When my parents , who make $40,000 a year on the ranch, die, I would like to continue the ranching operation because I feel tied to the land and way of life, only, I'll owe an extreme amount in taxes. Yea you have a high corporate tax, the U.S is alot different then Canada, Germany, Swiss, etc...In the Sense that the corporate tax rate is about 25-35% lower but they have higher sales taxes and higher income tax. This keeps jobs locally and adds a fairer tax IMO, because the more money you earn and the more goodies you buy, the more taxes you will pay.

@OhioDemocrat -you're right - when they say a $5 million exemption it's really more like $25 million w/ loopholes.Husband & wife both get $5 mil, so you've $10 mil & then real estate, particularly farm & ranch property, is valued at 1/10th of market value or less, & although gifts are limited to around $12k per yr by having a trust where you convey undivided interests w/ restrictions you can get more than $150k per kid per yr - etc.

Money is almost always taxed when it changes hands. I am taxed on my job earnings. If I pay someone to do a job for me, that money is taxed again as income for them.
