@Raff365, actually dude i was saying bela is a bad ass, as well as american. i am from south carolina, being from america is a good thing in my eyes. yngwie is a prick, and also not a native of my homeland. you clearly think you're a smart guy, so how about make sure you understand comments before you try to call someone out.
Bach's concerto for Violin in Gm.... 4 mvt "Presto".... one of the best pieces ever written. I've been playing and studying this piece on the mandolin for over a year now and still don't have it down perfectly -- it's so inspiring to hear Bela play a bit of it :)
oh yeah and yngwie plays fucking METAL GUITAR and bela plays BLUEGRASS BANJO? apples and oranges kids. but i'm sure bela's a nicer guy. plus he's american.
@MrJDRAWDY What does being an American have to do with anything? Are Americans fundamentally poorer musicians than Europeans? I would love to see any research backing you up on that one.
@Raff365, people all over this page are comparing the two, "the difference between yngwie and bela is that in a group setting.." blah blah blah- my point was that the difference between bela and yngwie is not just their personalities but their entire style, genre, and training. you can't exactly compare the two musically, but personality wise yes yngwie is more boisterous and overbearing but maybe thats because he is a lead guitarist in a metal band?
The difference between Yngwie and Bela is that in a group setting, Yngwie's ego won't let him do anything but dominate. Bela, on the other hand, leaves plenty of space for a genuine musical conversation. The result is a lot more sparks.
@TheCrazyJonses The thing about Yngwie is, people can say he's a dick, they can say he's a fat old Swede...but there is nothing bad that can be said about Yngwie, that can't be countered by the words:
"But he's Yngwie".
No matter what else he is...he's Yngwie. That outweighs everything else.
@wadedarnellmusic People have been playing classical banjo (and not only arranged classical music, but original pieces as well) since the late 19th century. Look up classic banjo on google to see what I mean, or look for the videos of William J Ball playing the banjo on Youtube.
Here's your chance to personally thank Bela for the wonderful music he makes and wish him a 50th Happy B-Day on JULY 10, 2008. So, send a "fun" card or something special to (Bela's Manager) David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210 and he will make sure Bela gets it. (Please don't mark as "Spam" there's nothing for sale here!)

I met Bela after a concert in Madison. He was just randomly standing in the middle of the street. We almost walked by him in confusion, but of course we had to check it out. He was super nice and down to earth. Just like a regular guy. LONG LIVE THE KING OF BANJOS!!!
I met him several times as a pilot for AA in the 1990's when BNA was still a base for us. He was on a flight out and needed help carrying his case bags, etc.. and I helped him with it and he stuck out his hand an introduced himself and I said "yeah I know" and he said.."what?" and I told him how much I enjoyed his work and he said.."wow.. no one ever recognized me before" Great guy. Saw him several times after that and he even remembered it meeting. He has gone beyond where most can only imagine
this isn't classical, this is you enjoy myself

Bela Fleck has proven that any kind of music can be played on the banjo. Thanks to him, the banjo has gained much more respect.
