Led Zeppelin was one of the greatest rock bands. But they stole a few Willie Dixon songs in their first three albums. The more famous: "Whole lotta love" first recorded by Muddy Waters and "Bring it on home" first recorded by Sonny Boy Williamson II. Willie Dixon had lawyers, went to Court and the Zep boys had to pay for their "free adaptations of his (Dixon) material". The payed a lot lot of money in a off court agreement. It was justice being made.
The first song is Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump." Walter's song list always included this on every show I did with him the 1970's; he was remarkably consistent. Today, I and thousands of other harpists play this song because of Big Walter.
The amazing thing is that he plays from the heart ... each note is from the heart ... he sticks to nothing ... he just play the bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuues !!!
there's only one word for these kind of sounds : original, unique. These people can teach any musician of today and before you can reach them, the're already ahead of you !
@MrSugarharp Sweet! So many of these great blues legends recorded in Copenhagen in those years. I live there (here) now, but unfortunately, I was born a couple years late for this gig :(
@aerosmythe Well Jimi was from America, and grew up listening to the blues, while Clapton, Page, and Townshend had to learn it from records rather than being able to go to the nearest juke joint to listen to it, so I guess Jimi had a bit of a head start to take it to a different place since it was basically in his blood from early childhood :)
Anybody know where this is available,i know its afbf stuff but its not on the recent dvds, there just has to be another dvd of afbf [please "reelin in the years"] of as yet not released material.ie this one, jb lenoir, chicago blues allstars, and more [if your into this you will know who i mean]...thankyou for reading this...
I love that, at 3:54, Big Walter uses the riff from Little Walter's "Juke". It's so great to see how the greats influenced one another, "comping" each others material to increase their own individual bag of tricks. Collaboration was more important that competition. Those were the days!
I believe thats the PA BW is using and he sounds like BW...ppl say the his hands made him...WRONG...they contribute but that wasnt it. Remember Sonny Boy Williamson II had very large hands like BW, but didnt sound alike. Its the play and these(BW & Sonny Boy II) are among my top favorites.
this is what i call Collared green blues major kick ass stuff Thank you so much for posting it!
