It's easier to find a decent AK variant. Even wasr10 take minimal smithing to fix said problems they are known for. You have to do your homework to fin a good tier 1 AR. Although I love my ARs and they are my go to gun any day. I would take any AK over a bottom barrel AR any day but my BCM is my gun.
mhh but the AK is a realy robust one more weapon in the wear parts such as switches and spring-run than the cartridge chamber and the lower economic and the AR15 had more moving parts that can break down
The breakdown of the AK was not complete. Gas tube is removable also. And comparing repair options is apples to oranges in this case, since an AK is design to be ran over with a truck, wedged in mud or sand, or dropped in a river, or all the above, and still function after a rack-tap and shake. I love a good AR but it doesn't compare to an AK in terms of reliability.
On the flip side - If I had to choose one to carry along w/ sufficient ammo, for long periods, AR would win out in the end.
As everyone says the AK-47 isn't going to break. At least anything that can't be fixed with a rock...lol. This makes it the definite SHTF weapon. I have both but I'll have to go with the AK when it gets serious. And yes, I shoot them both a lot. However my favorite rifle is my custom build Ruger 10-22 "tack driver".
I think its so funny reading all the chair borne ranger comments when AR vs AK comes up. Get both get some training on both and see which one you prefer I hate Glocks but for some reason I shoot them the best so I'm forced to buy a fucking Glock. The AR is just better set up end of story damn commies.
@sandrifter Yes I`m sure. I spent 6 years in the U.S. Army during the Cold War in Berlin I know the difference between an AK and a SKS. I also know the difference between an AK-47, AKM, AKR, AK-74, and a MAADI. What I own is technically a Chinese AKS 762. So it is part of the AK-47/ AKM family. The Chinese put folding bayonets under the barrels of their AKs when they started selling the semi versions here in the U.S. they kept up the practice.
@Jakerem870tac Just comparing the weapons not the likeliness of engagements. I misplaced my crystal ball so it's a little hard for me to tell the what kind of person may be viewing this video and where and what he might be using his rifle for. Your comment did not clearly speak solely to Civilians and since it is impossible for me to read you mind I had know way of knowing your comment's subject if it isn't stated.
@Fordfanforlife777 When Michale Kalashnikov invented the AK-46(in 1946) the first 10 were 5@ 7.62x39 and the last 5@ were .45 ACP. Only 1 .45 ACP AK-46 remains and sold at auction last year for a cool 1 Million dollars. AK/AR history's are available on Wiki and other sources. It's fun to learn. It also enables you to see smoke being blown.
while is it true that ak is more robust than the ar. ak does alot of damage due to its power; ak can be more reliable on the battle field than ar. on other hand. ar is much more accurate and less recoil than the ak. ar will get the job done, get you out of tight spot. just like he said ar can easily interchange part when it breaks down.
@Jakerem870tac Hit with it at what distance? 600 yards is about the max distance for man sized target shooting with an AR. How about an AK? Your not going to get 600 yards out of that gun. So if someone can't hit with an AK at 600 yards is it them or the AK? I agree recoil diffidence is negligible but the AR is easier to hold on target do to it high sights allowing a wrap around grip and inline recoil design.

I reconize that AK. That was the one you made from scratch with a blow torch. That is a plus with the AK. Some guy can make one with some sheet metal and a blow torch in his back yard, lol. Of course it is only good for a short while if you do that as you mentioned with that AK before. AR is a bit harder to make, lol.
@GunWebsites You can also shot the barrels out. I have seen some surplus rifles come in that are praticly smooth bores, lol. I wonder how many rounds it normally takes to do that.
@MrBfd0412 can't say i know all the tech. data but you can find it online somewhere.don't forget a cartridge's foot pounds can vary depending on the length of barrel, bullet weight, and powder used.generaly factory ammo uses a general powder to fit most barrels and of course bullet weights vary as you can see on the box,a faster burning powder or less powder would be used in a short barrel to complete the burn and reduce muzzle flash.that tech is mostly used by snipers, pro hunters, and competitors
personally, i think the AK and the AR are both the gods of firearms, but to truely understand who will come out is unclear. it all depends on the situation. you wouldnt use an SMG for long range would you? you dont use a bolt action for close quarter combat do you? simple fact is it comes down to the layout you prefer and what the situation is.
@joe2020jack That's inductive reasoning though, most likely it wont break but it still could, not anything against the AK at all just saying they can break
@Mrcaffinebean yeah no kidding especially with this design but if there were one that both collapsed and folded it might work or you just wouldn't be able to change on the fly small price to pay i think
As long as you get a good AK built to "sane" tolerances, and you have a comfortable stock on it, with the irons correctly set up and zero'd, I think an AK will surprise the majority of people.
Finding a good AK is about like finding a needle in a haystack, and it can be "involved" to get it performing right. Where as, you can pick up about any AR15 out there, and have parts availability and something made nice that will work.
@skyhop u spend the extra cheddar for a brand new arsenal and that takes the guesswork out. im an ar guy all the way but i do own an sgl31. and it mother fucking rocks man
Also you can use the side rail and get a centered weaver mount for the ak,just mount a peep sight on that.not sure it will be far enough back though, and it may be a little flimsy.i'll have to look into it a bit more.
Now that people are starting to cross breed the two, things are getting interesting.can't wait to see the ak more accurate with a rear peep sight, already the ar now has a gas rod to help keep it cleaner
Sorry about any grammar or spelling errors, I hate mobile devices, I can't see what I type. And by the way, I haven't cleaned that same wasr in 2k+ rounds. Still flawless.
No need to replace anything on an ak, if you get one that wasn't built by a retard then it will last you a lifetime. I have a couple ak's, one is an old crappy wasr 10/63, horribly built, gas tube is so far off I have no idea how it works. But I've thrown thousands of corrosive surplus rounds through it, I constantly throw it in the dirt and beat it to he'll, but never once has she failed me, I once ran it so hot I melted the plastic hand guard off, replaced it, still perfect. Ak all day.
i will agree that the AR's have much better part changeablily but as for repairs, you can repair an AK in the field very easily, even hearing about AK's in vietnam repaired with hammers or peices of metal shaped in camp to replace parts. it wont be pretty, but an AK is near impossible to stop, a round can even explode in the gun and it will be ok (why the dust cover comes off so easily). i have both an AR and an AK but i would never have my life behind anything bu tmy AK. IMO
I prefer the ar simply because I'm more familiar with it,plus it would be alot easier to replace most parts in an ar vs the Ak,and honestly I just think I looks cooler.
You talk about modularity, which the AR has, but with all the half dead franken guns out there, I really have to cringe. While you can switch out parts with other brands, it sometimes just doesn't work out well. Also is the head-spacing issue on the AK due to different nations designs, or something else. Lastly you can build a AK in a home, you need a mill to build parts for a AR, just depends on how you look at things, both are good guns.
I am terrified if buying an AR-15, reason: reliability! At my local range I have seen a ton of AR-15's AR-10's jam. Not to say that the AK doesn't but it last's longer IMO. I have seen AR's and AK's drop in the sand and only Ak's being able to fire after. So if the SHTF, WROL, or zombie apocalypse happens and I "panic fall" from running & the weapon falls in dirt I want to be able to pick it up and still fire w/o a quick lube and clean... agreed AR's you can swiths parts easy though... i dunno
In most case with ARs jamming is because of poor maintenance, or in some cases incorrect build...as with anything...sometimes you just get a bad one...Too
I have had sand and dirt blow into both my M-15 and AR-10...to the point there was a "Crust" on the BCGs...and they still functioned flawlessly....it also depends on your lube...
Don't know about the AKs....sorry I don't own one...but I have heard the same with them.
I will say the AR is easier to repair some parts but to get your AR from the word go you will need to put out about twice the price as the AK. They are both very different guns but they are both outstanding.
Arsenal claims that you can change out bolt head assemblies with their AK rifles without changing or affecting head spacing as long as you buy their parts.

@Mrcaffinebean A 7.62 ak can do minute of man @ 300yd (longest range I have avalible to me)
What are the odds of a CIVILIAN engagement @ more than 150-200yd?
Military engagements are a different story, and not the subject of my comment.
The difference in shot to shot recovery only makes the slightest difference in a compitition, the ak ain't a race gun by any stretch.
The recoil of an ak is more of a push while an ar is a quick snap, for me the ak is more controlable.

russians once wanted the round of the ar-15 rifles(5.56x45mm nato) in their ak-47's
the americans once wanted the 7.62x39mm in their ar-15
ak-101 and ar-47 where invented
apperantly the one who once ever fired ar-47's where not amused
the ones having ak-101's...
a litle bit, but they rather had the ak-104 or ak-105
some even rather had an ak-74 or an ak-47
i woud say there is sertainly no discusion about the gun design when you want a true standard rifle
