So I ordered an Atari 7800 awhile ago and I just noticed it still had a plastic strip over the silver area. When I removed, it was so shiny. so awesome.
@roytje1993 The 7800 was released after the NES yes but it was made years before, it was actually made to be Atari's answer to the Colecovision but didn't get released due to the home console market crash of 1984. So when Nintendo finally brought over the NES stateside and revived the home console market Atari decided to dust off the 7800 pro system. It's also interesting to note that Atari almost had the rights to release the NES here in the states but the crash killed that deal. .
but yeah luls. The deal actually fell apart because Atari discovered that Nintendo also published Donkey Kong on the ColecoVision, which was one of Atari's competitors ^^;
Yes, I had both. Centipede on the 5200 was actually closer to the arcade than this version. But one thing that isn't really showing up here on youtube is that the mushrooms on the 7800 version actually have a kind of 3-d effect that neither the arcade or the 5200 version had. The 7800 version also allowed for 2 players to play together at the same time and not just alternating turns. It was way cool.
These comments have *nothing* to do with this review. Why bother ppl? Anyway, great review! I love this version of the game... The 7800 is just great.
Centipede/Millipede are my favorite classic games, ever since I was a kid. I find it challenging, and very fun. Worth coming back to over and over again all the time. It's awesome!
I have a Sears Video Arcade II, possibly the best 2600 made, but is it worth it to upgrade? The 7800 has awesome graphics and is backwards compatible, but it has a small library of games I already own perfectly emulated on PS one, PS2, 360, etc. The 5200 can't play the old games and the graphics aren't as good as 7800, but the library is so unique and I find it interesting how the games aren't lame as 2600, yet not as official looking as the 7800 games.
I have an old Atari Club Magazin from 1984. There is a record from a german Centipede Atari 2600 Player (World Final).
Attention!!!The Score is: 297517 in 20 minutes. I dont think that the X-Box 360 and PS3 Player with her High-resolution-graphics can play this highscore today. Her hands are much to slow. That this highscore is possible shows the record. All NEW X-Box and PS3 Gamer dosen't comes in the near of this record. The Atari Gamers from the 80' are the real Videogame-Masters!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well the 7800 came out AFTER the NES. My friend bought his and we loved it. But mainly since we could play the 2600 games on it as well the 7800 games. Cool video!
It was initially supposed to be out in 1984, but when Jack Tramiel took over Atari that July 2nd, he initially dismissed it at the time so as to concentrate the company's resources towards its computer division.
well the more expensive models anyway which can be really annoying.I mean why do I need a 60gb version just for the backwards compatibility why can't I just use the 20gb?
As I have said, Sony wants to continue support for the PS2, which is good, I don't beleve everyone wants to fully jump to the PS3, depsite how Sony tries to market their Playstation products (PS3 and PSP) they're game systems, so all the extra features to play movies, mp3s, surf the web, are all not necessary, yes, it is a great features, but, most of us get PSP or PS3 or even PS2 for one thing, and thats games.
I love the Atari 2600, just hooked it back up. But I GOT to find me a 7800. Only played it a few times back in the day but I loved it.

A time when games were played for fun and the only achievement you cared about was being number 1 in the Hall of Fame.

The 360 doesn't really have much invested in HD-DVD. It's just an addon.
