  • Can't be long now....

    Where is my pandora.

    I want it so bad...

  • what song is that? its nice!

  • Comment removed

  • the Pandora's CPU is very low-power. AFAIK all the boards have been solid-state / no moving parts / whatever you want to call it.

  • That would be Kick ass to play Half-Life 1 on.

  • It would be, but it's not happening unless Valve releases the source or ports it themselves.. :(

  • woow I hope we can emulate dreamcast games on it, it wwould be great! ;-)

  • the ds has One 67 MHz ARM946E-S and one 33 MHz ARM7TDMI while the pandora has 600 MHz OMAP3530 ARM Cortex-A8 (32 Bit) and

430 MHz TMS320C64x+ DSP Core, NEON & TRADE SIMD coprocessor also the pandora can be overclocked from 600 MHZ to 900Mhz.

  • Question: since it's ARMed like the NDS, does this mean that it could emulate the NDS quickly if a proper emulator was made for it (since few to no processor instructions would have to be translated)?

  • It might be hard because the DS has two processors working in sync, and multiple processors are an issue for emulators.

Someone will try, but there's no guarantees on whether it will ever run full-speed.

  • Oh - you're right, I completely forgot that the DS has two processors. Still, it sounds a bit more feasible than with an x86 processor. Thanks for the info.

  • Impressive. I'm a PSP fan and I still have to say impressive. I hope it's released soon and in the shops. I don't want to have to go to some back alley website to buy it.

  • Haha, you'll never find the Start button.

  • pleaase tell me it takes normal batteries we can get in a store? and not those rechargeable ones we have to be at the mercy of its life.. gulp

  • It has a regular off-the-shelf li-ion battery.

  • Better! It has a lithium polymer battery that lasts QUOTE 10 hours END QUOTE [read: 7 hours] with normal usage.

however, since it's open-source and not a silly Apple piece of junk, you can just buy a new battery whenever you feel like it. Like magic.

  • Yeah, but can it play Doo--*mauled*

In all seriousness, I think I'm asking for one for Christmas. It's weird. At first, I was hyped, Then the hype died. I dunno, probably cuz since I wasn't checking the forums, I thought the project died. But I can clearly see it's not, and me want-y.

  • Can you make a better one?

  • Unimpressed? Seriously? Even though it's the size of a DS but at least three times as powerful and it can run tons more?

  • the processor speed on the DS is very low, so pandora is alot more than 3x the DS.. in Processor speed anyway, dunno about 3d speed.

Direct processor speed comparison from PSP 366mhz - 600mhz of the pandora so pandora is almost twice as quick and 2 and a half times quicker if the clock is set to 900mhz.

  • I don't know if clock speeds are an accurate judge of processing power, especially on such small systems.

And one might need much more power than that to emulate the DS, since ... since I lost my train of thought. Well, you know - Since it's emulated.

  • Note: The PSP clockspeed is 266mhz with a maximum of 333mhz.

  • *drool* Can't wait to get one of these babies in my hands.

did you come from pandora newsletter email link?

    GREAT NEWS!

  • I'm loving the choice of music.

    Looks pretty sweet.

  • typing in commands? aww thats no fun :(

  • That's only dev version of Pandora.

    So,don't worry,if you don't like powerfull command-line shell (bash)... ;-)

  • whats the awesome music??

  • run quake 3
