  • is this based on william burroughs "interzone"

  • is this dubstep

  • one of the most influential bands of all timed

  • n.f porter keepon keeping on speeded up

  • a great song

  • I hate how everyone acts like EVERY band is indebted to the Beatles. I love their music, but seriously.

  • i agree this sounds just as metal as judas priest.

  • awesome

  • i would recommend listening to the warrior soul cover of this...

  • When I first started listening to Joy Division I couldn't tell Peter Hook's voice from Ian's in this song.

The similarity is especially eerie in the New Order song "Doubts Even Here," which sounds like it could be a Joy Division song, and might well have been if it hadn't been for Ian's passing.

  • @muddykipz ian sings both lead and backing vocals in the studio version....

  • @qoakzm2qoakzm

Yeah I think Barney is doing backing on this one.

  • @DerrEinzige oo it does kinda sound like him

  • me i"m in the interzone ......

  • The main voice belongs to Hook. Ian Curtis does the backing vocals in this song

  • @TheMusicVelocity You're not serious right? On the album, Ian sings both the main vocal and the background vocal. Live, Hooky does the background vocal.

  • Great riff. This is almost heavy metal.

  • @e11aguru

Nah man this is post punk

  • @DerrEinzige wts the difference

  • @qoakzm2qoakzm

    It not being heavy metal...

  • @DerrEinzige oh shit lol i dnt thnk i read the first commenttttt, i thought u were reacting to the comment that se "you aint to familiar with punk" - still i reemphasise punk + postpunk have fine fuzzy lines bvetween

  • @e11aguru This, almost heavy metal?!? Come on, you're not too familiar with punk aren't ya?

  • @canuck21 I never thought of it as that but YEAH I can agree with you on that! I bet if they would've stayed longer, they would've made metal bands get scared! lol =)

  • Ian curtis lost control ....

  • C O N T R O L

  • one of my fav !

  • Interzone: Junky's ahead. Joy Division and William Burroughs rule!

  • 6 emos didn't like this song. xD

  • better than the beattles? i think so!

  • @5c0tty5 Who are Beatles?? !!

  • @5c0tty5 amen to that!

  • @5c0tty5 fuck yeah!

  • @5c0tty5 if it wasnt for the beatles, these guys probably wouldnt have been so inspired..but joy division is still super dope

  • @5c0tty5 why is it are people like yourself allowed to breathe ,how old are you 10 moron.

  • @5c0tty5 Seems legit.

  • @5c0tty5 And I think freezer is better than vacum cleaner. Nobody seems to know where the connection is, but still I do.

  • @zuks345 good 4 u =)

  • @5c0tty5 hey no need to go that far

  • the first 4 seconds sound a lot like disorder

  • Is that Hook on lead vox? Ian on backup?

  • @SBV123

    Opposite

    Hooks is on backup.

Ian's natural voice is higher then how usually sings. Listen to Warsaw he sings higher then in JD.

Find a video of him talking its not low at all.

  • @SBV123 No, it's definitely Ian on both lead and backing.

  • @ORSTRALIAN Actually, beg my pardon, It could be Peter on backing, but it sounds very Ian to me (his deeper darker voice). But it's Ian on lead that's for sure, no mistaking that early Ian voice.

  • @ORSTRALIAN Agree....it's Ian doing both vocals

  • their is no other band like joy division. period.

  • This is avery intense rock'n'roll song. It reminds me of The Velvet Underground, but the drums are quite different, much "sharper", more vicious. Oh, and Martin Hannett was a brilliant but dangerously different producer.

  • TOOO MUCH FUCKING LOVE

  • The coolest band the last 30 years......

  • fucking awesome band and sound. where the fuck were you in 1978??

  • This song fucking rules.

  • @WalkEvilTalk Yeah! Especially if on drugs, uh? LOL!

  • Who's on lead vocals here?

  • @HeadfulOfHollow: Ian Curtis. Watch these two films - fairly good depictions and give a nice history: 24 Hour Party People and Control.

  • @loudenblogger Already watched 'em, haha. Don't know any JD fan who hasn't.

  • @loudenblogger For some reason I just can't stand the looks of the actor who plays Ian in 24 Hour Party People, I prefer the guy in Control especially at the beginning of Control when Ian has the eyeliner on.

  • @loudenblogger My god, man! How the fuck (and with no offense) do you know if those were good depictions of Ian Curtis? Were you two mates back then?

  • @gabrielbusso

    YES

  • @HeadfulOfHollow Peter Hook was on lead vocals

  • @bassman0708 I think that it's Ian who sings lead and Hooky's the one with the deep voice in the background.

  • @HeadfulOfHollow Ah right

  • @HeadfulOfHollow thats Peter Hook on Lead Vocals and Ian Curtis on backing

  • I read in "Touching from a Distance" ian was drunk off scotch while they recoded this song. i guess they decided to keep the manic yelling. great stuff.

  • just home from seeing Unknown Pleasures by Peter Hook and guests - this track sounded awesome.

  • Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds like a Stooges song?

  • @lMaximumlHeat : I think you are the only one who thinks this, but it is not a daft notion. Joy Division. like most bands from this era (punk, whatever - insert label here) were influenced by Iggy Pop, et al. I remember when they were intoduced in the states, but Ian killed himself before they were to embark on their first US tour. They were kind of a religion for me back then and I still listen to them.

  • So Inspiring

  • Just learned how to play this on guitar!

  • my friend told me about joy division because he's a huge fan, at first i didn't like them, but then i listened to A LOT of their stuff and i love them now. Ian is one my favorite frontmen, right next to jim morrison.

    R.I.P

  • Class back in the day The Rise Of The working Class! Im talking for the band :)

  • i wonder if they're reffering to interzone from the naked lunch...??

  • @zodiacflower likely

  • @zodiacflower It's older (song), isn't it?

  • Ian Curtis' death was worse than when we lost Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain.

  • @stoprejectingmynames man all death is bad. But Curtis was just absolutely incredible.

  • @waggy55 death is not bad, actually after life, you have no more separations, and there is no binary (good/bad) to bind us any longer. Any separation is just illusion.

  • @waggy55 death is not bad, actually after life, you have no more separations, and there is no binary (good/bad) to bind us any longer. Any separation is just illusion. Kill death. Dharma Wheel of Fourtunes. Die yung, they young, they hung.

  • @stoprejectingmynames Or Jim Morrison ...

  • Joy Division are just mind blowing - THE BEST BAND EVER !!!

  • never can get enough of joy division

  • A 5 star song: Interzone - Joy Division [Salford, Greater Manchester, England] - 1979 - "The most accessible rock song on this album." - Unknown Pleasures (Collector's Edition) [Extra Tracks] (Rhino) [Disc 1]-2007.

  • This Band has been My Favourite for over 26 years now.

  • @stevehyde you should be proud of your taste in music then :)

  • @VampsMargera Proud is perhaps the wrong word, I would say satisfied. :-)

  • the musical equivalent of watching the movie ARMAGEDDON..... brilliant!

  • Hey, guys, I just uploaded Ian Curtis Tribute Video on my channel. It`s just final part of the movie called Control. I thought it was a very touching scene So, I hope you`re gonna like it. ...

    In Loving Memory of Ian Curtis(15 July 1956 - 18 May 1980).

    Peace.

    TheGigsixstringAge.

  • The best.

  • pure joy division.........

.I WALKED THROUGH THE CITY LIMITS!!!!

  • It's been said thousand times about a thousand different songs and artists, but they really do not make music like this anymore.

  • @bassmanUSSR cause ian curtis is dead about 20 years?

  • @sharethtattooartist 30 years

  • @metronomic1 sorry ur right hehe anyway cheers for joy divisions legacy on music

  • @sharethtattooartist 30 to be exact ;-)

  • Uhrrrrrrrrrrrr, uhrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    Barranco DARK

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA XD

  • no maaaaa

    stos sujetos eran la cura

    Ian Curtis [R.I.P.]

    era genial

  • was this by warsaw sounds like their style

  • @Lone06 originally yes it was. fucking amazing raw sound

  • book of buroghs i didn't know

  • RockN8N,bet somewhere you have The Stiff Kittens stuff ? New to YT, can't believe all this music is here, F*CKNBRILL ! CHEERS

Wierd trivia, Ian met Burroughs at a book reading and was snubbed by him. It reinforced Ian's insecurities, apparently when he was depressed he felt that what he did had no real value ?????? Buddy Holly was the same,if he hadn't died he was going to give up music and make movies, so people would take him seriously ?

  • good work troll!..ha,ha,ha

  • Metallic Blue turning Red with Rust. Classic.

  • love this

  • @

Oscar301 isnt interzone the city in the film naked lunch? and is it meant by the song

  • Proberbly, Ian was after all a big burroughs fan! :)

Thanks for that note, didnt think of it myself! :D

  • Interzone is a book by William S. Burroughs - the name comes from his time living in the International Zone in Tangiers

  • keep on keeping on by nolan porter- well i never knew that this choon, was inspired by it.and thats another northern soul fact!

  • Fact indeed!!

  • Powerful post-punk

  • @Roypuello

Congratulations. You have just made the most ignorant comment,I have read today.I would insult you but I feel pity for someone as ignorant as you are.Joy Division is one of the most influencial bands of all time. This one is one of their best songs.

  • Pure, stripped down to its core Rock'n'Roll...Joy Division style!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time

  • genius

  • The lyrics of this music make sense if you jump one line and read like this ...

    a:

    b

    a:

    b:

Try read it like this and you see it could be two diferent lyrics...

  • Apparently this was heavily influenced by the Northern Soul track - N F Porter "keep on keeping on" check it out on You Tube you can hear it in this track.

  • steve morris loves his 16th eh??

  • -yeah, pointlessy knackering himself when it can`t even be heard helf the time on 80`s recordings....sort of ironic really<*¬)X

  • It's pretty fuckin' cool when a song can conjure feelings of rage and sadness yet still make you just went to get up and dance like crazy.

  • @WalkEvilTalk fucking yeah

  • Comment removed

  • They had that effect!!!

  • ICB!

  • Ian R.I.P.

  • this is the shit!!!!

  • love this song. . . just starting listening to them!

  • prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • fucking great song!

  • RED HOT ROCK MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

  • Commenting on videos is stupid.

  • you just did u dumbass

  • Are you for real? Also, it's called punctuation... dumbcock.

  • No, see the thing is that I have to assume that you are joking. You don't know where I am or who I am. Hence, it would be most difficult for you to "shoot me in the head". Unless you have a magic gun that can shoot halfway arounf the world. Well, do you dumbcock? Didn't think so. Here's a word of advice, quit being so angry.

  • I originally was going to look up different bands, but when I started listening to joy division, I couldnt stop!

    :]

  • @stadiumlovee Glad to hear it !! ;)

  • you guys are all a little shot . there is plenty of good music around if you look for it . Very good time for music , you just need satalite radio and to go to shows . Love Joy Division though because there was nothing like this at the time . Somewhat groundbreaking . Very beachy , surferish basslines w the dark voice of Ian . Catchy and still so different .

  • both nirvana and joy division were good

quite similar in ways e.g. only getting 2/3 studio albums out before being cut short by death of lead singer but still being extremely, extremely influential

  • although I hate nirvana , you have a point there...!

  • so you think really you can judge about the quality of music? i mean how would you do that? i see that there is that 'commercial' music, and i hate that kinda music because, it seems to be, only for making some money, but i don't think that anybody could say it's only the 'teenybopper' music that's being used only for making some fast money.

i think you can't accept that music, today, has nothing to do with expression or anything else than money... (not ALL music but the most)

  • ... you sound like you are somehow pissed off because nirvana reached a bigger popularity than joy division... and why do you think teenagers are *the worst judge of talent* ?...

  • some places say that Hook is singing with Ian on the Unknown Pleasures version of this song, but it just sounds Ian's voice recorded again.. anyone know?

  • you're still arguing about something that happened 20 years ago

  • fuk u and the teen shit lol kurt was nice.. nothing to do with joy division but still nice. also if teens mind sucks (never listened to nirvana before 18's)

  • POWERFUL!!!! JOY DIVISION FOREVER

  • And Kurt Cobain couldn't write lyrics? have you ever listened to nirvana before?

Cobain was the leader & ultimate expression of teen angst that every other teenager & young adult could relate to, he sung, said and acted the way every frustrated person felt in the early 90's, he was something real and created from his soul unlike everything else after him like n'sync. He was part of that generation that was angry and tired of shit, of course he had the perfect timing fool. timing is everything

  • Naked Lunch MEETS joy division!-Fucking brilliant! Curtis n Burroughs! he also love Jg Ballard who just passed away! these two authors influenced a lot of IAN's bril' work! check it out!

  • That's Ian howling in the background, clearer on the RCA demo version. On 'Sound Of Music' he sounds like a Werewolf, scary!

  • Dont mean to sound like a noob but waits that faint wailing sound at the beggining? Kind of sounds like vocals of some sort but I cant imagine Ian or Peter doing it lol. Great song though.

  • Awesome

  • Please check out NF Porter - Keep on Keeping on (Northern Soul) as mentioned in the documentary DVD 'Joy Division' Interzone was produced on the basis of this old Northern soul sound ! and that is fact !!

  • Parece que la cancion estuviese influenciada por los RAMONES. hasta la voy de Ian es semejante a la de joey en los albumes de estudio

  • P.S. to my rant about nirvana on a joy divisions turf.....I LOVE JOY DIVISION and when im listening to them THEY ARE NUMBER 1 in my book. TOPPS, Yes!

  • Ian sings all of it, Hooky just does the deeper sounding backing vocals.

  • ian sings the second verus

  • Cobain and Curtis were both great R&R singers, and Cobain wrote great music, but Curtis's talents at writing lyrics far surpassed Cobain's, imo. Curtis was a real writer.

Cobain's words SOUNDED great because his delivery was so good . It gave his words lots of punch. But if you read his words off a page, they don't read like much at all, usually.

Even Kurt admitted music was to him #1, and that he often tossed lyrics off without giving them much thought.

  • I can see the similarity with them both committing suicide but its like comparing jimi hendrix to Ludwig Van Beethoven... the music is totally diferent but they are considered talented by most

  • You stupid ignorant cunt

  • woow hahaha u just dont no anything about nirvana do you?

"no problems" my ass haha fuck u

  • I love joy division but i would never say Nirvana was inferior to them. They are just completely different. The same as well. But definately for the most part different. When it reaches a certain point at the most superb of talented bands, no one band is better than another really i dont think. Just different. Nirvana is bad ass but get a bad rap. Fortunately for joy division they checked out before they got huge. Only after it was all over did they become world wide known and respected

  • yeah because Ian Curtis had such a hard life, having an affair while his neglected wife and child sat at home while he was touring and getting. He killed himself while he was getting famous. Kurt Cobain's lyrics mean nothing? Do you understand the english language? I'm not saying Ian Curtis sucks, i love him. Kurt Cobain was amazing and his life was pretty shitty. Being depressed from pills has nothing to do with your life and i know that from experience.

  • I heard its bassist Peter Hook who sings lead in here is it true? Ian has a similar voices in Warsaw...
