I grew up with this movie! It was one of my favourite movies when I was 7. I think my mum wanted me to be a corporate yet strong and independent woman :D
Thanks for uploading this...netflix has it only on dvd rental (i have the online streaming) and it's no where else but here! i do love this movie...made me appreciate the balance between home and career
Felt like a feel-good movie to watch in the week before Christmas and although I had seen Baby Boom before - it was more charming than before and fit the bill perfectly as a Festive season movie... Thank you so very much for the upload! Merry Xmas 2010 to all!! lynlondon : ))
I love New England films, Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine etc..."Newhart" was a great tv series, funny...what other films have that New England backdrop? (witches of eastwick/cider house rules...) ...anyone, Bueller???
This movie is just so sweet and uplifting. My favorite Diane Keaton movie. We did have a reunion later, but I gave up a child for adoption and although i was his birth mother hid adopted mother was his MOTHER. I so get it. She raised him - i didn't. Does not mean I didn't love him - I loved him so much I wanbted him to have more than I could i give him. That message comes through to me in this movie - the ultimate sacrifices. I KNOW I made the right choice for both of us/
I saw this movie when it first came out and have seen it many, many times since. I am adopted and love how JC had come to love Elizabeth. I named my cat Elizabeth when she was a kitten years. ago
J.C.'s monologe from 0:05 - 1:40 is very heartfelt and genuie, and actually very true when you think about it. Why SHOULD she have to sacrifice her personal life, just because she is a woman I mean, what are we inthe 1950s or something? lol!
one of my friends works for a bank and she had to return to work 6 weeks after the birth. her baby stays with another woman for most of the day (which she pays for of course) - she had to wean the baby early on coz she can't nurse during work hours.
if I get married and have kids, I hope my husband earns enough to let me stay at home as long as our kid is a baby. when it's old enough for kindergarden, I'll gladly rejoin the workforce. ;) but I know I just couldn't hand over my baby to anyone.
Oh that movie was good. I remember watching that on HBO like a hundred times when I was a kid. Probably a CIA psy-ops engineering society, but who cares. Classic flic.
I watched this movie 5-6 years ago and I've never remembered the name and after numerous searches, I've finally found it, Thank you for this upload, I've missed watching how a woman can choose and attain her goals
That's a misunderstanding of feminism. Feminism is the belief that women should be given choices. J.C. is given the choice to return to her former career and chooses her own company & rural life instead. The fact J.C. starts her own successful business & intends to continue that business shows how successful the feminist movement has been. Without the feminism J.C. would never have been allowed to run her own business in the first place.
Because of the redemptive quality the baby brings to the lady by being in her life. The way the lady was brave enough to admit what she really wanted and accept it when it was right there, a family and to be a mother and homemakers. A femenist view might say that this is societies way of controlling womens fates, that the lady should in the end want the whole life as opposed to being a career woman.
You make a very good point. I think that what happens in this film is that is comes down to priorities and that for JC they changed and she was honest about it and accepted it.
