  • wait a minute i didnt know you lived in maine! what part if you dont mind me asking

  • @iHaveOneArm I live in Bath, right on Merry meeting Bay. Are yu familiar with the area? Thanks for watching!

  • @cmtoy not entirely but i live in the piscataquis region so thats semi close ha

thanks for making videos to watch!

  • I never knew sap ran that quickly. Thanks for all of the videos, they were loads of fun to watch and learn from.

  • @LadyTonna Pretty cool eh? Glad you enjoy them. Thanks for watching!

  • i'd tap that

  • @stroock6394 Too late! I already did. You'll have to wait til next spring. Thanks for watching!

  • @cmtoy how long after you put the maple syrup into the jars does it take to thicken

  • @ChickenFlatbread Good question! The syrup isn't put into the jars until it has been thickened by boiling offf the excess water in the sap. It takes a long time to boil off the water to make the sap. The amount of time depends on how much heat you can get to get the sap boiling, and how much sap you have to boil. Thanks for watching, and for asking!

  • my god u seem like u have a rly layed bak life i hope i will be able to do this one day

  • @BoogieManVids Life is good!

  • How interesting!! Love the video!!!

  • @tubbyting Glad you loved it! Thanks for watching!

  • Very interesting and cool! Please keep making videos like that, they are awesome. Thanks!

    PS: What a beautiful place....

  • @Serotis It is cool! And very tasty. This has been a great spring for making maple syrup. Thanks for watching!

  • can drilling that into the tree kill it?

  • @jjsmithlala2 Great question! It doesn't seem to hurt the tree. I think it's kind of like when we give blood. If the tree is old enough, healthy, and we don't take too much the tree is OK. I've been making maple syrup for ten years from the same trees and they are still growing! Thanks for asking and for watching!

  • @jjsmithlala2 We had more snow today...the second day of spring. Fortunately, we also boiled some more maple syrup! Next Sunday is Maine Maple Syrup Sunday!

  • @cmtoy i wish i had snow . i live in the pacifics. so its horrible . no snow . just rain , rain , and MORE rain ): . wow you guys are lucky that you can make maple syrup. i dont live in maine :P but is it possible to do this on diff. tree?

  • @jjsmithlala2 I know that folks do boil sap in the Pacific Northwest. Are you in the south?

  • @cmtoy i dont know o: california

  • @jjsmithlala2 So it seems you CAN make maple syrup in California! There's a Maple there called Big Leaf Maple. If I were in California, I' d be looking for Big Leaf Maples! Do maples lose their leaves in California?

  • @cmtoy hm.. im not so sure, i'll check it out and let you know! :3

  • @cmtoy Ohhh. psht. i knew that (: . thanks for the answer and explanation :3 . your welcome (= btw, is this possible on a different tree? im just curious . :D

  • interesting!

  • @lesliejs ...and tasty! Thanks for watching!

  • This was really really cool! Thanks! :)

  • @GeekNerdDweeb Yes! It is cool, and the sap is still running (snow in Maine today and tomorrow) So I'm still boiling. Next Sunday is Maine Maple Syrup Day! Thanks for watching!

  • I wish I had a maple tree.

  • @millionsteve *chuckle* You'd need about 24 trees to get enough sap for syrup! Thanks for watching!

  • @cmtoy what if you drilled several holes for the pipes at different levels in a single tree?

  • @BradBuddy1212 You would want to be careful about how many holes and where you drilled them. You want only one tap (hole) for every 10 inches in diameter. the holes should not line up with one another. The sap flows from the capillaries running straight up the trunk. So if you tap into them at one point, there won't be as much flowing up above where you tapped down below. Make sense? Thanks for watching!

  • That is so neat!!

  • @NYJanus It is pretty amazing what nature can provide eh? Thanks for watching!

  • SWEET!

  • @palomino13 Exactly...very sweet! Thanks for watching!

  • Wow, this looks like fun. I'll have to try it some day. Good video :)

  • @AlderDragon It is fun! Maybe next year? Thanks for watching!

  • Ooouch! You're hurting the tree and it's bleeding :*(

I'm kidding.I read about processes of making maple syrup when I was a kid. I'm so glad that now I'm watching it in real acts....Awesome!! I wish I would have a chance to experience that once.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • @LIVELISTENLAUGHLOVE Yeah...sometimes I feel like a tree vampire...but it doesn't seem to bother them, they still get leaves in the summer and turn bright red in the fall! And the syrup is sooooo good on ice cream! Thanks for watching!

  • Your vids are so unpredictable and surprising. They are quite informative, but I'm still able to enjoy them. You have done good presentation there. I knew you're an intelligent person since the first vid I watched (Ramen noodle).

Hey...how much astonish me for the next video?...No pressure though lol.

BTW, Thanks for all your impressive work.

  • @LIVELISTENLAUGHLOVE I'm pleased you enjoy them! I appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks for watching!

  • :o! Cool video! thanks for uploading it :)

  • @crazypsychopersonx You're welcome and thanks for watching!

  • so its possible to make this on a stove at home? I don't have one of those big boiling pots outside

  • @NadrianATRS DO NOT boil sap indoors! You'd be putting gallons of moisture in the air of your house. The moisture will condense everywhere and steam the paint and wall paper off your walls. Plus the boiling sap is very sticky and will get everywhere. You can do the last part indoors when you're down to the last hour or so of boiling the syrup. Look around at flea markets or secondhand shops for the big pots. You can pick one up for a few dollars. Thanks for watching!

  • That's funny. I have that exact same coffee filter. It came from a Delonghi coffee maker. I kept it and use it for all kinds of miscellaneous jobs from dusting powder sugar to straining the elixir from my french press, even cleaning the bits out of a fresh cooked stock. Always good to recycle. Thanks for the video!

  • @aybesee123 Yes! It's good to recycle and repurpose old stuff. Thanks for watching!

  • Your videos are getting more and more fun to watch!

  • @claudiastrauss And I am having more and more fun doing them! Glad you're having fun! Thanks for watching!

  • How long does it take for a jug to fill?

How many jugs can you put on one tree (and would the amount affect the time it takes to fill)?

    Thanks

  • @tommie314101 The time varies with the tree, it's location, and the temperature difference. I've gotten as much as gallon of sap in 14 hours from a tree, and as little as 1/4 Gallon in the same 24 hour period. Taps on the south side of trees seem to flow better, maybe because of the sun's warmth. The colder it is at night the faster the sap runs on a warm sunny day. You can put one tap for every 10 inches of diameter of the tree. Thanks for watching!

  • Looks good. I wish we had maple trees in texas!

  • @StoneTX3 You're out of luck I guess. You do have great BBQ though! Thanks for watching.

  • @cmtoy haha yes, yes we do :)
