I feel blessed that I got to see Quadraphenia performed in full before John passed away. Definetally a highlight in my life, right along with seeing Tommy live on Broadway, front row first balcony at the St.James Theater...
The reason why i picked up the Bass Guitar last year.. and now, Quadrophenia is more relevant to me (and i guess most of us) than ever! The way of life! :-)
The thing - among others - that I like about Helpless Dancer is how each line comes out of alternating speakers. It's Rogers theme (that facet of Jimmy's personality) but it also speaks of a possible split even within that facet. Like he's talking to himself or using two voices at once. Or something.
@RockRevivalist Probably don't need to have this pointed out, but in the story, Jimmy goes to see The Who and the use of TKAA is meant to be the band's performance.
I truely, honestly believe this is The Who's best album, better than Tommy, and one of the best in rock history. The arrengements, lyrics, playing, virtuosism, orchestra, everything is the highest point The Who has been. Totally underrated. It's like The Beatles: people only talk about Sergeant Pepper when Abby Road is way better. The fist time I heard Quadrophenia it was the same time I understood what the Opera Rock concept really meant.
Dude, I thought I posted this comment when I read it, I said almost the exact same thing a while ago... This is better then Tommy, Who's Next, etc. This is a true Who masterpiece, it truly is often overlooked and under TOMMY's shadow. But, I kinda like it that way... it kinda makes me appreciate it more. Sometimes the gems are under the almost as pretty beads :).
Went to watch the amazing Quadrophenia concert live in manchester and now i'm off to watch the musical stage version in blackpool in july.....Long live the who
I agree, i have been going through alot of "teen angst" but when I put in this album, wow! it helps alot.. that's why the who is my favorite band of all time!
Umm no it actually doesn't. When I make my vids, I make the slides that tell when the song starts, aligned with the song track. So I start it right when it starts. How does it start at 4:58? The song already began like 20 seconds before that, wtf are you talking about?
Is that riff from "The Rock" the "Helpless Dancer" theme?

That's an easy one, lol. It's called 'The Kids are Alright' by The Who, coincidentally.
When I first heard The Kids are Alright, I thought to myself that it definitely sounds Beatle-esque. Haha.

I've stopped dancing. "Is it me, for a moment?" "For a moment?" My favorite track on the record.

It's shockingly simple for a song that manages to convey so many emotions.
