Bill uses 7/8" wide strip, but you can use 6” x 1” 20 gauge. He soldered these before the demonstration. They can be made from silver, copper, or brass.

It would be good to know what gauge brass was used for this design. Bill Fretz says 2" x 7/8" but doesn't say what gauge he's working with.
