  • Do you think a 25-37mm ring would work?

  • i have this lens is it able to e turned into a fisheye by flipping the lens?

  • do you think i could attach a baby death lens to it

  • its going to fall off evry like 4 months i did it ti my othor camra

  • @isk8nikez Camera is still in tact just the way he left it, and its been over a year ago guess just good luck! Thanks Hathcocked's Mom

  • same tri pod!

  • what kind of camera are you using to make this video?

  • Does it make the camera heavy? Thanks

  • Buy the Magnetic Lens .....No glue!

  • @TopGear6666 They didn't exist at the time I made this.

  • @hathcocked Yes they did I'm afraid, they're around since early 2009, there's a video up here from March 2009 you probably didn't know about them.

    =6sY7gYl45EA

  • @hathcocked More like you didn't know about them when you made this.

  • @TopGear6666 Whats the name of that magnetic lens? Where could i possibly find it? could it be used on the Flip Ultra Hd 3rd gen? Thank you!

  • @filicheese718 Hi filicheese They're made by Bower look up (Wide Angle Magnetic Lens for Flip Video ULTRA MINO) in google, ebay or amazon they're cheap enough and work a treat, there are a few vids of them on youtube too

  • @TopGear6666

Magnetic lens? Where do you get that?

  • @TopGear6666

They don't make a kit for a macro lens, only a wide angle lens kit as far as I can tell. AND, it's $35 or $40 bucks as opposed to $20.

  • ya can we see a test vid?

  • @forrealee If you check my other videos I have one, tele and wide angle test video. Also every video I have made in the last year has used the wide angle lens and depending on what I'm doing the macro lens.

  • @hathcocked oh sweet thanks, i'll check em out.

  • test video?

  • @bakonfreek I have one in my other videos, I posted it as a response to this video.

  • @hathcocked WTF I have The Same Tripod and the same Camera

  • can you open that .5x wide angle and flip the lens to make a fisheye?

  • @BsbllUH11C It looks like it might have 2 index notches on the edge of the lens that might be for a tool to take it out but I'm not sure to be honest.

  • Do u mean step up ring

  • So it makes the camera HD? Even if it's not the HD camera?

  • @1zacster nope.

the camera is HD but the lens is a wide angle lens which means you can fit more in the shot.

  • @1zacster no

  • Thnx that was really helpful

  • @pepekwan No problem, glad to be of service.

  • looks fcukin tits.

  • @newbutthunt Thanks man!

  • Since that 30.5-37mm step up ring will be glued, what lenses (brand or type) will I be limited to?

  • Since that 30.5mm -37mm will be glued on, how many, or what type/brand of lenses could be put on?

  • i did the hack and shaked and then the lens and step up ring ripped off any tips? have you had any problems too?

  • @MmmmmmmmmmmmmmmTASTY Mine is still solid a year later and I use it all the time. I used gorilla glue on mine because I wanted it solid and didn't care about the appearance. If you try it again make sure both surfaces you are mating together are clean, maybe use an alcohol wipe on them. I lightly sanded the bottom of my step ring a bit to get the max amount of adhesion. Good luck, I hope you get it fixed.

  • I did the same mod on my Zi8 and also messed up with the glue. I had the camera covered with tape, but still found a way to get a tiny bit of epoxy on the top of the camera. Although, just like you stated, it's not a problem when you have a giant lens sticking out, lol. This mod makes a world of difference (the macro especially).

  • @Treasurefan02 Cool! It's always interesting to hear from people who have modded other cameras. Yeah that damn glue will find a way to land where you don't want it lol. Glad to hear the mod is working well for you, it really adds a lot of versatility to these little cameras. Thanks for watching!

  • looks so sick dude

  • Which lens model did you buy? Did it come with the Step-up ring?

  • @hamzaj123

I got the 37mm kenko wide angle/telephoto kit and the lensbaby 37mm macro kit from amazon. No it didn't come with the ring.

  • if you want to put a lens on a flip (if you skate gtfo) and i dont know why im watching this.. but put a 37mm spacer ring around it not a step up. spacer = filter with glass punched out use that so the 2 will be flush, making less vignetting (for dumbasses, its the black things on the corners of vids that make it cirle like)

  • I was orginally thinking of getting a camcorder not like a flip but now that ive seen all these cool things im thinking of just getting it instead of a 300 $ Standard Definition when i can get a 100$ HD camcorder with a fisheye mod!

  • @MrLemonnade It definitely improves the usefulness of the camera. The major drawback to the flip is the lack of a movable screen. I am thinking of upgrading when I can afford it to make doing tabletop reviews easier. Being able to see what is in frame while you are filming is in my opinion priceless.

  • @hathcocked i really just want this to test out editing softwares and just hangin out with my friends longboard and skateboard so its all just really for fun. I was just looking for an HD camera and i found this one and i thought its cheap and portable. And a question Which is better Flip ultra HD or Flip Mino HD?

  • @MrLemonnade The Ultra uses rechargeable double a batteries, records twice as long and has slightly better video quality then the Mino. However the Mino is about half the size and much lighter then the Ultra. If the larger size doesn't bother you I would go with the Ultra.

  • @hathcocked But if i do this mod on it i wont be able to get to the batteries thats why i think i might velcro it. but i dont have really care if i have to charge it on the compuer.

  • Wait would 37mm lens fist a ultra hd?

  • @ThEsKaTeR521 As long as the step ring fits around the ultra's lens and sits flat it should. I haven't tried it on an ultra so I can't say for sure.

  • @ThEsKaTeR521 yep, you just need the "30.5mm-37mm step up ring" sold on eBay for like $2.50 and get any 0.45x or "0.5x 37mm wide angle lens". You can always slap on various filters like circular polarizer to get some dramatic blue sky effect, etc. Cheap but works!

  • @hathcocked thx for answering just trying to find a wide angle or fisheye for a skate vid

  • Would a sunpak 0.5x wide angle lens fit with a step-up ring?

  • @ThEsKaTeR521 As long as it's 37 mm it should fit fine.

  • Hey what type of fisheye is that? Is it a kenko 0.43x fisheye?

  • @ThEsKaTeR521 That's a kenko 0.5x wide angle.

  • can you do this kind of mod to any camcorder like the sanyo xacti vpc zh1r im barely starting to film so if you can help me please awnser

  • @TheNicoSkates As long as they have a fixed lens that doesn't extend in anyway and you can line it up with the adaptor it should work. I don't have any experience trying it with any other model though. If I had it to do over I would just buy a better camera in the first place. It's still working fine for me though.

  • @hathcocked thanks man

  • I spied a CoolerMaster PSU box back there. You are obviously a man of discerning tastes. Must be why we both own this camera.

  • @ascrane Hah! I think that was the box for my Coolermaster 590 Centurion case. They make great products.

  • why did you sand it? and whats the lens called?

  • @ktownskates I sanded it to improve the adhesion of the two parts, it might not be necessary but it is holding solid to this day a year later. The lens is a 37mm kenko wide angle.

  • haha that looks fucking insane! in a good way

  • @valetdabess Thanks!

  • Good job.

  • @Judysea1 Thanks!

  • has anyone tried puttin an opteka lens on the flip lol i wonder howd it wuld work?

  • @Li1Jay0795 As long as it fits on the step ring

and is centered over the flip lens it should work.

  • can this be done with the 2nd gen mino?

  • I have never handled one of the second gen's in person so I can't say for sure. As long as the adaptor ring will sit fairly flush it should work.

  • I need to mod a flip cuz I broke the lens. Any tips on how to replace the lens?

    Thanks!

  • I think in the end it would probably more expensive to try and fix it then just replace it outright. You could go to the flip site and put in a repair request inquiry and see how much they would want to replace it. Good luck!

  • Im guessing ur talking about the actual Lens cover craked .. you can remove that lens cover and do this same Mod just slightly pry up the chrome like ring around it using your finger nail and do the same with the glass lens cover ..

  • Damn...amazing!

  • i love toast.

  • @Listentojoe my gamertag is zac likes pie, was i like toas i like buttered toast, i like pie, zac likes pie =D

(was satching ed edd n eddy)

  • uhh were do u find step down rings??

  • I bought everything from amazon. Just put "30.5-37mm step up ring" in amazon's search function.

  • google it and go to shopping..... they run from 70 cents to 60 dollors

  • hey what are you using to record this?

  • I was using my old Sony DSC-P10.

  • wow. ok sorry. stupid moment. thanks for the video! *eh heh*

  • lol no problem.

  • I'm buying my Flip Ultra HD now and I'm gonna do this. I know you've explained this, but would you mind just listing what I need to buy? A little confused with all of the lens sizes being thrown around...

  • If you google "Flip MinoHD Wide Angle Lens Hack" the first link that comes up explains the whole process of doing the mod in detail.

    I used:

    Sandpaper

    Superglue/gorilla glue

    30.5-37mm step up ring

    37mm lens of choice

I got the 37mm kenko wide angle/telephoto kit and the lensbaby 37mm macro kit from amazon.

  • Thank ya sir. n_n

  • No problem!

  • could you please show what the video looks like with the lense vs. without?

  • doesnt it affect the the speakers and the micro phone cuz it looks like they are right where u glue it

  • I can't tell any diferrence in audio quality pre mod to post mod.

  • What size step up lens

  • 37mm for the lens, 30.5mm for the adaptor ring.

  • what is that stand u have it on and does it work on the ipod nano 5g

  • Its a GorillaPod. They are flexible tripods for cameras and camcorders. I don't think the IPOD has a tripod mount hole so I would say no it doesn't.

  • can you make a test video

  • I did if you check my videos. It's called "Tele and Wide angle lens test".

  • thanks

  • @michaelAKAmiguel did u see that on soldierknowsbest 5g nano vid :D

  • hey I just have a few questions: how is it's durability? will the super glue really hold? are the lenses heavy? will the step ring/lens come off if the camera is dropped or hit? will soldering the ring onto the camera be better?

I really want to try out this mod but I am not sure yet since the sound of just using glue to secure and hold the lenses is odd for me and I can't trust it. please reply. :)

  • Mine is still holding up fine. I did use gorilla glue which is much stronger then regular super glue. Also I don't care what it looks like so I after an initial set I went around the outside of the ring building up a layer of glue. It feels extremely solid and I have dropped mine once with a lens on and it did not come off. The lenses are not very heavy, it's supported fine by my small gorilla pod. I am not sure if soldering would be possible.

  • thanks for the reply. I just want to make sure that the lens/ring stay securely on the camera. I'm planning to use the camera for some rough activities and with the lens sticking out, I was afraid that it would come off if its dropped or hit pretty bad.

I'm still a bit suspicious on using just superglue though, I might have to hunt for something stronger. but its good to know that superglue would be enough. thanks again! :)

  • No problem, good luck!

  • correct me if im mistaken but isnt 30.5 to 37 a step up ring?

    because its 30 1/2 to 37

  • Yes you are correct. That was the way it was referred to when I first researched this mod and I didn't realize it was the incorrect term. It is in fact a step up ring.

  • can I order these lenses on amazon?

  • Yes you can.

  • macro as in like up close stuff? cool man can't wait to get mine and hack it. where do you get your stuff. I might have to talk to you later for more info on this fisheye stuff. :)

  • Yep macro is for close up work. I picked up the adapter and the lens kits on amazon. If you have any questions just shoot me a PM when you get ready to mod yours.

  • Cool thanks for being helpful! Can't wait to talk in the future.

  • were u able to focus closer using the wide angle?

  • did the super glue held up the ring well?

  • It's still working fine for me, haven't had any issues with it.

  • which macro lens did you buy?

  • I bought the lens baby macro kit from amazon, it has a +10 and +4.

  • Great video man - love to see other YouTubers aren't afraid to mod their cameras.

  • Thanks. If something doesn't work the way I want it too I am not opposed to beating it into submission lol.

  • That's the best way to be!

  • why dont you just buy a real camcorder? lol ( dont take this as offensive )

  • Because this fits in my pocket and I forget it's there. When I need the extra lenses they are in my bag.

  • I will, thanks

  • Okay, I will work with it. I also looked into the Tiffen filter lenses that come in a kit, a good one is the one that filters outthe flourescenr lights and I love the polarizer.

  • Yeah, once you get the ring in place it opens up a world of lens/filter accessories. Let me know how the mod goes.

  • Do you think this mod will work on a Flip UltraHD?

  • They are very similar so I don't see why not.

  • Thanks, I purcahsed the adapters and lenses but have not glued them in. The camera shop said it was a step up adapter. Anyway, when I put the lens in from of the Flip ther is a visible ring around the edges and the Flip lens sticks out, don't know if it the same as on the Mino. There is hardly enough surface to glue.

  • Because of the raised edge around the flip's lens it's a bit finicky to get on there well. As long as the ring itself is centered over the flips lens it should be fine. I lightly glued mine in place and let it harden then went back later and built up some glue around the outside edge of the adapter. I don't care about appearance though just strength. Obviously do some video tests just holding it in place before you commit. Good luck.

  • id does but you need to get a bigger wide angle lens

or youll get black corners because the lens on the ultra is bigger

or atleast thats what im thinking

  • thanks for showing this ....I've been contemplating modding my MinoHD, but am afraid i'll mess it up :(

  • Yeah it is a bit scary to do but if you take your time you should be ok. The most important part is keeping glue away from the lens. That is a mistake you can't take back.

  • thanks for the tip :)

  • Thanks for the update, i wanted to check out how that looked.. Once i get some extra dough deffenetly going to upgrade cameras and get a try pod. I saw Pod you have but i dont think that it would be tall enough the the applications i would need it for. thanks for the vid keep em coming!

  • Yeah the "original" size gorilla pod is a bit small but I mostly use it outdoors. Works great to wrap around tree branches and anything else you can think of. It doesn't replace a full size tripod though.

  • Awesome dude. I can't wait to do mine. You get so much more functionality/capability by doing this mod.

Take care and thank-you very much...
