  • I wanna see a Bathroom Sessions with all 4 of you in the room

  • Ed Robertson is a very underappreciated part of BNL. I love Steven Page...but his solo stuff sucks. This guy is the fucking soul.

  • How amazing would it be to sit around a campfire with Ed?

  • Pure artistry and pure talent. This song one of my favorites of all time.

  • i grew up listening to BNL and i still love it!!

one band that i will NEVER stop loving!!!

  • Stunt, my all time favorite album !!!!

  • you are my idol.....i love your music and always will.

  • the BNL's never get old...could listen to them all day everyday.

  • "we can dance to the radio station...that plays in our teeth" BEST LINE OF LYRICS!!!!!!!!

  • I used to fall asleep to this song because it almost guaranteed I'd have good dreams.

  • This is real music bnl i been listen to them since 93 the best!

  • you really need to start teaching people your songs in your videos!!!!!

  • Great song. One of the greatest Canadian albums ever.

  • The foam on the creek is like pop and ice cream...simply amazing lyrics in this song.

  • ARE YOU LISTENING GAGA AND THE REST!!!!!! THIS IS MUSIC!

  • I love this song, it means a lot and makes me feel happy again.

  • This song makes me feel happy inside and out, without fail, every time.

  • Can you do a tutorial on this song please?

  • Ed, this song was one of my Favs back in 1999. I do it @ coffee shop gigs along with hello City. I tell my audience how much BN has influenced me and my song writing.

  • Thank you for putting all these videos up!! I love to cover your songs and trhis really helps!!!!

    Thanks AGAIN!!!

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs by them.

  • My favorite song by my favorite band!

  • 'andrewhenneman' is obviously retarded, at least socially. Ed, you are amazing!

  • Ed always had the soul of it.

  • I love this song. There is so much heart in it. <3

  • my favourite bnl song ever!

  • This song is epic.

  • The ladies will never be the same, agreed. I've always admired Steven's musical strength, his songwriting skills and vocal rarity, the Ladies will never be the same without him, no matter how many empty bottles of beer you smash down on Ed's head :)

Nevertheless, my nr. 1 band :)

  • uh what de buck happened to steven

  • He left the group to pursue a solo career. Things kind of began going down hill after the cocaine drug charges.

  • Heaven help me, I hope you're joking.

  • You do realize Snacktime was a children's album, right?

  • Yes. I totally know that but...never mind. I'm just saying it could have been a lot better. I wasn't too fond of most of the songs on Everything to everyone either but it was still somewhat good. I'm going to end it here before I anger anyone more.

  • OK. It seemed like a stupid question, but I had not before seen or heard an adult (of any age) complain about the quality of the children's album, which actually was an award-winner.

I've only heard a song or two from it and it seemed fine (for kids) to me. I had no real need to hear the rest.

And please accept that I'm not angry with you. Other people might be. I'm sorry that a person can't post their thoughts on YouTube without being treated like dirt.

  • I'm sorry about that too. It's just...well here's the thing! "Weird Al" Yankovic who is my all time favorite musician of all time came out with a CD called Peter and the Wolf/The Carnival of the Animals Part II. That was Al's telling of the story of Peter and the Wolf and his sequel to Carnival of the Animals. It was meant mainly for kids. I loved it! Mostly because it was by my favorite artist of all time but also because it was as awesome as all of Al's other work!

  • Weird Al is awesome. I've been listening to his stuff since I was a middle-teenager and "My Bologna."

  • Barenaked Ladies is my second favorite band of all time. This album just didn't fit what we've come to expect from them. (In my opinion) And one last thing because after this I'm not posting on this video anymore. With a name like Barenaked Ladies wouldn't that kinda be like parent repellent?

  • Never understood what 'hydro field' meant until I moved to Canada, haha

  • I was just thinking of this song today.

So I look on YouTube, and find an acoustic rendition by Ed.

    <3

  • This was one of the first albums I ever bought... I listened to it non-stop. Great lyrics and it just makes you realize how beautiful music can be when it's done right.

  • Same here! One of the first albums I can remember having. I listened to it so many times.

  • Ed is a great songwriter and gifted guitarist he will carry the band with the absence of Steven still my fav band ever BNL rock!!!!!

  • the GUTS?? lol you are an idiot

  • Comment removed

  • you are fucking clown shoes. I am not dissing you because you are open minded to the band. I am dissing you because you said steven can burn in hell and he 'doesnt have the guts' to continue on. idiot. you understand nothing.

  • Steven can burn in hell? What the fuck? Because he left a band to do some of his own music? If thats a reason to wish that upon someone, then you're just a shallow minded cunt.

  • This is a "co-write". In other words, they wrote this song together. That's why it always worked so well.

"Light up My Room" (Page, Robertson) 3:36

  • such a beautiful song. and I love love love the bathroom sessions. it's music at it's purest form. I just stared playing the guitar and I got so much respect for Ed. It get me inspired to play and learn

  • I love this song. I picked up a guitar for the first time, and this is the first thing I wanted to learn. BNL's just a wonderful source of inspiration. Thanks you guys.

  • Ed is so hot I wish he were my man! ♥

  • Probably my all-time favorite BNL song.

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time, ever, by anyone. So beautiful.

  • I love this song |D

  • Long time favourite song. It's just so beautiful.

  • Wow. I've known this song since the 90s but I just looked up "hydrofield" (its Canadian English for the area around high powered electrical lines) and it makes a lot more sense now. :-)

  • yea they're quite fun to play in just dont climb the towers its illegal......stupid cops "Protecting me"

  • He he.

  • when this song started i thought i was hearing "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls

  • haha when I first heard this song it was in this video. I always thought the words were,"light up my art." It wasn't until I bought the stunt album till I found out it was,"light up my yard."

I love this song. Imma learn to play it someday.

  • Great concert last night at Rama, I wish they had played this song though...its my fav.

  • My favourite bnl song ever, an instant classic too under appreciated. Love it studio, love it live well done. Some one tell me when they're touring again please!!!

  • Best Ed song, best Stunt song, best album. It is absolutely perfect! gorgeous guitar!

  • I was SOOOO happy to hear this song at the July 12 show. This is my FAVORITE!!! LOVE IT!!! Much love and support!!

  • Too few people know this song. Its incredible, and has been for a decade. After ten years, it remains a ridiculously good song.

Try saying that for 'Livin La Vida Loca' (Nothing against Ricky Martin)

  • Nothing against Ricky Martin? Why not? He's awful...

Agreed on your point though, this is one tune that has definitely stood the test of time, and will likely be just as stunning as it always has been in another decade's time :)

  • You have no idea how glad I was to see you had this video. I looove this song. Stunt was an underrated album.

  • I think this may be the most underrated songs by the Barenaked Ladies. No one that I know seemed to take Stunt all that seriously because of One Week. Glad to see Ed playing the great songs of BNLs past.

    He is amazing!

  • For the longest time I skipped over One Week for that very reason. Recently I realized that it really is a great song, it's just a shame that it has to have the status of being the song that people associate the album with.

Think about it, it seems out of place and yet if it weren't on the album, it wouldn't be the same.

Most people would think I'm exaggerating but I believe Stunt to be THE perfect modern pop album. Perfect mix of BNL songwriting and 'something else' & up there with Rubber Soul

  • That was a reply to NelsonClay's comment. I'm not sure why YouTube doesn't thread comments correctly. Grr.

  • Best song off of "Stunt", by far. Although "Call and Answer" is a very closed second.

  • Dare I say this is my favourite "Ed song"? Yes, I dare to say that.

  • These Guys Are My Fav Band

  • I LOVE this song

  • One of my favorite songs from one of my all-time favorite albums. :)

  • My favorite song!

  • If you compile all of these on a DVD, I'll buy it!

  • Mhmm.

  • you should make a cd out of all these bathroom sessions

  • Love it. You guys have to do Straw Hat & old dirty Hank

  • agreed

  • SQUEE!! Thanks Ed!

  • HEY!! Where's my comment?? It was there yesterday.

    Anyways,

I was thrilled that you posted this, I started crying.

I love this sooo much. Thank you BNL, and thank you ED for posting this!!

  • TY ED!! You don't realize how great this is for all of your "ED" fans and BNL fans!!! As a canuck living abroad, I send a HUGE THANKS and MUCH LOVE!!

  • I love, love, love this song. It's been one of my all-time favorites since Stunt came out. It just makes me happy.

  • Awesome! Thank you Ed!

  • very cool man!

  • Awesome thank you so much for all of these vids. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Always makes me feel relaxed and at peace.

  • Oh thanks Ed. This is awesome! I was living in London in 1998 and had to pay £20 for Stunt because the US import was the only copy available. I grew up at Morningside/Sheppard and this song in particular (along with the reference to Birchmount Stadium) reminded me of home. One of my all-time favorite songs. I bet this bathroom isn't far from a Hydro field.

  • thanks Ed.

  • lighting up our lives, one song at a time!! keep the coming...THANK YOU!!!

  • I love this song, I was hoping you would do it. Thank You!!!!

  • I love this song. It was the first song I learned on guitar... Well, my friend taught me the main riff from "Enter Sandman", but this was the first one I learned to play all the way through. Thanks, Ed!

  • Wow, it's like you know how to play EVERY Barenaked Ladies song. How DO you do it?!

  • THANK YOU! I absolutely adore this song, and you. You're so fantastic I hope you realize how much this means to all of us fans. <3 Hope you had a good Easter xo

  • We used this for our first dance when we got married... Love it.

  • Shh, don't tell Mr. Page but ever since I heard Gordon the first time I liked your songs best! Everytime you add one of these I hope it's "When I fall". I can't wait till I get to hear that one in the WC.

  • You = Awesome!

  • Incredible. absolutely magnificent. Bravo.

  • my old roommate would play guitar in the bathroom, but totally not in the same context as you do..and you play way better than him, too..you've restored my faith in the bathroom-dwelling guitar player
