Im 40 yrs old now, I was born with a clef palate,,,all I can say to all those people out there who tease or stare at us because of our birth defect, these people are VERY shallow..& if anyone stares at me for a long period of time I say to them. my nephew had a cleft lip and palate. his lip was fixed at 3 days and his palate at 6 months they fixed his lip again with the 2nd surgery but thankfully he only needed 2 surgeries to fix the immediate problems.
My son was bron n OCT 2003 wit same cleft lp & palate but he didnt get the tape on mouth or the retainer like your son he done had 10 surgeries since Dec 2003. He jus got a palate expander about 2 months ago we got bac this week an should be done wit the key an we will get the go ahead to get next surgery. He stil has a lyl hole still in his palate he did havea bilateral cleft lip & palate. His scars look likeup side down L faceing bac to bac!
I have the exact same think, and my mom used to call me motor mouth lol cause I talked all the time. and I have perfect speech now.. This just goes to show you that drs dont always know or can predict the outcome. They told my mom I woudl have a lisp, the rest of my life, and I just saw a dr a week ago and he said Oh wow, Somehow you have perfect speech! lol I am 38 and have learned that we pay more attention to it than others actually notice.. we are our worst enemies! :O)
I just have to say you are braver than me. I've had F surgeries and I'm 6 yrs older than you with the same cleft lip/palate. We should do a calab or something.

I was born with a unilateral that has since been fixed through a scar revision surgery. Many people say i look a lot like joaquin phoneix and thats fine but the comparisons get old and i feel like telling people no i look like brendan and thats it. I lost my job and dropped out of school because of social anxiety and depression. I need some advice please.
I have a cleft lip aswell. You do aswell, but seriously though, your eyebrows look alot worse than your lip. Anyway, i don't get what all the fuss is about ? There's alot of people making videos of themself with their fancy cleft-lip. It's good that you're not anti-social like i used to be, but seriously, why would we want to draw attention to ourselves when not neccesary ? It's like making a fugly piece of art and showing it to the world.

Your good looks and clear speech are wonderful but your words are attitude are the most inspiring. We are in England and seem to be getting good care. If you videos are still on line when she is older I will show them to her to help her through the inevitable darker moments. Thanks again.
i was born with both cleft lip and palate, haha when i was 8 or 9 years old i had a opparation on my palate coz of the hole, and ever thing i ate and drink came out of my nose at first i thought i had some kind of talent ( eww, rightt) but then it just got gross.

*procrastinating AP Euro* Yeah, the Smile Pinki and similar stories aren't "perfect repairs" like you or I would get, but they're good enough.
Whoa 18 surgeries?! I've had 9 (2 left), and a few were not-cleft-related (I was only one side, right side, full cleft lip/palate).
Go luck of the draw! Haha no genetic history, I was the first pregnancy (so my mom was SUPER careful), DNA studies are perfect.
Yes, when I am older (16 now) I plan to have kids and que será, será.
