Ed, this song was one of my Favs back in 1999. I do it @ coffee shop gigs along with hello City. I tell my audience how much BN has influenced me and my song writing.
The ladies will never be the same, agreed. I've always admired Steven's musical strength, his songwriting skills and vocal rarity, the Ladies will never be the same without him, no matter how many empty bottles of beer you smash down on Ed's head :)

And after Snacktime! That album bit! It was so bad it actually made me physically sick. I felt like throwing up because I was so disappointed. 789? WTF? Everything to Everyone wasn't even half as bad. I know they were capable of much better!
I'm sorry to say it but yeah. Really. I hated Snacktime. The only highlight of the album was a quick voiceover of "Weird Al" Yankovic. That was all I liked. There may have been a couple decnet songs but that was it. Don't get me wrong. Loved every other album to death! Just not Snacktime.
Yes. I totally know that but...never mind. I'm just saying it could have been a lot better. I wasn't too fond of most of the songs on Everything to everyone either but it was still somewhat good. I'm going to end it here before I anger anyone more.
OK. It seemed like a stupid question, but I had not before seen or heard an adult (of any age) complain about the quality of the children's album, which actually was an award-winner.
I've only heard a song or two from it and it seemed fine (for kids) to me. I had no real need to hear the rest.
And please accept that I'm not angry with you. Other people might be. I'm sorry that a person can't post their thoughts on YouTube without being treated like dirt.
I'm sorry about that too. It's just...well here's the thing! "Weird Al" Yankovic who is my all time favorite musician of all time came out with a CD called Peter and the Wolf/The Carnival of the Animals Part II. That was Al's telling of the story of Peter and the Wolf and his sequel to Carnival of the Animals. It was meant mainly for kids. I loved it! Mostly because it was by my favorite artist of all time but also because it was as awesome as all of Al's other work!
Barenaked Ladies is my second favorite band of all time. This album just didn't fit what we've come to expect from them. (In my opinion) And one last thing because after this I'm not posting on this video anymore. With a name like Barenaked Ladies wouldn't that kinda be like parent repellent?
This was one of the first albums I ever bought... I listened to it non-stop. Great lyrics and it just makes you realize how beautiful music can be when it's done right.
you are fucking clown shoes. I am not dissing you because you are open minded to the band. I am dissing you because you said steven can burn in hell and he 'doesnt have the guts' to continue on. idiot. you understand nothing.
Steven can burn in hell? What the fuck? Because he left a band to do some of his own music? If thats a reason to wish that upon someone, then you're just a shallow minded cunt.
such a beautiful song. and I love love love the bathroom sessions. it's music at it's purest form. I just stared playing the guitar and I got so much respect for Ed. It get me inspired to play and learn
I love this song. I picked up a guitar for the first time, and this is the first thing I wanted to learn. BNL's just a wonderful source of inspiration. Thanks you guys.
Wow. I've known this song since the 90s but I just looked up "hydrofield" (its Canadian English for the area around high powered electrical lines) and it makes a lot more sense now. :-)
haha when I first heard this song it was in this video. I always thought the words were,"light up my art." It wasn't until I bought the stunt album till I found out it was,"light up my yard."
My favourite bnl song ever, an instant classic too under appreciated. Love it studio, love it live well done. Some one tell me when they're touring again please!!!
Nothing against Ricky Martin? Why not? He's awful...
Agreed on your point though, this is one tune that has definitely stood the test of time, and will likely be just as stunning as it always has been in another decade's time :)
I think this may be the most underrated songs by the Barenaked Ladies. No one that I know seemed to take Stunt all that seriously because of One Week. Glad to see Ed playing the great songs of BNLs past.
For the longest time I skipped over One Week for that very reason. Recently I realized that it really is a great song, it's just a shame that it has to have the status of being the song that people associate the album with.
Think about it, it seems out of place and yet if it weren't on the album, it wouldn't be the same.
Most people would think I'm exaggerating but I believe Stunt to be THE perfect modern pop album. Perfect mix of BNL songwriting and 'something else' & up there with Rubber Soul
TY ED!! You don't realize how great this is for all of your "ED" fans and BNL fans!!! As a canuck living abroad, I send a HUGE THANKS and MUCH LOVE!!
Oh thanks Ed. This is awesome! I was living in London in 1998 and had to pay £20 for Stunt because the US import was the only copy available. I grew up at Morningside/Sheppard and this song in particular (along with the reference to Birchmount Stadium) reminded me of home. One of my all-time favorite songs. I bet this bathroom isn't far from a Hydro field.
I love this song. It was the first song I learned on guitar... Well, my friend taught me the main riff from "Enter Sandman", but this was the first one I learned to play all the way through. Thanks, Ed!
