  • God...

  • He is one of the guitarists out there that, after I watched him play, I don't know whether to go practice or just quit.

  • a million guitarists can copy his playing...but none can compose riffs and solos like he does..he is god..

  • YEAH MAN! The king himself! This man and Gary Moore were the biggest influences on me as a player. And if you look at the date folks, 1980 - really even before the term shred was around.

Michael Schenker is just amazing!! - Dannyjoe

  • He is not only an musician and great guitarist, but an high sophisticatet artist as well.

  • so fucking tasteful !! he is a monster guitar player , and friendly guy too. he gave me some legato tips that really helped me out as well .

  • so fucking tasteful !! he is a monster guitar player , and friendly guy too.

  • I Love UFO

  • Just fuckin around lookin almost bored and he's still cleanest fastest axe on this planet

  • Michael Schenker ist mein Idol hoffe, er kommt irgendwann nach Schweden!

  • michael schenker är min idol hoppas att han kommer till sverige nån gång!!

  • When Michael's on form. there's no one better..

  • everybody shut up and listen God is playin`...

  • Fastest and tastiest 3 fingers ever!!!!

  • SCHENKER !!!!!!!!!! YES !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I watched this on my break here at work love it much amazing thanks for posting this

  • The thing about Michael, no matter how many times you hear him play a certain song he's always throwing in little different things to make it interesting probably for himself and the listener, amazing tone, vibrato, choice of notes, melody, he's got it all, just too bad he's so underrated

  • god like!!! to say the kleast

  • If you think Shenker is wack listen to the first Scorpions album Lonesome Crow where Michael is only 15 and he plays come crazy riffs and shit

  • Axe I'm sure you can tell me the real story about What happened to this Historical guitar! It belongs in the Rock Icon Archives somewhere!! I Just scored the Dean Sckenk Retro model so now I've got V mania. I just gotta get used to that big ass flyswatter headstock! Gibson were GOOBERS not to recognize Michael with a signature series. I for one would have payed some G's to own one! Thanks again for all you do!

  • does this MS have the best vibrato ever?

  • @diagreen Him and Brian May.

  • @diagreen yea i think your right

  • i hate to write this cos ive been listening to schenker for ever ,to say he's a shredder is just silly ,he's so much more , he's melodic , a tonal monster , the most beautiful vibrato, and really original as well as fast , but not just for the sake of being fast ,like van halen , you know its him when you hear him , have your say , sure , but know what your saying ,

  • I still get goosebumps. I suspect he sees music the way regular people read a book. If we could read 6 books at once. I don't listen to any shred music but a lot of Schenker. To call him a shredder is an insult. As inaccurate as calling him hair metal. Amazing

  • - Michael Schenker isn't my favorite guitarist. But since I value melody a lot in a guitar solo, he kinda influenced me big time. He showed me how important a great melody is.

  • haha mistake at 0:30.....but he is still awsome

  • Michael Schenker is STILL waaay beyond all the clonish shredders and Schrapnel carbon-copies that proliferated in his wake...hiis style is wider and better informed than most. VH borrowed a LOT from Michael. His approach, style and playing is now cannon in the history of rock guitar. So what if the newbs or alt/post-grungies don't care; all they know is it isn't cool if you get good at playing...when I taught EVERYONE wanted to learn Schenker solos.

  • i think its just my opinoin had Schenker say picked out an SG or a Les Paul he wouldnt be the Artist he is today, listen to jimmy page all his stuff is les paul theres a sound that each guitar creates when you Hendrix u know hes playing that Stratocaster. but have you heard Jimmy Hendrix playing the White 60s modle Flying V if ya have then youll say it to kinda sounds like Schenker.

  • @harrybigguy2gees - Well, yeah. The guitar is a factor or a part of each of the legend's distinct sound you know. That's why they kinda picked out that specific guitar and got away with it. A good reason too, why some great guitar players have their own signature guitar.

  • I still think he's over rated

  • @dwood16 then you don't know his music!

& he is all original, does not rip other artists music like good old Zep!!

  • I know his music very well and he is a good shredder who is kinda neo-classical like Rhoads at times.. but I just don't prefer his style or note choices personally and he is pretty sloppy in my opinion. However, I still love watching him play and wouldn't want to be in guitar battle against him.

  • @dwood16

well that's the thing,he is not known as a Shredder,Rhoads was influenced by him,

I would say he is under rated ,seems like he never got the credit he deserved while others that learn from his style get more than they deserved!

He is a Melodic rock player!

  • Yeah but his real claim to fame is a fast run he made up and was the first to do, really.

  • @dwood16 He has always composed his own music & I've heard all his music released & unreleased & he is more than just a fast run inventor!

He has a very large history of music under his belt that alot more only dream of achieve!

maybe 'cause is not your favorite guitarist!

He is my favorite & the best for me but we all got our own favorites!

  • @AXEFLYERFV "SINGING notes! Not just mindless Staccato." (from Immortal Beloved) .. That phrase, along with this man, changed my life!!

  • @AXEFLYERFV i couldnt have said it better myself!it drives me crazy when i see polls that have guitarists like slash in the top 10 with no mention of schenker but even slash himself has stated that he sat down and figured out all the solos the force it album to get his chops.

  • @btflash55 Your input is much appreciated,I don't even bother to read those polls anymore & you know what really gets to me?

is that some people even make videos of top 10 or best guitarists & he is never mentioned, probably cos they never heard of him but I like all the MSG stuff that is now on youtube, back in 2006 ,they hardly had anything back then,so that is very comforting to see, Cheers mate!

  • @AXEFLYERFV i would like to know what idiots make these polls up. do any of these people even play guitar?i was reading a few the other day and there was one guitar player in the top three of each of these polls. keith richard! are they f###ing kidding me? i have students playing 6 months that could outplay him.yet not even any mention of schenker in the top 50.

  • @btflash55 For one thing I would like to see "NEW" the people that do these polls in Rolling stone & Guitar Player & other so called ROCK MAGAZINES get fired!

I won't even go into THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME [ SHAME ]...

A lot of people that are there don't belong ! what a joke!

  • If you research the better guitarists in rock for the past 30+ years, I bet you will see Schenker's name as being an influence. He is not only the king of melodic rock , he's a master of improvisation. No 2 solos of his sound the same. You listen to lets say 1 or 2 solos by Yngwie, youve heard about every solo he's done pretty much. Schenker Over rated? not hardly. You're just under informed

  • @believer06 I couldn't agree more,thnx for your input!

  • @believer06 right. I also think that schenker also inspired yngwie alot...

  • @turboneger Schenk inspired MANY More People that we, and sometimes even They, will Ever know. It's like.. THAT's how you're SUPPOSED to play!

  • INCREDIBLE! Thank you for posting!

  • KILLER tone! in his hands. Just one of the all-time greatest metal/rock guitarist. His influence on what would become THE archetype shredder tone/phrasing is second to none.

  • Not much you can say about this is there - the man is so talented it's untrue - how do you get to be that good.................

  • Awesome guitarist. One of my all time faves. When I first heard "Too Hot To Handle" back in 1977, I became an instant fan of Michael Schenker.

  • Can you imagine all the badass shit he has played in his life time. Amazing.

  • @kingofthedeep Can you imagine all the bad ass shit he's played in his life time.. and Forgotten!!! cuz it didn't interest HIM!?!?

  • Wow!! Michael Schenker is one of my favorite guitarists!!

I'm glad to see the playing solo and riffs of "Save yourself". thank you very much!!

  • One of the greatest guitarists ever - his note choice is what amazes me as well as his spontaneity. He is incredible!

  • how is he doing that chime sound in the very beginning? I know it's natural harmonics, but it sounds creepy.

    I've heard it somewhere else.

  • He bends the strings 1 from top goes over the second & places the strings like a left hand guitar ,he does the same at begining of Lost Horizon live version not this one but the same chime!

GENIUS<ORIGINAL & SELF TAUGHT NO NEED FOR TABS!!!!

  • haha I'm lost man, I don't get it.

  • No problem,I'll send you the video where Schenker explains & shows how he does it!

  • thanks apreciate it!

  • you're welcome!

  • hey axe jsbach here long time/ where might i purchase that entire michael schenker film that was the fuckin bomb thanks ... hows it going whats poppin get back if you can peace bro later thanks :)

  • this is the best

  • just wonderfull playin ... i seriously believe him when he says that he is gone when he is on stage, you can hear that he is in another space and time while playin that beautiful leads!! just great!

  • amazing

  • No sabía que podía tocar neoclásico también.

    Nunca deja de sorprenderme Michael!

    Saludos desde Guatemala Axe!!!

  • Igualmente mano,te cuidas y gracias por la visita a la pagina del Maestro Schenker!

  • Cheers for the vid - brought it all back that did!

I'm pretty sure that from 3:00 on is from a guitar instructional video that was done in the 80's. I remember it being previewed on the Old Grey Whistle Test - of which I've got on tape somewhere.

    Brilliant stuff!

  • he shreds and he don't even have a need for a floyd. that is awesome to meeeee

  • inspiration to all of the modern guitar players...

    Best among best.

  • Michael is truely one of the greatest. amazing! incredible! Glad he's off the booze and touring again.

  • Gotta luv this mazeman!!!

  • I have been a Schenker fan for over 25 years. The first time I showed my girlfriend some of his stuff she kept saying "My God". I sat and smiled.

  • Thanks Axe

  • He is one of the greatest. That solo on Love to Love...man that just blows my mind!

  • The influence on Yngwie and even Gary Moore is obvious. He's badass.

  • I wonder if the lads in UFO taught him to speak English, giving him that interesting accent.

  • I think he did learn alot with them even the partying aswell!

  • Ha. Yeah, that too.

  • "Michael Schenker with some comments and killer riffs & licks from late 1980 and early 1980. "

    From late 1980 and early 1980? :p

  • So talented, so beautiful...

  • Schenker is the Master!

When he's right, nobody can touch him.

    He's the BEST...period.

  • lost f----ng horizon. damn. this was sweet !! schenker can't be stopped. my man next to frehley and rhodes.

  • was he in the band UFO?????

  • yeah,from 1973 to 1978/79!

    Best guitarist UFO ever had!

  • he is the man

  • Schenker kicks *ss. A true guitar virtuoso.

    T

  • fucking awesome i love his style

  • Rock God in the House !!!!!

  • I agree!

  • Thanks AXEFLYERFV for posting this cool clip !!!. One of my favorite guitar players since the Force It l.p. Nice to hear that Michael is a fan of Leslie West !!!

  • you're welcome,thnx for tuning in!

  • great video ! thanks ! is it the concert of One night at Budokan ?

  • I don't think it is!

  • Right on brother!

  • seen him back in the 80's at the sun dome, was soooo excited to see him cuss he's one of my favorites, and they had him turned down so low you could hardley hear him, i was FRICK'N PISS'D !!!!!, but it was a good show.

  • He is the best guitarplayer

  • Great video 'Axeflyerfv' keep em coming !

We're relying on you to find UFO 'Strangers In The Night' whole concert on Dvd !!!

  • That has become my bedtime pray for a long time,I.m still keeping the faith on it, have you checked your inbox,I replied to your question!thnx for your comment Ray !

  • Shhhhh, god is playing

  • Hehe, hell yeah!

    Schenker rocks!!

  • infact make that 100%

  • you ovbiously did not read the comments in order but no problem: jlevyx asked what song at 1:28 that's save yourself & mestretolkien asked what song at 4:20 & that was Lost Horizon,I know all the Schenker songs ,but thnx for your comment!

  • oh ryte yeh diudnt see ur comment lol

  • what's the name of the song at 4:20?

  • It's called Lost Horizon from his debut MSG album,1980.

    I have posted about 9 live & audio-track versions,this is 1 of them:

    MICHAEL SCHENKER [ LOST HORIZON ] [I] LIVE 1984.

  • hey axe, whats the song at 1:28?

  • I have posted different versions mostly audio-tracks of this song, but this is the only live video of it but different singer, thnx 4 watching!

    MICHAEL SCHENKER [ SAVE YOURSELF ] LIVE.'97.

  • 90% percent sure its lost horizons of michael schenker group 1980 ;)

  • King... The guy @ 8:00 is Richard Thompson. I great British guitarist but not of the same style... more eclectic than a shredder.

    FYI!

  • What is greatly missing in the comments on Schenkers ability, is his ability at improvisation.

  • Axe! who is the guy at 8:00, and what is Ron Wood doing on here?lol

  • The old part of an interview that starts at 3:12 iws part of a documentary, and they had other guitarist (Wood) commenting,I don't know who the guy is at 8:00 but I know is a known guitarist, somebody told me his name years ago but I forgot,I'm sure there are videos of him on youtube!

  • Schenker the best

  • He sounds like a cross between Dot Cotton and Danny the Dealer from 'Withnail and I'.

    Presuming Ed.

  • what an amazing guitarist.

can someone expert tell me whos better,

    Michael Schenker or Matthias Jabs?

  • Both of them are great. It's not a matter of being better.

  • yeah, i guess ure right.

    thanks

  • Michael Schenker is far superior, but Matthias has the style.

  • AWESOME!!! Priceless video!! I love M and UFO. I'm 46 and teach guitar at a store with a lot of other younger teachers and they really have no appreciation for Michael Schenker. They just don't get it. He was way ahead of the curve in his hey day, but beyond that he's just so lyrical and gifted. He can make you cry and then slam you to the pavement all in one song. God bless him he's one of the all time greats. ROCK ON!!!!

  • Wow! You stole all of my sentiments and words (LOL!) I am 42 and have been teaching for 19 years, and I know what you mean about Schenker going underappreciated. I'm fortunate in that a few of my teaching colleagues are just a few years younger than I, so they also have an appreciation of Schenker. Whenever I'm asked about my influences, I ALWAYS make a point to mention Michael Schenker! I especially dig his UFO-era stuff ("Obsession" & the live "Strangers In The Night" are two of my favorites.)

  • and hes really underated too!ive seen many polls about whos the best rock guitarest ,and he doesnt even place in the top 50!personally , i dont think theres anyone better.

  • I share the same feeling, thnx for your comment,I don't even bother to check the polls anymore,it pisses me off when I see who's names are on as the best guitarists!

  • i saw one poll that had the guitarest from red hot chili peppers, john frusciante in the top five all -time!i stopped reading the polls after that!just an aside, i met michael schenker in 1995 in new york at the limelight and he was a very nice, quiet ,down to earth guy.

  • Right on brother!

  • In 'Guitar Heroes' u.k. magazine from 1982, he came top of 100, readers fav player .... so Number 1, where he belongs !

  • on most lists he is among the five

  • none that ive seen. not that i disagree . hes #1 on my list.i think i just saw a recent rolling stone magazine poll and he wasnt even in the top 100!but ,then i think most of these polls are done by fans rather than guitarists!although i know a lot of guitar players whose main knock on schenker is that they think he has no soul or feeling when he plays!of course, i dont agree with that, but everyone is entitled to their opinion!

  • Thats funny, the guys is ALL feeling to me. One of THE best emotive players around.

  • Are you kidding me. You know a lot of guitar players who knock Schenker for not playing with emotion? My god that a joke. They obviously don't listen to UFO/MSG/Scorps. Thats all he is, Schenker plays with more emotion, vibrato, speed, phrasing, ect than any guitar player in his era except for maybe Uli Roth.So many great different sounding songs/solo's. He was a prodigal child and a master of masters on guitar.

  • I love Save Yourself! MS really does THE solo on this music!

  • awesome! Is he had a piercing in his tonque?

  • This is jaw-dropping! That awesome precision and sound in the same package.

  • That's incredible! Michael Schenker is kicking ass without all that over the top distortion. He's plugged straight into a Marshall and using the amps own distortion to get that godly tone.

So many "shredder type" guys need that over saturated distortion to sound good. Not Michael. He's simply amazing.

  • YES- listen to Michael's playing on the UFO Album "Walk on Water" it's like his "Obsession" sound. but he has become so much better.

Anyway Best UFO Song - Hot'n Ready !!!!

  • Such a gorgeous tone!

  • Schenker is an emotive MONSTER on guitar!!!

  • michael sei veramente micidiale!

    msg is the law!

detoniamoci di bionda tedesca e apriamoci il culo di flyng v alla spina!!

  • One of the great originals!

    Thanks for posting it!!!

  • AXE, do you know if the video of Lost Horizons used at the end of this is on this site?

I can't thank you enough for uploading all of these great clips.

  • I doubt it very much that anybody has posted it,I think that footage is from one of the shows from Japan,(One night at Budokan,ERA)

thnx for watching,if I happen to be so lucky to run into that footage I'll let you know!my apology for mistakenly clicking on the poor comment instead of the good comment!

  • is the riff at 2:00 from a song and do you know the name of it? kicks ass

  • for the live versiontype:

    MICHAEL SCHENKER [ SAVE YOURSELF ] LIVE.'97.

    and for audio version version:

MICHAEL SCHENKER [ SAVE YOURSELF ] RARE LIVE AUDIO-TRACK

    thnx 4 watching!

  • Thanks for guy gave this film, it remind me how great he was. He is the guy had given us way to give a own colour to our imstruments.

    Nobody has ever shown it.

Or can you show me somebody else like we ganna have to see?

  • fucking brilliant - the master at work - schenker - much maligned but SHIT the boy can burn like no other......who else can play anything like him? no one.
