20B FC Drift Video - Part I

I was thinking about putting a 20B into my FC as a dailydriver/ drifter or track. What did you go through in order to do this swap and what was its cost. Also are you Turbo or N/A. Did you need a mount, where did you get a mount, how much was your turbo kit. Sorry im asking so many questions but i need to know this stuff before i go and chase this dream down. Btw what is the fuel consumption?

@RotaryRobBrap Last year it was stock twin-turbo. This year it will be single turbo, hope to have it done by end of May. Fuel consumption is terrible... close to 12mpg. The cost will vary depending on how much power you want and how much of the work you do yourself (est. 10K to 20K+). @DanielVillegasBMX That's a pretty low speed course, and I'm always in 2nd. With my gearing and lack of low-end third is not the best idea. Maybe this year with the new setup I can attempt 3rd.

How much horse power are you getting out of that?

@iamthedirector I never dyno'ed it... I was running the stock twins at about 11-12psi. I tuned it myself on the streets so who knows? I think it felt like about ~300 at the wheels. Going to single turbo for next year and I'm shooting for a low 400rwhp.

@thatdamnrx7kid Yeah the night time footage was my first practice in 2011, with the first time on a welded diff, with the 3 rotor... also it was half wet the track... and you could say I was a bit nervous, I think the only thing on my mind was... don't total this car, don't total this car, don't total this car... LOL

you don't use the ebrake entering the corner right? You just use the brake?

@pinoyALLmotorEVOIXMR I used the ebrake to initiate and then the brakes to adjust speed since it was a really tight corner onto the X.

@rottary89 oh I get it. Any quick advice? I've seen people use just the brake, even Keiichi Tsuchiya. I just started drifting lol bone stock S13 but with Tein coils

@pinoyALLmotorEVOIXMR Actually even in the drift bile, Keiichi starts by telling you to learn how to use your ebrake first. I fully believe that knowing to properly use your ebrake is one of the most critical skills at any level. I'd start there. Go out and have fun, the rest will follow.

@randomreptar21 lol thanks, the fireballs are just from me running really rich under partial throttle and decel... I disabled the fuel cut when you let off... and it return when the exhaust gets hot enough... you get flame after flame :)

@pumpitdown0x Nah, I turned off the fuel cut on deccel option on the Microtech because I did my own tune and I was worried I would lean-out while drifting during on/off throttle situations... so it was more of a precaution on my side. The side-effect of all the extra fuel? Looks like a crap load of flames lol, which I didn't even get to enjoy!

out of curiosity i have to ask , does the 20B feel more front heavy than the 13B ? and if so is the pivot point of the car still in the middle of the chassis ? i would appreciate it if you could answer man !

@YoshiiKid I honestly didn't find much of a difference... with a CF hood, battery relocated in the back, and roll cage... you actually compensate a good amount of that weight that you gain in the front. The biggest issue at the beginning was that I didn't have a front sway bar... and the car felt horrible and I was under-steering a lot. Then I got a custom sway bar, and car felt just as agile and balanced as it did with the 13B.

10k - 20k, one of my turbo just blew on mine... so I'll be done for a year trying to save up to do a single turbo conversion :(

@h2v7simon Yes, the footage from the day time at the end of the video is on an open diff. The diff welds were really shitty and they pretty much came off, but the diff didn't seize, i drifted on it for a practice then I took it a part and had it rewedded.

@rottary89 lol, I've actually never gotten to drift an FC with a working LSD before... I had a '90 GXL that I used to drift that was open diff, and the GT-R I have now the viscous LSD is toast so I'm waiting for the rest of the build to be determined before picking up a 1.5way (not getting it for 100% drift).

@derekfc It still has the stock twins and it pretty much sounds like a 2J. I have a video where there is no music if that's so important to you lol.
