  • I don't see it... Community colleges aren't doing squat for their students. I dropped out of community college because I'm just getting pushed away from this dream. I guess an honors student with a 3.45 GPA, nearly enough units to transfer, and who's in Phi Theta Kappa honors society is meant to be weeded out of the education system.

  • @shadowroush714 What do you mean by pushing you away? How do you make honors with a 3.45?

  • @movcrit Major loss in classes due to budget cuts. I understand that some of the more popular science and math classes required to transfer are filled up quickly, but even some of my fellow peers on campus are struggling to get GE classes. As for being in the honors program, the requirement for the community college I attended required a minimum of a 3.25 GPA to be qualified.

  • @shadowroush714 What exactly is your complaint? You are having trouble transfering your credits?

  • @bherber Not so much transferring units, more like getting the classes required to meet prerequisites for transferring. Some courses aren't even offered some semesters anymore and they are only offered during one semester each year. That technically means a student might have to stay an additional year at a community college before they can actually get an opportunity to transfer to a 4 year. For math and science majors, this additional time can add up in the long run.

  • @shadowroush714 I know it might not be practical, but try shopping around. Another institution in your area may have the course that semester. Or, speak to the dean or head of department, or registrar to see if perhaps you would be able to do an independent study to complete that course. Quite often a professor will give you assignments and allow you to work independently to earn credits for that course. Remember you're paying tuition so they should at least make an effort.

  • @shadowroush714 Universities are doing less. Far too many grads, they're opening doors to way too many students, it's WAY too easy to get into university. Something needs to change in the education system. The "American Dream" is dead.

  • Very interesting.
