BisonAp hit the nail on the head. I was born an raised there and Bham haven't changed since. That's why I got the hell out of there. I moved to Dallas Tx an there has been more construction here in the past 5 years than in Bham the past 25 years.
in the throes of "MAPS Kharma"...So forgive my lack of faith, as you put it, "Rtr87", but I've had years of experience with this town's political and social climate, while other cities flourish, it continues to flounder, Birmingham is its' own worst enemy, & we've no one to blame but ourselves for the pathetic quality of life we're faced with in what is supposed to be the modern era..This place and many of its' inhabitants are scared to death of real change that will benefit everyone here.
(part 3 of previous post) to become a modern, progressive city. There's way too much opposition to that, from within and beyond, & it's all by design. Hard to be optimistic about a town that has practically no autonomy, you know how much money this town's left on the table that it could have used to create a modern transit system long before now? Besides, its' leaders have proven over many, many years to be most untrustworthy, that's in part why the MAPS referendum failed in 1998. & here we are
(continued from previous post) with either an evasive or empty response from them.
Unless I'm mistaken, Atlanta's already enjoying BRT, as is Nashville. I just learned the other day that Albuquerque transit has joined the modern age with the addition of a commuter rail system, congrats to them all. I got nothing against the Railroad Park, it's beautiful and active, BRT or a streetcar line going by there would be a welcome addition, but, it's going to take more than this to get Bham (cont.)
"Chupacabra", reach out to the regional planning commission in the area of which you live about graphic designs, wish I could recommend someone definitively, but I can't at present. "The Rtr87" I admit my pessimism, but at least it's entrenched in a foundation of decades, not weeks/months/years, but decades of observed failures, disappointments & unfulfilled proclamations such as this BRT. I ask the regional planning commission by email every month about the status of this project. (continued)
people in birmingham are the most pesimistic people ever. have faith in your city!! dont just assume that no one will ever want to go downtown. just look at what railroad park has done
please i need some help...i need a 3d citiy based on a real city.how much would it cost and how much time would it take for, lets say 2-3 good designers to design it???the city would be 3x3 square kilometers big and you have to be able to walk in this town (not like google street view where you just click trough). Thanks
wow that would be pretty cool if birmingham could get something like this. I was just in chicago recentley and they have something very similar set up.
don't hold your breath..birmingham transit is stuck in the dark ages, and no one in position to do anything about it (state legislature and DOT) is willing to do so..Even the surrounding suburbs want nothing to do with birmingham's transit, as it is, it's in horrible shape, & state officials are content to see it crash and burn.Visitors with nothing better to do than come here will find this out the hard way, there's not even service to the airport. This system has light years to go to improve.
Let´s build this!! It will help Birmingham from polluted car traffic jam to new ecologic life thanks public transport. US cities must change their traffic politics. Public transport is space effective and ecological. It will bring development and create new jobs. Streetcars or subway are better but BRT is cheap.

After Boston's "Big Dig", any chance of "burying" freeways are dead on proposal.
