  • Nice review once again lol. Regards, great job!

  • i like how u explain about video games , keep it up

    subbed

  • SHUMPS stand for kinda curious.

  • You know anymore games like this besides gradius and r-type?

  • @cwm2k this is a space ship shooter, there are tons out there. There is some for almost every console past NES.

  • @nrexx there not as good though

  • @cwm2k I recommend you DonPachi and DoDonpachi series, they're awesome, and Mark did some reviews of these ones! If you ask me, I would start with DonPachi, it's really easy to get into that one.

  • @cwm2k Silpheed: The Lost Planet and Mobile Light Force 2 are other games in the genre available for ps2

  • This review made me not want to play the game, that's how bad it is.

  • Awesomesauce, it's on PSN now XD

  • The difficulty level is still 1/10 of any Touhou game

  • Whenever I type a game into youtube and CGR review pops up, I go straight to it :3

  • I bought this at Play N Trade for under 5 bucks. It is such a great game for the price! Beautiful colors and explosions. I highly recommend.

  • Terrible review. All you did was talk about a movie.

  • @TurningJappanesse that's kind of all he does. make pop culture references

  • @TurningJappanesse He explained the weapon system, explained the multiplier system, showed the options menu, explained the difficulty level, he said the game looks good, sounds good, the play controls are very responsive and said that if you like the Raiden series or the genre in general, then this game is highly recommended. From everything that Mark said about it leads me to believe that it's a 9 out of 10 if you want a numerical rating. What else do you need to know? Excellent review!

  • @deadlygroove1 I expect a review that goes into detail with everything rather than just saying this is good and this is good. That's not reviewing. Also, why does he feel the need to tell the entire plot of a movie. The review sucked in my opinion. He didn't explicate his opinion enough. My opinion

  • @TurningJappanesse He talked about everything you need to know about this game. On top of that he reviewed a movie. Because of this review, not only did I buy this game, I rented the movie as well and it was pretty good. That makes a great review when you can get two for one out of a night of fun. Oh well, you think it sucks and I think it's awesome. We human beings are an interesting species.

  • @deadlygroove1 Okay whatever.

  • thumbs up if you thought it was Raiden from m,Mortal Kombat

  • Who cares who the enemy is. Shmups are about shooting, not about intelligible stories.

  • @noescom I care.

  • Your enemies are....... hmm.... the bad guys

  • he needs to review gradius 5.

  • @veroarroyo1 pfft... I have Mushi. It's not as hard as Daioujou.

  • Love Raiden to death but the hardest PS2 game, nay, THE hardest game is DoDonPachi Daioujou. You wanna bust your balls? Try that one!

  • @TronPachioftheDynamo no its mushihimesama

  • Its not that hard!!!!

  • naa it's not last starfighter lol

  • I wonder who the enemy is? I love this game, but have a long way to go before aliens take me away to fight for them (sadly). I really want to play Raiden IV as well - lets have a Western release please Microsoft!

  • Nicely done game.

  • BULLET HELL!!!!!

  • FUCK YEAH, RAIDEN!

  • via Wikipedia: Little is known about the game's storyline, other than the fact that Earth has been overrun by aliens. It is suggested through similar ship design and flight patterns that the aliens are the Cranassians of the previous games.

  • @AMF1534

Who gives a shit about the storyline?

  • @Broyale26 Im not saying that I do lol. In a Raiden game, no one needs to know about the storyline. I only posted that because somewhere in this video, the guy mentioned something about having no clue about what the storyline was about.

  • @AMF1534

    My bad, bro. =)

I kinda figured that as I read the rest of the comments further back.

It just annoys the shit outta me when folks try to attach significance to story in a genre where clearly gameplay is the essence of the experience.

  • @Broyale26 Its all good man. Raiden games are all about just killing everything on-screen, and thats what makes it awesome. If wikipedia can barely shed any light on a games storyline, then we definitely know that it isnt important :D

  • @AMF1534

Fuck it, I just love shmups, man.

  • @Broyale26 Fuck yeah, thats what I grew up on.

  • I have this on my PC!

  • this game is hard?Try Ikaruga;)

  • @Semmel1986 dodonpachi

  • @Semmel1986

You must have mistaken Ikaruga for a hard game. If you don't give a shit about the polarity switching, its actually not that challenging at all.

Play Ibara if you want challenging.

  • Well the enemy in Raiden I and II was aliens.

  • DAMN!! I didn't know part 3 came out for the Ps2 now I have too go on a mission just to find this bad boy.

  • YOU ARE THE BEST GAME REVIEWER ON YOUTUBE.

  • Hmm, maybe the enemy is the Federation of Disgruntled Pizza Delivery Men...?

Bought it based on this review and it's awesome!

    Thanx, guys! :)

  • @AncestralKnowledge(I know this is a year late but) the graphics and the fact that it is missing features from Raiden fighters..... after Raiden DX the Raiden fighters games came out and it had several different ships and a different gameplay mechanic. this went back to the Raiden dx playstyle.

  • @kasnohp .... I'd say raiden 3 since you can actually afford it.

  • Good review!

  • The last starfighter sucked. That was a disgrace of a film.

  • Raiden is a naked hot fearie!

  • I practice with the "Green lazer" I'm a pro at it :D

  • Just found this for 6 bucks

  • Does this game have a 'Death Blossom' secret attack?

  • @maddmaxstar yes it has its equivalent and it destroys bullets too :D

  • 3:06 - 3:31 sounds like Vampire Killer from Castlevania xD

  • I dropped many a quarter into this game at the arcade (back when they still exsisted everywhere).

  • HELL!! Stop repeating that stupid "What involves space shooters, cars, and ninjas I like it".. It gets annoying.

  • @ThrashMetalForces not everyone has seen every video he has made....so he says it, it could be the first time some veiwers have ever heard that. no big deal

  • @Amaranthus616 Well you're right but he've said it in at least 10 videos as I recall. Anyway, no biggie.

  • This amounr of bullets is nothing compared to Sin & Punishment.

  • @aquapendulum

Yeah, but most of those bullets never were a threat.

  • @Cagedand3nRaged Playing SnP on Easy difficulty aren't ya?

  • @aquapendulum

    STFUUU lol.

Nawh. Really I was just over-exaggerating. I found SnP easier than Raiden Project because of the perspective it plays out from really. It sort of felt like things were in front of me and I really didn't need to pay as much attention to my aim because I could in fact move my targeting reticule around and lock on while dodging.

Raiden is a pain in that if you look forward to aim you miss out on the little balls flying at your ship. That's all.

  • @Cagedand3nRaged You forgot to mention that in SnP we can even deflect the missiles, lol.

  • @aquapendulum

Didn't have enough room. I wanted to include the health bar thing too. Really, Raiden is only harder because it was made to be a quarter-eater.

  • Does this have multiplayer co-op?

  • @Addicted2gaming yes, two players

  • In 2101, war was begi.. Oh sh** wrong game nvm

  • Tell me the name of the Movie that you were saying.

  • This is Raiden III USA Version for the Sony PS2

  • dude my days are not that bad to play these Stupid games on PS2 duh

  • Either this game bored him to tears, or there is a serious hope for Derek's future performance too...

  • this was a good shmup for the ps2, I liked it alot, great fun when mixed with coke ;)

  • If only I got plucked out and sent to live in Gensokyo once I beat a Touhou game on Lunatic...

  • @JapanForSale lol im sure aliens created Touhou for this specific purpose

Aliens: "hey humans like cute little girls right?, they wont suspect a thing"

  • LOL!!! how stoned is this guy.

  • Are CD based ones the blue ones? Like Tekken Tag Tournament or Crazy Taxi?

  • great shooter,i like this kind of games...

    outzone toaplan

    trigon konami"lighting fighters"

    raiden 2 seibu

  • I own this game and cant even play it because my ps2s wont play CD based games. exactly why I dont own a ps 3. dont feel like getting fucked again....

  • My PS won't anymore either. I am so pissed off

  • @ldl0021 Works perfect on the PCSX2 emulator.

  • @ldl0021 whats that about?.. cd based games wont play on ps2?

  • You wanna know the enemy's? Here's the 1st synopsis.

"In the year 2090, Earth has suddenly become the target of deranged aliens. Following the invasion, a new cutting-edge weapon, the Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter, based on the destroyed alien craft, is created for humanity's hope for survival."

RII takes place in 2093 and humanity must update the Raiden to combat the remaining enemies.

RIII has a new wave of aliens w/ even more advanced firepower.

The main boss is always a weird crystal.

  • because it's possible to have good gameplay AND graphics on one console.

plus the superior hardware to the other consoles and the free online service.

    but, whatever. opinions.

  • What are the best vertical shooters of all time?? i just got introduced to this type of games and i would like to know what games are the best, thanks.

  • Raptor: Call of the Shadows

    Demonstar

    Raiden III + Raiden IV

    Ikaruga

    1942: Joint Strike

    Duality ZF

I think this is the list of best :P

  • @tmz90 "best" is a subjective matter.

    My personal favourites are:

    Ikaruga

    Mushihimesama Futari

    Ketsui Death Label

    Dodonpachi

    Raystorm

  • @tmz90

    Anything CAVE or Raizing related.

  • Plasma force is the best power

  • Lol! No. If you did then it wouldn't be hard then, would it?

  • the last starfighter=80's wet dreams!

I used to love this movie!

  • the idea of shmups is learning them not mindlessly using continues .

  • It's Raiden, you can't go wrong with either one.

  • this game cost me 50 pounds

worth every penny though - fantastic game

  • i have this for PC!

  • somewone know some other games like this?for PC pls...

  • If your ok with emulators there are a shit ton. Check out Gigawing, Ikaruga, and if your completely insane, Mushihimesama.

  • One that I really liked was called Raptor. It had very similar graphics to this one. It may be hard to find though.

  • tnx much

  • PENIS

  • look up "Touhou"

  • raiden II is my favorite game

  • Am I the only one that cant even play this game on his POS PS2 system anymore because it nolonger plays cd roms?

  • My brother is right its called raiden with an I not a Y so its raiden not rayden.

  • Its called raiden not rayden

  • fuck yeah Vertical Shooters

  • It was popular in japan :P They even got a PC version in Japan. And if it wasnt popular they didnt make Raiden IV :D!!!

  • can someone plz tell me were i can download raiden 1,2, or 3

    i miss this game D:

  • i used to have a simlir game for the ps1

  • is a sony ps2 a 4 player system?

  • if u buy a addon part

  • You need to buy a multi-tap. Like all/most Sony products, it's built great, so you don't need to worry.

  • yes but you need to purchase a multi-tap

  • not the same... , i love RP I and II...

  • Do shmups really need a story?I know i fought Bydo empire in R-Type ,but even if they called the empire SpacePotatoNinjaNation it would still feel the same.

Anyway ,this was and still is a great game in the Raiden series. The techno music theme was very upbeat too!

  • It's rare for a shmup to have a story... The only shmups that have a story as far i know is Radiant Silvergun and the Touhou series.

  • I thought there was some vague exposition for Raiden 1 or 2, tho, wasn't there?

  • Don't forget Silpheed!

  • Shmups don't need stories, just lots of shit to destroy and bullets to dodge.

  • Einhander.

  • I love all of the Raiden games, and this one is probably the worst one, not saying that it's bad, it's just not up to par with the others in the series. My person favorite is the spin-off series, Raiden Fighters, all 3 of which are now on the Xbox 360 in Raiden Fighters Aces. I very highly recommend that game to anyone who enjoys shmups, and I would like to see the CGR's view on it if you have the time.

  • So is it really better than Gradius V or Ikaruga as hinted in the text?

  • Raiden 1 & 2 were soooo much better... Raiden 4 looks great, dunno if it'll be released here though after how badly 3 did. Even Japan didn't like Raiden 3, which is why Raiden 4 has more of a Raiden 2 formula to it.

Also, the OP should play Castle Shikigami or something if he wants real bullet-hell.

  • Great game that got bad to average reviews for some reason.

  • sigh...why did i get rid of this game??

  • Wow I remember the last starship!! this movie was a real blast for arcade lovers in the 80's!

  • This game has THE GREATEST box art ever.

  • At the very least he doesn't still live with his mom like you do. Nobody cares about your next gen garbage here. Maybe you should buy some good last gen games that are less expensive so you can finally move out of your moms house.

  • This game isn't stupid. You should really show more appreciation to games that were made originally to the original game. If it weren't for those games, you wouldn't have the games you see now-a-days.

  • wats with all the usernames with numbers (including me)

  • Raiden III came to the UK about 3 years ago mate

  • ...ark reviews games when he wants.

  • My comment was for someone on the second page. the way Youtube comments appear out of order these days is fucked up, they need to put it back to the way it was

  • Dan straight, man. How hard is it to code a comments section?

  • I have a soft spot for the Raiden series. Raiden IV should come to the US.

  • Comment removed

  • The key to good video gaming is to stay 1 system behind. The games are cheaper with a large selection, hardware is cheaper, system bugs are worked out, a smaller console is usually there.

  • You know, that's not actually a bad idea. I can't wait for GameStop to start clearing out their last gen games.

  • You wanna hear a good gs story....a few years ago befreo GS and EB combined I went in just browsing and an old lady wanted to sell ROB and the GS/EB employee says it was out of date.....I told the lady id give her 50 bucks cash for it since it was 4 generations and 20 years out of date....CHING CHING For me

  • i've always done that. seemed to make sense to me. what same person spends $50 on a video game anyways??? not me. hell, i think $30 is a bit too much.

  • You don't need to stay a whole system behind, just stay one or two years behind the latest system release ;) that way you get a really cheap system (xbox 360 price drop) and lots of games.

  • that's a good idea and what i'm still doing cause i can't pay $400 plus for a new console plus $60 for games. I'd rather pay $200 or less for the system and then around $20 or less for the games.

  • A fair comment.. I like to have current systems (and do) but I find most of my time is spent on old systems - Dreamcast and PS2 are currently my favs..

  • I beat raiden III on arcade mode difficulty, but I used a cheat code. Those aliens were PISSED OFF that they wasted the trip. :(

  • wow, one of the few videos that has references on things that I have read and seen. no wonder it was in the recommended for me section.

  • pshhhhhhh

Mark thought Syphon Filter was hard

    :P

  • what a stupid comparison.

you might as well say "apples are worlds above grape fruits".

prefering puzzle shooters to raiden style shooters is fine, but neither one is better than the other. period.

  • no cluster bombs?? sod.

  • x_x Didn't know this was released for PS2?!?!? Damn I have to go get it now ;D

  • They need to release more games like this on the PS3 and 360... and I don't just mean downloadable crap like Stardust HD (apologies to any fans).

No wonder Japan has resigned itself to playing Wii games now. :-(

  • Raiden 4 is already out for the XB360, but Japan region only. ;)

  • Arrgh! So typical - "Oh, Western gamers wouldn't like that!" *%@%ers!

  • thats kinda gay considering the 360 is a american system and the games not out here

  • what book did you mention? 6:44 ...

  • Enders Game - Orson Scott Card (I think).

  • Raiden 2 was the best, or DX.

  • i agree... making a 2d shoot'em game in 3d has never worked.

  • and what more - they just squash them insted of redesigning them for horizontal CRT TV... (obviously noone serious about shooters is not gonna play them on crappy LCD)

  • always good to meet someone who read enders game

  • Why don't you review gradius 5? Hardly anybody has, and I just got it today! It's fuckin awesome!

  • Yeah, its by Treasure. Treasure hardly ever releases anything but excellent games.

  • Its Raiden III and IV is made by Moss not Treasure.

  • ps3 after xb360 ?

  • ok, can some1 tell me what are the other good shmups on ps2? only the NTSC version plz.

i already have gradius 5, r-type final, raiden 3 and castle shikigami...

does some1 know any other games running on american ps2?

shmups are so great, they're real games packed with action and intense gameplay, and i just want to find some other. (yeah i know ikaruga and radiant silvergun, unfortunately they're not on ps2...)

    great review btw!!!

  • gradius 3 and 4

  • Bahhh they got rid of the purple "toothpaste" laser... damn that was pretty much the best weapon in Raiden II, and they replaced it with a funky tough-to-control green laser. Maybe it was too broken?

  • too funky fresh

  • why this fucking LG intrusive ads all over the tube wtf...

  • its because they are a youtube partner

  • This game is awesome. I generally agree with the review except that do you really care what the story is? It's not a big issue for a game like this.

Also I've beaten this game on Very Hard with my friend so yes, it's difficult, but no it's not impossible to beat on the high difficulty.
