems start believing in it self and thing that r real!
Look at China 2/3 are atheist but many are turning to "religion" including Christianity. The communist government has been for 62 years trying to wipe out religion but has failed. 30000 Chinese a day are becoming Christian. 1949-1 million Christians, 2011-110 million, plus the many that are going back into their other religions. If evolution made a mistake called religion it has proven in China to be stronger than atheism/secularism&communism. What do you have to say about that atheist?
I lol'd. This is what our education systen produces apparently. Girl... write down all of your points and then assault them using the atheist logic that he presents... now reverse this and use your own christian bs to do the same to his... see which one stand up better? If you dont... I cant really blame you, education has failed you.
@gaarcemail Part 2- jump in the water and save the life of a person, right? This happens every day and I can't believe that if a god did exist, how can he not jump in to save that life? But we are talking about many lives and lets look at other factors poverty, emotional suffering, illnesses etc. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I had the power to stop it and didn't. Yet all it would take a god to change everything, is just to make himself present. To not do so is unjustifiable to me.
Part 1-You are a great person, a young person, I was very active as a catholic when I was your age, but as time went on question kept creeping up on me, which couldn't be justified as far as reasoning was concerned.
For example, Please take a look at the world around you; death is very where, natural disasters, murder, war, famine, crime is rampant, and like you said the right thing to do is-
Sorry, girly... i guess you haven't actually read your bible. Christianity is vile and horrible. If you actually did read the shit that is in it, before your parents raised you to be a christian, or whoever brainwashed you (that IS what they do) you probably would NOT call yourself a christian.
"The pure concept of blasphemy is a perfect illustration of the cowardly immaturity of the religious mind and the emptiness of religion itself. If religion held any truth it could be ridiculed, insulted or even defiled without being diminished in any way - it's truth would shine through. That is not the case."
Also, for the claim that there's no mathematical formula for morality there actually is, with taking into account the potential kin relationships it's actually is able to be calculated with the Price equation. So yeah, you can find a mathematical formula for morality. Or as Haldane once quipped, I would not give my life for my brother's, but I would for 2 brothers, or 8 cousins.
It requires as much faith to say there is no God as it takes to say the sun will rise in the morning. It takes as much evidence to say there is a God as to say there are elves in my pants.
1Timothy 2:11-12 "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet."
You probably won't read this. You are very understanding and respectable. I get the vibe you are stating that our basic moral compass is from Jesus, his teachings, and faith BECAUSE science can't explain it.
I can assure you this is not the case. It's the way we are programmed. Kindness did not spring after 0 AD. It's always been around. Just... look into psych studies and hang tight while we continue to learn more about the brain.
"Why is a qustion of logic" No its not... I you assert something with out eviidence then I need no evidence to refute your assertion. aTheism requires NO FAITH>!
what is a truth, but a different truth? How is this logical. Somethings are unknowable, and somethings have no wrong answers, don' t trust people that claim to know the unknowable.
The difference between saying "All religious people are corrupt and have bad morals" and saying "All athiests are corrupt and have bad morals" or "All black people are corrupt and have bad morals" is the fact that 1) black people are an ethnicity, not a belief group and 2) Religion forces people to act accordingly to a book. Athiesm does nothing of the sort, for some it promotes science, for others it's the simple rejection of bullshit.
I cannot prove god doesn't exist. This IN NO WAY LENDS CREDABILTY TO THE THEORY THAT GOD EXISTS! IN NO WAY AT ALL! Science NEVER proclaims absolute facts! NEVER! Religion, however, DOES! Your video is a joke.
well spoken :)

Separate church and state good.

First of all, I know this is a matter of opinionation but "right" and "wrong" are all a matter of perspective. Secondly, and more importantly, MATH IS LOGIC and science is that logic applied to the empirical senses. Ahh and then at 3:00 you redeemed yourself.

BTW my instinct is not to worry about saving christians from the myth of god but my morality forces me to educate those such as yourself to the faslehood of your beliefs.
psychicpriest 5 months ago
The corrupt part of religion is the lying and control factor of it all. Being black is not a choice- buying a lie is a choice. Being homosexual is not a choice, buying the fraud of religion is a choice. god and the bible are not a truth- they are a myth, fiction and are a detriment to our society. All of your rant in no way proves your belief in god. Morals are not owned by religion. Atheism is not faith based it is fact based. Belief in god is faith based.
psychicpriest 5 months ago
@psychicpriest Religion becomes corrupted only by the hands of men. The religion preaches "Love thy neighbor as thyself." It does NOT teach "Love thy neighbor as thyself, unless he's black, jewish, atheist, homosexual, or different from you in any way." The KKK warped it to say stuff like that. Do you believe all Christians are KKK members? Well we're not. In fact, we despise the image given to us by them. The same is true of most muslims: they despise terrorists for the bad name they give them.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@AshkenazimJude Simple: Because it is not true. And it's not that he said it, it's WHO he said it about. Saying all Christians have bad morals IS like saying all black people have bad morals. Or, better yet, it's like saying all WHITE people have bad morals. Or like she said, saying all atheists have bad morals. It is simply not true.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
christianity has fuck all to do with morality.why it even claims it has is nuts.morality is like the law.its natural to preserve your species, thats why we have it.
also,it depends on what culture you are in,some things in africa etc would be morally wrong but over there, its fine.
and hey,its up to you to prove the existence of god,its called "the burden of proof".
and dont talk about "open minds" when you clearly dont have one,we have evidence on the contrary of god and evidence for evolution
1984LizardKing 5 months ago
@1984LizardKing Evidence contrary to God? Let me see this evidence. I have seen much of what people call evidence, only to find the hole in their logic. Indeed, most of the best scientists in the world admit that the fossil record has holes so large that they can't be denied or explained. Even experts say the likelihood of evolution explaining all of earth's creatures is similar to someone shaking a jar full of pennies and having them all land heads-up in a neat stack in chronological order.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy who told you that, kent hovind? evolution is a fact of life, get over it.
but all religious hypothesis is able to do is point out small flaws in Scientific Theories.turning that around, science has proven so much of the bible to be false that the credibility of the remaining material is virtually nothing. if you believe some eternal magic man to be responsible for our design and welfare, then you are a fool and your god is an incompetent fool for being such a bad designer
1984LizardKing 5 months ago
@1984LizardKing Bad designer? That comment BEGS an explanation, because I haven't seen any flaws in the creation yet. I've seen plenty that I don't like, but that's MY problem, not a problem with existence or the world. So prove your "bad designer" and "incompetent fool" comments. And yes, in this case the 'burden of proof' is on you, because you made those comments, not me.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy of course "god" is a bad designer, cancer, all sorts of diseases, the state of the world,he creates future suffering as he knows everything that will ever be.the universe is a bad design to,andromeda is heading our way, which will destroy all life.comets whizzing around, asteroids, gamma rays, quasars.the universe,if created is adangerous creation, not a perfect creation as you say.

The story of King David for example.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy and god is incompetant, heres one explanation.he has all the power in the world yet he cant correct his own mistakes? what is perfect cannot become imperfect, so humans must have been created imperfect. what is perfect cannot create anything imperfect, so god must be imperfect to have created these imperfect humans. a perfect god who creates imperfect humans is impossible
1984LizardKing 5 months ago
@1984LizardKing Post B: Who says God's creation isn't perfect just the way it is? Perhaps there is a REASON why things work the way they do, and you just can't understand. (continued)
robroyoldboy 5 months ago

If you're living in a tribal society these norms might be different to if you live in a big city, but within an environment one can judge morals in reference to how well they achieve the agreed ends of morality.

you are your own moral authority, especially when you consider the christian god
1984LizardKing 5 months ago
@1984LizardKing So... If you are your own morality, then killing someone who insults you is ok. Killing a woman who won't sleep with you is ok. oppressing someone is ok... That's where tyranny comes from. On the other hand, God's laws (Also known as the ten commandments), specifically 6-10, forbid the behaviors that are central to tyranny and oppression. And yet I hear atheists claim that the bible leads to such things. How? Please explain, because I still haven't found it.

1984LizardKing 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy and neither is religious morality: there is disagreement within and between religions over interpretation of morality. this disagreement is ultimately arbitrated by humans, and we come to agreement over how to behave. secular morality is no different in this respect.

@1984LizardKing odds in nature that a species will evolve into an intelligent life-form at JUST the perfect time to be able to observe perfect solar eclipses? Any sooner and the moon would be covering everything of the sun. Any later and the sun's disk would be visible from behind the moon. What are the odds? As I asked, how many 'coincidences' must there be before it becomes obvious that it was designed intelligently? No, I don't believe it was designed in 6 human days, but designed, yes.

There's no need to add God to that formula.
jabbe3001 5 months ago

@robroyoldboy I've read the bible however I have no deesire what so ever to findout exactly what verse it is and all that, it's mentioned in several different ways in the bible. Also you have to sell you'r daughters as slaves, and if any one works on a sunday you will have to stone them to death, and if your kids disobey you you will also have to stone them to death. are you telling me that you really believe that people should do all that?
eddson11 5 months ago
@eddson11 Mark 2:27: And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." That's just one counterpoint. You are speaking from the standpoint of the Pharisees, basically telling people "you must do this you must do that" to be a good religious person. Oddly enough, those are the very same people Jesus spent his whole life fighting against. In other words, no, I do NOT believe people should do all that, mainly because Jesus did not believe people should do all that.
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy how do you know what jesus did or thought? the bible is filled with riddles and on top of that it's translated. There is no way to know for sure what all the riddles mean, however the parts that are written clearly and straightforward is the "rules" and weird punnishments for breaking them. If you do believe, by all means do so, but don't trust that a book written hundreds of years ago by an unknown person in a dead language is telling the whole story nor the trouth.
eddson11 5 months ago
@eddson11 We know how Jesus thought mainly because his disciples wrote down their accounts of Him. What do you think the new testament is about? As for the rules and punishments in the old testament, that was from a much different time, and the people of God have changed. About the translation, we have MILLIONS of people who know Latin, Greek, and English and study the bible in all three. Don't you think THOUSANDS of them would be crying out if there was something wrong in translation?

@robroyoldboy ever heard of making chickens out of feathers? I do believe that jesus existed and that he "ressurected" but I think it's more likely that he didn't actually die, just went into a short term coma or something like that. and its like it is when one person tells another person who tells another person, In the end you might end up with something not even similar to the thing that was said from the beginning, or a really strong exalduration.
eddson11 5 months ago

I believe that religion was created by a person inorder to make people follow rules and act like humanbeeings.
eddson11 5 months ago
@eddson11 So Jesus happens to spend his life preaching that he's the son of God, he happens to fulfill all the prophecies in the Bible (over 300 of them actually), to include being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver and being crucified, then just as those same prophecies predicted, he goes to the cross 'dies' and happens to be this 'super human' who survives two punishments, each of which would kill a normal man. How many super unlikely coincidences must there be before it becomes something more?
robroyoldboy 5 months ago
@robroyoldboy as I said before noone in this time can truly say that everything in the bible is true nor that it ever happenned. Just like in greek mythology the ones who "communicated" with the gods where taking drugs to induce halucinations, now what is there to proove that the prophets from other religions aren't just like that?
eddson11 5 months ago

Atheism isn't faith based unless you're talking about 'strong / hard' atheists who say god definitely doesn't exist. Typically most atheists I've known or heard of are what I'd call agnostic atheists. To call that sort of atheism faith based is asinine. To echo a point commonly made: you wouldn't call NOT believing in fairies faith. Also, if you've actually read the Old Testament (Christians seem to ignore it) it is very homophobic, sexist, and racist.
jakebowkett01 6 months ago
You're obviously intelligent and educated, and I enjoyed your video. I don't think that Pat said religious people are all corrupt; rather he's saying that the morality of the Abrahamic faiths is a "bad" morality (cruel, petty, unjust, etc). The fact that you are not homophobic, for example, puts you at odds with the morality of the Bible which clearly is. So what you say is "wrong" is, according to religion, "right". You are tolerant based upon your reason, not your faith in Jesus.

Morality is a social contract. We identify behaviors that we believe are harmful to the individual or to society, and then ban those behaviors.
Weissnung 6 months ago

@gaarcemail Part 2- jump in the water and save the life of a person, right? This happens every day and I can't believe that if a god did exist, how can he not jump in to save that life? But we are talking about many lives and lets look at other factors poverty, emotional suffering, illnesses etc. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I had the power to stop it and didn't. Yet all it would take a god to change everything, is just to make himself present. To not do so is unjustifiable to me.
