First, I don't find it fair to compare different liquids when a terp is used in only one of the mixes. I have to say a bias for lemon juice was created.
Second, I personally have always gotten dye release with fifteen minutes from my mixes, regardless of the crop I used or state I lived in. With cold water, I found that the release was almost instantaneous. I wouldn't wait 12 hours. A lot of my lawsone would have oxidized by then. What proof do I have that she maximized dying potential?
THIS WORKS FOR ME AND MY SISTERS. YOU KNOW THAT STEAM THING TO MAKE TEA AND WHATEVER LET THAT START MAKING THE HOT WIND PUT YOU HAND ON TOP OF IT FOR AT LEAST 15 MIN BUT IF YOU WANT IT DARKER DO IT LONGER. THAT WORKS. THEN AFTER REMOVE IT WITH EXTRA VIRGAN OLIVE OIL. OR ALOVE OIL. I LIKE VIRGIN BETTER. TRUST ME THIS WORKS.
if i pre mix my jamila henna with lemon juice and let it sit in a baggie 12-24 hrs can i expect faster results when i apply it? like 1-2 hrs to deep red verses 4-6..?
Salalm, i love your videos and congrats by the way on the opening of your store, just beautiful. What does cajeput do? Is this considered a terp? How is the smell?
@fatimaflowers333 My essential oil experiment would be a good video for you to watch. It explains what terp means, and what essential oils do for henna. Cajeput has a medicinal smell, it's hard to explain. Some people don't like the smell, it doesn't bother me.
@mehnaz01 Bleed is a word commonly used in the art world to mean something that is too wet, so it runs or leaks. If henna has too much liquid it will run or leak all over the skin, and the run or bleed ruins the design and becomes one big mess. I did not mean bleed like blood coming out.
I experimented with this and came up with very different results. This batch I'm currently working from was made with 2009 Jamila, STRONG black tea (6 bags in about 3 cups of water). The mix sat for about 16 hrs (my house was cold the day I made it) then I terped it with an essential oil. The stain results I've been getting are amazing, even on clients who don't usually obtain dark stains. Also, everyone noticed it's lasting longer.
Thanks for sharing, I have always thought that using a fresh good quality henna powder is the key to a rich stain, but this experiment confirms that lemon juice is also essential for a darker stain.
i did a mix of half really strong tea and half lemon juice this time with tea tree oil as my terp and it turned out pretty well considering i didn't bother to sponge it with lemon and sugar as it dried and i only let it set on my skin for 2 hours. i still got quite a dark stain with just the henna powder they sell at superstore. seeing this though, next time i think i'll either forgo the tea or make "tea" with lemon instead of water for the best of both worlds (and an improvement of smell)
I use lemon juice & some strong coffee , sometimes i boil cloves & cinamon with the coffee first, but lemon juice is essential. I can not find cajeput here, MB. Canada
totally cool! how about mixing these to give you darker and lighter areas? I think that would be interesting....but I have yet to even mess with henny.... :-)
i much prefer lemon and it helps release the stain cause henna needs a little acidity however a friend uses old coffee and it really helps the stain, although its more orange and leaves a strong color that lasts long.

can i put the lemon juice after the henna dries a bit?
aksaimtiaz19 1 year ago
@aksaimtiaz19 Yes, but be careful not to add too much. It could make the design bleed.
FreeHandMehndi 1 year ago
@FreeHandMehndi do u mean literally bleed or ruin the design?
