  • my cousin is a sargent and hes out there somewhere....

  • i never use hi/lo it sounds like a european cop. we sometimes mess around with it but just get a laugh out of it.

  • i prefer the hi/lo,i dont know why,i just do.

  • Somebody say officer down? OOps!

  • This is an post 9/11 anti-terrorism measure of the NYPD. The NYPD at least once a day appears at a high-target location in Manhattan with dozens of police cars and just stands around. They are trying to show any "terrorists" watching how deep and strong the NYPD is and they do this to reassure the public. Veteran New Yorkers like myself are no longer phased by it b/c we see it EVERYDAY but the tourists fall over themselves snapping photos and shooting video.

  • The NYPD surge drills did not start as a response to Sept 11, 2001. The first "surge" was held in June of 2004 - two and a half years after 9/11. The reason they were initiated was for the city to prepare for the potential protests and disruptions during the Republican National Convention. There was not a single drill prior to June 2004.

I guess now though, they do it to deter terrorists, but that was not the initial reason for the drills.

  • Police eating Donuts its a Stereotype Made by Movies.. COPS dont eat donuts its not true... some of them do..actually we all do.. but not like movies put it.." Box of donuts everywhere and the front desk" Not TRUE !!

  • Man that Hi/Lo Tone sounds soooo sweet

  • Here in Sweden the police use Hi/Lo sirens ^^

  • i know all over Europe too they have them. except the uk and i'm not so sure about spain.

  • spain has very similar sirens to the usa one's

  • WOW, that's a ton of cars! who was left on patrol then? lol

  • Probaly about 15 units.

  • can som1 send me a surge drill in the bronx plz

  • Usually, the NYPD only does Surge drills in Manhattan.

  • Bad time to pull up a rifle

  • thats just about how many police cars the Madison police has

  • Yep. thats a surge drill for ya

  • super ı like nypd car

  • Holy...WOW....I would have had a stroke if I saw that...

  • mobilization training.

  • yeah...i saw this program on the NYPD's anti-terrorism unit and they said that this is one of their tactics in keeping potential terrorist on their toes. They're basically setting up in that formation in a random location...

  • that was several "critical response" cars from about 76 pct's., 9 psa's, 12 transit districts, 8 patrol boros and whatever else car they can get conducting a "surge" on high profile potential terrorist threats...a waste in gas and overtime if you ask me lol...

  • this is incredible! I'd like to sit in one of these cars and drive with lights and sirens on. I wanted to become a cop in NY but I live in Germany so I might travel to NY when I'm a cop here in Germany and drive with them on patrol.

  • kick ass

  • no body died, but it is bascally a show for the tourists. There is one car from every police precinct. This is how they would meet up in case of another event like 911

  • that random car is prob. a unmarked impala, think about it.

  • thats tite

  • im thinking one of there buddies died and that was in his honour or suppn...they dont train liek that in the sight of everyone plus what would they be learnig??how to put a random car in the middle of all a them???? lolol.

  • They do this in respect when an officer dies, yes. :)

  • @ScottsOne Not in this case. It is a surge drill often done in NYC as a random show of force.

  • cool video! never seen so many police cars in my life... nice

  • lol what was that all about?

  • hmmm.....how did that one random car get in there? Lol...anyways...
