@meccaturbo The Bush economy was based mostly in part on the housing and mortgage markets. With no regulations in place, a wild west type monetary explosion hit and fueled Bush's "ownership society." While the scam worked, it infused tremendous amounts of cash into the economy which consumers spent very aggressively while also racking up their credit card debt. This also made the rich, much richer. 1920's rich. When that unraveled we had a complete economic meltdown.

The Clinton economy set up the framework for which the economic meltdown occurred....and the wild west mentality, started by Clinton, continued under Bush. Chris Dodd and Barney "butt pirate" Frank were the primary architects of pushing loans on people who could barely afford to pay them back. It's not just Bush's fault. Get the facts straight, you clown.

@meccaturbo The Clinton economy was booming. Why did it take 8 yrs after Clinton for the markets to crash? Bush had 8 years to correct the problems. No the truth of the matter is Bush's administration pushed for home ownership from the start of his 1st term. Under Bush regulation was lax. You can find paper after paper and news clip after news clip that support this fact if you are willing to look. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were just two senators not the economic team of the white house.

What planet do you live on if you think Chris Dodd and Bawney "butt pirate" Fwank didn't have huge sway over financial regulations affecting the housing market collapse. @UCVibes negative, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd did. Bush actually went to congress 21 times for reform and got turned down.....even by republicans. Just watch the Congressional hearings with Franks DEMANDING Fannie and Freddie were totally sound, it's a good laugh at best.

@dijhili Look at the old video clips. Clearly Bush is on record promoting Buy Buy Buy and he is a hero for having such an easy housing policy. Bush promoted the banking crisis. Bush never said no we need to regulate the banks and went out with a public announcement warning the public. Instead Bush pushed the buying.

@UCVibes Bush and his Administration not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties. President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted. Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded.

@dijhili The GSE were not the main problem with the economic meltdown of 2008. The main problem was Bush pushed new policies encouraging homeownership, like the "zero-down-payment initiative," credit default swaps, etc. Even with the GSE the problem is the banks dumped all of their junk loans into the GSE assets. It was a method to unload worthless loans onto the government books.
