  • Vivian hates Dio because of the way he paid and treated his band members early on. Dio made promises about proper compensation and never made good on it. Dio tried to save face over the years by bad mouthing Vivian but the truth is Vivian made Dio look good and was a cheap bastards back then.

  • Anyone that thinks Vivian isn't a good Guitar Player is an idiot and should jump off a bridge.

  • lol this is before he started to sound like shit, and play that whining leopard music :D :D

  • lol i have always wanted a rack

  • I like Vivian cause he is from my homeland.

  • this guy is a real cunt he loves himself soooo much he is a wank guitarist

  • Hmmm. He's got a Tom Anderson Guitar.. That manufacturer will custom make, your dream Axe.. They also have Les Paul bodys..

  • man up and use a head!

  • @ukshrednoodle You mean like the Randall tube amp head he introduces at 1:57? Or is there another head that you speak of?

  • @ibanezzer1 i mean instead of all that fridge junk he uses AS WELL at 1:57 ;) ;)

a good amp is enough. even a Randall

  • @ukshrednoodle Shit NO! I love my effects. I can't live without them. The ability to customize tone is like the ability to shape the world.

  • @ibanezzer1 true.

i just think having NASA to do your fx is overkill!

  • @ukshrednoodle Hell if ya can afford NASA, by all means! :)

  • I love his awesome solo in "hungry for heaven". He was good back then, when he had balls. What a waste of talent

  • Ow, how sad... when he got his firt deal he had just a JCM800 and a distortion box =/

    Poor boy

  • i see eventide h3000

  • I had huge racks, Bradshaw switching system, effects, preamps, poweramps, heads, etc. I sold all of that huge seup & now play through different Langner modded 70s Marshall tube heads, a HeadBone for amp switching, 4 Langner & Marshall 4x12 cabs, a few custom guitars Wayne Charvel built & a few T.C. Electronics effects w/ a GCX Ground Control Pro & Audio Switcher. It's simpler (& more portable!), but the sound is huge & the tone is unbelievable. This video is old tech, but sounds really good.

  • My above point was, that you don't need a large setup like Vivian's in this video anymore, to get all of these options, but a lot of it (tube/analog, but remaining quite and not stealing tone) is important, as are the right (passive) pickups, wood and pickup selector combos. Simple is better, unless you have big stadiums to play dozens of sounds at the switch of a hat in front of, but you can do it more simply now-a-days. Still, good stuff in the video. :-)

  • get a haircut

  • The only person in whole earth who said something bad about DIO!!

Guess we'll all see u in hell, Vivian!

    R.I.P R.J.DIO

  • @XenoType008 You tit.

  • Wow. Now that's an ass chin. great guitarist too.

  • nice brow.

  • Take a look at him at 0:56!!!

    He is fucked up!!!!

  • Quit looking and start listening, you are just lookin' that is for me, my attention span!

  • Quit looking and start listening, you are just lookin'

  • This video is dated of course. Vivian now has returned to his Les Pauls, without tremolos. You can mimic a lot of normal vibrato without a tremolo, as George Lynch does frequently when he reaches for his Tele to play old Dokken songs.

  • I agree...playing a guitar without a whammy bar takes away from the guitars full capacity. In recent years, guys like Campbell and Gilbert have unfortunately fallen into the trend of not using one.

  • Is he a Hot Guitarist?!?!?!?

  • @jfr04 Yes he has a temperature, has taken a paracetamol and is starting to feel better now.

  • HEY GUYS........HOT GUITARIST IS HOT

  • That's a huge chin..

  • sht! that's awesome! i haven't cn it years and still have that vhs somewhere home! :)

  • This specific video is from a VHS called "Hot Guitarist".

  • where do u get all these videos

  • i love vivians solo in rainbow in the dark, wish dio could continue but r.i.p RJD, the best rock singer ever, like if u agree

  • @ryangotajackson check out the solos on Hungry for heaven, the last in line, Hide in the rainbow and Lock up the wolwes awesome solos to die for ! :)

  • Anyone ever met this guy in person? I've heard he is a major douche.

  • @cyphixx now a days he's a nice guy, here in this video though he got full of himself

  • @vigierandprsrule That's good to hear. I've always liked Campbell as a player but that would have spoiled it, if he is known as a jerk.

  • @cyphixx yeah, but he will always be vivian, which isnt a good thing(remember what he said about dio in 03')

  • @vigierandprsrule ive met vivian campbell at a def leppard sining session in 2008.

nice guy , not a dick at all ... ive talked to him and about his time in whitesnake.

dont know why he said that shit about dio in 2003 , didnt dare to ask him lol.

apparently i heard from other that dio said that vivian was a bad guitar player and vivian got mad at dio.

not our fight , we should stay out of it ..

cool video vivian campbell rules !!

  • Vivian was Great ... back in the... day when he was on fire......

  • 2:59 Viv seem to need no slide...just amazing wow

  • Pretty shitty that hes losin the Northern Irish accent.

  • Phil will never have the full command of Vivian over the instrument. Viv's guitar knowledge is so diverse while I see Phil as a one-dimensional guitar player. What do Malmsteen, Hammett and Collen have in common? Redundancy! They keep on playing the same pattern over and over again. Not to take anything away from Phil, I mean, yeah, sure he's a good guitar player, no doubt about it. But it is what it is. Viv is just miles away from Phil.

  • Vivian the great! This guy is so much cooler, not to mention, way better than Phil Collen. I wonder why Phil gets to solo 90% of the time in Def Leppard when clearly, Vivian is the more talented guy.

  • @agavalence Vivian is great. Put Phil Collen is equally as good. Different styles that's all. Most of the classic Leppard solos are done by Phil. They do split them up pretty equal on the new records.

  • @agavalence Not to take anything away from Viv (who i think is a GREAT guitarist and songwriter). But your comment about Yngwie is just 100% wrong. He doesn't play the same pattern over and over. Not whatsoever. He's playing BACH lines, Hendrix, Blackmore, Paganini, and HIMSELF. His improvisational vocabulary reaches into rock, blues and classical. He can play for hours without repeating himself once. Yngwie is one of the greatest improvisers in history.

  • @ksmithdc I'm not a big Yngwie fan nor a hater. And I know, whatever I say about the guy, he will always be one of the greatest to ever play the instrument. Now, having said that, I still think Malmsteen is guilty of playing almost the same pattern over and over. I'm not at all saying that he's limited to just that, but he really does. Maybe that's his comfort zone, know what I'm sayin'? And it's pretty much evident in the G3 vids. He's a hell of an improviser, but does the same thing repeatedly

  • @agavalence Vivian has been doing the same thing for 20 years. He has his style just like Phil. I believe Vivian has one trademark solo from his Dio days and that's about it. I could point out a dozen or so for Phil. Viv has also stated being upset he never could play in the Malmsteen style. I think they compliment each other tremendously.

  • @beansandcornbread Viv puts a lot of different flavors into his playing. His phrasing alone is fantastic. While I certainly agree that Phil and Viv compliment each other, I still wish they split the guitar solo responsibilities into 50/50. He shouldn't be upset for not having the playing ability of Malmsteen 'coz in my opinion, Viv's got more taste than the Swedish master.
