  • Epic: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia.

Good: Pirates of the Caribbean, Hunger games

    Shit: Twilight

  • Dumbledore I wonder who that's based off of....hint gandalf??

  • I think it should be like:

Epic: Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, Ranger's Apprentice, Narnia

    Good: Pirates of the Caribbean

    Ok: Harry Potter

    Shit: Twilight

  • Epic: Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (haven't seen any, I'm just going by what RT says), Harry Potter

    Good: Hunger Games, Pirates, Narnia

    Shit: Twilight

    can we all agree?

  • @chichigirrl2 100% AGREED!

  • I love both stories, but Harry Potter is my childhood and Lord of the rings is my life.

  • LoTR.

HP steals quite a bit from LoTR, and LoTR is much better.

  • BOTH ARE AWESOME DUH!

    THEY AIN'T NO TWILIGHT :P

  • Harry Potter is an amazing series in which I enjoyed greatly, certainly one of the best series that's out there.

However, Lord of the Rings is better. If you care to argue, please do, I'm open to any constructive arguments you have. (Calling me a fucktard lotr fanboy isn't a valid argument)

  • I prefer Harry Potter, but Lord of the Rings are ultimately better books and better films

  • @TheDudeMcDude Great comment.

  • Sorry to be brutal, but anyone of the belief that Harry Potter is even near The Lord of the Rings as a literary achievement is a fucking moron.

  • Both awsome

  • Let me know if anyone kept a straight face watching this... yeah, that's what I thought!

  • @cubbiefan26 and tolkien just wrote a book about beowulf it doesn't prove Tolkien got inspired (don't get me wrong I'm just saying my opinion) it just proves beowulf's importance at english literature.

  • @cubbiefan26 sorry I read it fast. in fact no one can know everything. I didn't said tolkien didn't had essays on beowulf it can be but not every fantasy book has to be about beowulf. a normal man cannot write a book about what somebody got inspired but if it's tolkien than it's alright. and beowulf is an old well-known mythical character and it has a good story and as a man of letters tolkien could got inspired. I only said that don't talk unfounded and not everything is about beowulf

  • I like this video.

Hmm, let me think.. you know, Harry Potter is a great movie (and the books are brilliant). But I also love Lord of the rings.. you know what?! I Love them both! :D

  • India stop abusing the account

  • lotr vote here

  • wow, i love how people are arguing about which is better. if you people knew anything you would know that both are almost exactly the same! the archetypes are almost exactly the same. and for all of the lotr fans saying that lotr came first, you should know that those stories were based off of the tales of king arthur so if you think you're story is completely original and never been done before you are incredibly ignorant.

  • @cubbiefan26 yes they are the same cause hp cheated from LOTR and LOTR doesn't have any similarities to king arthur stories except only gandalf THE GREY's APPEARANCE

  • @lortacfan you're an idiot. LOTR was influenced mainly by King Arthur, Beowulf, and the Bible. Well, the Hobbit mostly comes from Beowulf, but the return of a king to defeat evil is seen in LOTR (Aragorn) as well as King Arthur (Arthur) and the Bible (Christ) while woman as temptress is also seen in LOTR (the ring itself b/c its feminine), King Arthur (Morgan Le Fey) and the Bible (Eve, and some depict the devil coming to Christ in female form) I would go on but I don't have enough space

  • Comment removed

  • @cubbiefan26 I've gotta documentary about what Tolkien got inspired by national geographic I can tell you every war what tolkien got inspired (It' especially 2. world war as you can quess) but there is no arthur nor beowulf. So don't be such a smarty pant ignorant troll. and I can give you clues why I think hp cheated. rowling clearly cheated but tolkien didn't the authors of artur and tolkien said the same thing but in different and original ways.

  • @lortacfan so you mean to tell me there's nothing connecting Tolkien and Beowulf at all?

  • @cubbiefan26 at least not at the documentary. he was a linguist and he read numerous books and arthur is one of the best stories. he didn't said such thing but he could be inspired unwillingly.

  • @lortacfan the fact is that while a lot of what Tolkein wrote came from his own mind, you can apply the same archetypes to almost any "hero" story in history. King Arthur, the Odyssey, LOTR, Star Wars, Narnia, and now Harry Potter is the latest huge story where you can apply them to. It's not like I'm trying to attack the Lord of the Rings but to say that they are 100% original is a wrong statement. You can even apply these to almost every Disney movie.

  • @cubbiefan26 I can't say anything to arthur or odyssey they are novels. narnia is ok. but star wars was popular in 1900's when some other movies of it came out it became popular for few years but it is one of the most outmoded films. as for hp it is ok too but ONLY ok. we're livin' in a world and willingly or unwillingly we get inspired by it. In fact I didn't denied it. and as for LOTR a new movie of it is coming out and before it comes out most of the people know it will be a masterpiece.

  • @cubbiefan26

JRR Tolkein took those ideas and made it into his own original vision. JK Rowling had half original ideas and half rip offs of different stories and such.

  • @FranticFatality Same could be said for Star Wars, but instead you have to target Rowling, who actually has some pretty good writing ability. Why not go troll a Twilight video if you have this kind of time?

  • @cubbiefan26

    I'm not trolling....

Oh, and Star Wars actually did have an original vision. It had unique characters and ideas.

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!! I'm torn! I want them both to win! Exept Frodo. He sucks. He's always half dead. Why didn't Buckbeak kill him and put him AND Sam out of their misery!Oh yeah, poor Pippin! He's so cute!

  • @those2overthere he does not sucks he is frodo not you. why did you born? your question is just the same.

  • @lortacfan

    um is english your language?

  • @8missJZ8 yup do you have any problem with it, little grammar obsessed blind fanboy?

  • I love this soooooo much! way to go Fellowship and others!!!

  • Man,i am done with this ''no you said'' ''no i said'',please re-read your comment,

"Hp is a children's tale because the film was a catastrophe" and now re-read my comment.

"Rowling said the first 3 books were made for younger audience, ut 4-7 was pointed towards adults" meaning only 3 books ( The Philosopher Stone-The Chamber of Secrets-The Prisoner of Azkaban ) were child stories. In your terms Lord of the Rings is a child story cuz Tolkien said himself The Hobbit was written for children

  • @LifterC3 yes Hobbit were based as a children's story but still it is better than all Hp books. And all the other books are for adults. And still 4-7 are children's story. If Rowling tried to write them to adults that means SHE FAİLED.

  • @lortacfan You fail to understand me, Rowling ( like Tolkien ) wrote the first book for children and became really popular among kids. In the documentary about her life, she said that after the third book was published she recieved more adult fan-mail then child-fanmail... shortly after that her mother died to which influenced her work to, the 4th book became darker and more horiefing. Even Stephen King, on of the worlds best writers said so, and The Hobbit was in my opinion nothing special...

  • @LifterC3 Than stephen king (I don't know who he is I just heard his name) he thinks he is a good writer. He can't be the shit of tolkien. Tolkien wrote a classic like shakespeare or victor hugo or alexandre dumas. Does stephen king has his name in history books. I'm giving the answer...NO! But Tolkien does. And I'm saying it again 4-7th books was not for adults. If she tried to write a adults' story she failed. And hobbit is better than all the hp books.

  • @lortacfan WHATTT??? You dont know Stephen King? dude, that just settles it, you dont know fuck about literature besides Middle-Earth ( fuck is not meant as a insult btw ). Stephen King is one of the worlds most famous writers... how can you say he cant be the shit of Tolkien of you never heard of him.. i know, fanboyism...your talking about history books> i never saw Tolkiens name mentioned in any history books and i bloody study it.. Havent you ever head of IT or The Stand, Missery, Carrie...

  • @LifterC3 I said I didn't read his books that is what I meant yes I read all the classics and I can be a fanboy but I'm not a BLIND fanboy yes you know alot of fanboyism don't you. I was talking metaphorical when I said tolkien was in history books. And yes Tolkien is one of classic writers but I never heard stephen king is a classic writer. And we all know a normal famous writer is worse than a mighty writer like tolkien

  • @lortacfan Goddammit no ( Goddammit is not a insult btw ) thats not what you said, why cant you remember your own freakin ( freakin is not a insult btw ) comments when you wrote it like a hour ago?You said "stephen king, i don't know who he is I just heard his name" meaning you didnt know a fuck about who he is and not that you havent read any of his books ( fail )... stop defending your statement with worthless arguments, who cares if a writer is classic or not... do you even know what it means

  • @lortacfan I SAİD I HEARD HİS NAME SO THAT MEANS I KNOW HIM. I SAİD I DİDN'T READ HİS BOOKS. Why are you trying to controvert me? I know he is a writer but nothing more. That's what I said in both my comments. Yes I know what is a classic writer. And let me answer yo any good reader cares if the writer of a book is a classic writer or not. Yes my argument is worth to better ones than you. And I will defend my true statement.

  • @lortacfan GOD!!@!! you really are blind, are you... Let me spell it for you.

Y-O-U S-A-I-D -I- D-O-N-T K-N-O-W H-I-M... i am not trying to controvert you just to get my likes.. so what the fuck does it matter if a book is classic or not, it doesnt freakin change any quaility if its classic.. and it seems you dont know what fanboy mean, . lets take you for exampel..your favoring J.R.R Tolkien above King or Rowling, but you dont know shit about them.. thats why your argument is worthless..

  • @LifterC3 I meant I didn't know his books I said I heard him. Yes if it is a classic it is well. It doesn't change a quality of a book but it shows the quality of a book. No I'm not trying to favore anyone. And I read all Rowling's works. And I don't care about that steve queen thing. And we were not debating about stephen king you diverated the topic. So my argue is worth to better ones than you.

  • @lortacfan Steven King was a side note to my argument, but let me ask you again. WHy do you think Harry Potter is without depth and shallow> saying it is a child story is nt enough, to be honest when i first read The Hobbit i was astonished about how childish it was written compared with The Lord of the Rings,i thought Bilbo was a character withouth a proper backstory, and i didnt like his writing style. Compared with LOTR.. man,, i love it, i am reading it now actually, for the 7th time already

  • @LifterC3 I think it is a child story that's it because they are talking too much about love, and it is not written in a professional way. And you say hobbit was childish than why are you reading it for 7th time?

  • @lortacfan no, i am reading LOTR for the 7th time, and i dont mind child books.. i dont say The Hobbit is a bad book, but i think if LOTR was never written it would have never been so popular and i would have never read it out... but as a prequel to LOTR its fun, its fun the read some of the backstory of The Ring and how Bilbo met Gandalf and became the extrodinary person we know today. But withouth it, Bilbo, Gandalf Thorin and The Hill, seem depthless to me. thats my argument about the Hobbit

  • @LifterC3 How do you know maybe if LOTR was never written the hobbit would become popular instead of trilogy. You can never know what would happen if somethings gone different.

  • @lortacfan well duh, offcouse he is not gay, he has a son. But before i knew that, i thought he was because of the lack of love-relationship in 3 books long.. and something you could calculate how things would have ended .."if".. face it, the hobbit was a fun book, not bad but nothing special.. there have been written better stories.. and no i didnt ask you. I asked why you think HP has no depth and why you think it is shallow... it being a child story is not enough.

  • @LifterC3 there is love relationship. Just because they don't cry like babies as in harry potter that doesn't mean there is no love. İn LOTR love is at background because LOTR is not a romantic story LOTR is a war and heroic story. But love shapes all the story.the same facts I gave why I think it is a child story is same why it is shallow. Maybe hobbit was written as achild story and it is nothing when compared to trilogy it is still a very nice book. And I didn't deny hobbit was a child story.

  • @lortacfan sorry, we all have different respectives, but i am now at Book 3 where Frodo and Sam are entering Mordor. There hardly is any love relationship between the characters.. things like Aragorn falling in love with Arwen is mentioned on the background and thats it.. i know its war-time between Mordor and the free lands but it would have improved the story definitly. The Hobbit wasnt a war book and there was no love in there either. Just repeat the facts for me, why you think it has no dept

  • @lortacfan Its nice poetry to say love shaped the story i cant see the meaning of that. Please enlight that to me, what do you mean love shaped the story,.?

  • @LifterC3 (I'm talking about the movie) if arwen didn't loved aragorn she couldn't save frodo so that was the thing I was talking about there were a lot more relationships but I don't remember them quite enough I read them at silmarillion.

  • @lortacfan look, book=canon. The movies are awsome but they changed alot... it was never Arwen who saved frodo in the book so its a bit lame to say that small event shaped the whole trilogy. Does that mean that farmer maggot shaped the story to because he saved them, or did Gwahir shape the story by saving Gandalf. In HP love actually does play a big role, Harry defeated Voldemort by the power of love, and a Deus Ex Machima way, it was because Voldemort failed to understand the concept of love.

  • @LifterC3 yes I said clearly I'm talking about the FİLM and did you ever read silmarillon like the love of finwe or hate of feanor love shaped all the story in the books too. Yes gwaihir or farmer maggot shaped the story too. İn hp there is so little love just because they always talk about love pathetically that does not mean there is a lot love. İn LOTR love is behind the story but there is a lot much more love than hp do. And what can I do if voldemort is too stupid to understand love?

  • @LifterC3 I didn't denied hobbit was a child story but I said it is a child story with a good language and fiction which you can't find in most of the books.

  • @lortacfan but i didnt ask why you find HP a child story, but its a decent argument. i only have to add i didnt mind that love was undertone of 3 books out of 7, Harry still went through puberty and love is one the main thing you have to go through... i even want to say, the only thing i was missing in LOTR was love. I know Aragorn fell in love with arwen, sam fell in love with Rosie, but i was missing it, same with The Hobbit. it made me think Tolkien was gay for a long time..

  • @LifterC3 yes you did asked me. Tolkien was not a gay. But dumbledore was (watch 5. or 6. movies' special features rowling said it) you can miss it but I have my proof tolkien was not gay. Araorn fell love with arwen and that shaped the whole story they didn't talk much about love but love was shaping the story that's what I was trying to say.

  • @lortacfan But you just actually admitted your fanboyism, not because you call yourself a Malefan ( lol, wtf ) but you actually agreed you only like LOTR/Tolkiens work because it is classic... thats all your argument. You say a trrue reader favors classic books.. that makes no sense, a true reader just reads books he likes no matter the popularity or its image...

Do you like your sandwich.. No!.. why not?? its not classic..-what..?- any good sandwich lover cares if the sandwhich is classic.

  • @LifterC3 Yes I'm a fan and it is not a bad thing I'm not a blind fanboy of hp who is argueing all the people. And I love all the classic not only tolkien's work. So read my comments again and don't upload meanings for my words. You are diverating the things that I said. A book is not a sandwich. There is no good or bad or classic sandwich. It's just sandwich. I thought you were a clever person but now I understand you are an original fool because of you can compare a sandwich and a book.

  • @lortacfan I must say i am flattered you thought i am clever, but the sandwhich thing was just a joke. If i should judge myself honestly, i prefer HP not because i am a fanboy but because it meant a great deal in my youth and it still does. I already told you, i like LOTR just as much. I prefer Harry over Frodo and Voldemort over Sauron, but their are lots of things i prefer from Tolkiens books, like his writing style

  • @LifterC3 I said I thought you were clever until you wrote that silly comment I thought you were a clever person because you debate well. And if I should judge myself honestly in my opinion LOTR is much much better than Hp.

  • @LifterC3 and I agreed with you when you said tolkien's writing style is better than rowling's

  • they're both awesome. HP is for a younger generation and slaughtered LOTR in the box office with more relatable characters to all ages. LOTR has more depth in its world and the movies are way better made as well as the books. so both sides should quit bitching.

  • @TheSgtkite No one is bitching you little fuckin' fanboy LOTR has only 3 movies Hp has 8 if you had a little mathematic you should know they can!t be compared. At least in the box office. And quit swearing I didn't swear you until you sweared to both sides.

  • @lortacfan yeah I'm the fanboy. take a look at your username recently? and if YOU had any brains, you would know the last HP movie crushed Return of the King in movie sales. im not stupid enough to compare all of them. I love both, so i feel sorry for you that you're just some fanboy upset that a series is doing better then precious lotr.

  • @TheSgtkite yes I looked and I have one brain so I'm not a mutant like you your fuckin horny peter is just a children's tale people just like it because the books was good. The films were a catastrophe. No one will remember hp 50 years later but everyone will remember a classic named Lord of the rings. And look at all lotr vs hp videos. Hp wins at none of them. Tolkien created a whole world with its history and races. İf LOTR was an ocean hp would be a fuckin' puddle.

  • @lortacfan tell you what, i'll come and troll your page 50 years from now. only losers can't move out of the past and except how things are changing. and seriously? your defense is that youtube videos agree with you? tell you what, just go jack off to the fellowship of he ring and free us of your ignorance.

  • @TheSgtkite no ther won't be a youtube 50 years later . NO my defens is not youtube videos agree with me my defence is THE MAKERS NA OTHER USERS agree with me I'l tell you what cry from back of sirious and leave me be.

  • @TheSgtkite as people read books LOTR will always be classic. And if all the people (until I live It won't be that way) stops reading books there are great films and games of it.

  • Harry Potter is for children.

  • Merry couldn't have missed 'cuz hobbits are excellent marksmen. 'nuff said

  • I think its very clear... there are looooaaadddsss of LOTRs fan boys here jeeze.

  • @arle0127 LOTR is a much better critically acclaimed literature, it's not a matter of "fan boys" here, it is highly regarded by eg Oxbridge professors. But I see you're the type of person who resorts to dropping a fan boy argument then goes off to duck his/her head into the sand like an ostrich so you probably won't care about that anyways.

  • @kohakuspirit Well its depends on the individual, I like harry potter more because I grew up with it and it brings excitement to me even now, but I also love LOTRs and I didn’t say which one is the better film, and I didn’t mean fanboys as such but the majority of LOTRs vs harry potter videos on youtube are made by people who favour LOTRs.

  • TO BE CONTINUED????????????

  • OH guys i just love it!!!! VERY VERY brilliant

  • Oh so good! i just laught oud loudly my friend will kill me when she sees this video

  • LOTR!!

  • The Lord of the rings has better...

    Acting

    Action

    Music

    Cinematography

    costumes

    and script

And has won 20 academy awards

    Harry Potter has won non

So its pretty clear that the Lord of the rings wins right?

  • I LOVE both of these movies...

    However...

Harry Potter is Just For Fun

Lord of the Rings is EPIC.

  • LOTR!

  • LOTR İS THE BEST

  • I've been a fan of the lord of the rings all my life because it's just suuuuuchh! A masterpiece I honestly cannot understand what people see in harry potter I don't even know how many go books there are but I hope there done now j.k Rowling is what you call a bit of a witch. Make way for the hobbit because there's probably only one thing that's even close enough to be being as good as lotr and that's probably narnia

  • That's funny! I love both films/books but in the end LOTR gets my vote. Best cast and crew a movie could ever have

  • LOTR vote!!!

  • LOTR <3

  • Has any of you ever thought that Voldy and Sauron have equal immortality codes

    Sauron got the ring

    Voldemort the horcruxes

Both has bound their power to items

  • @rkrokberg nooo... because they are not the same.. Horcruxes are fake. Yes bboth of them did it and that meanssssssss.................... HP İS FAKE

  • cant be compared. lotr got a soul, harry poter just doesnt have the real magic to it.

  • LOTR FOREVER!!!!

  • Lord of the Rings is greater in every way. Those were cinema masterpieces

  • 75,000

  • Harry Potter books > Lord of the rings books

Lord of the rings film > Harry Potter films

None of them is shit compared to the other both are incredible and I find it very hard to say that I think HP books are better than LOTR books and that LOTR films and better than HP films. If one is better it is only very very very slightly.

And lets not forget that Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings will always be united against Twilight. :P

  • harry potter is for the little girl...LOTR is for the men;)

  • I love the FantasyFilm Community because you can actually leanr to get along and agree that both are equal i wish the GamingCommunity could be like this.

  • Harry potter is just for children! Lotr have a great message to everyone

  • @Mazter1veteran

hp isn't just for children. I know kids who start reading it at the age of 6 and adults who are still reading it at the age of 30. I love lotr but i think hp is by far better. Yes lotr has a good message but so does hp. It's not all about

fighting you know. It focuses a lot on love, friendship, courage and belief. But everyone has their own opinion.

  • @8missJZ8 well I just think hp is to overrated and Lotr is so awesome but the books in hp is very good but lotr has 100000 times better movies than hp in my opinion

  • @Mazter1veteran

well everyone has different opinions. they're both great :)

  • @8missJZ8 You f****** mong. Have you not read LoTR, it sends a clear message. It pisses me off so much that that women J.K Rowling, even took that from J.R.R Tolkien, gets away with writing books with shitty characters and plagiarized plots and little maggots go and believe that HP is better. I think the only reason why you think HP is better is because you can't except that J.R.R Tolkien's writing is too complicated for your simple mind. Face it HP is simple and one sided.

  • @Theoneofoneify

dude chill, it's called an opinion

  • @Theoneofoneify

i don't care if you think lotr is better. don't hate.

  • I grew up watching harry potter and lord of the rings, i love them both, but in my opnion harry potter has a really nice feeling to it, maybe because i love hogwarts and when i was younger wish it were real, who knows but both books and films are billiant, but personally i think harry potter is better, and could have had so much more detail, i mean jk rowling could have pulled books out of her ass, the film had to leave out loads of detail, im just saying i could watch HP again and again. <3

  • HARRY POTTER<333

  • OScars are Crap.

They gave Slum dog Millionair 8 Oscar..But in India 100 of movies like that come every year!!!!!!!!

And LOTR is better by Point than Harry Potter.

But Harry potter is really good with awesome Plot.. Im sure LOTR could not have Holded the story for 7 books.

    Stop Comparing.Bot are Awesome!!!

  • @Adarshdravid yes I'm not comparing but search in the internet there are around 19 books of LOTR

  • Also the lord of the rings is the second most read book in the world...it's second to the bible. You can't beat that. However the harry potter books were born to be a classic. I think people should stop arguing which is better and just appreciate the sheer genius of Tolken and Rowling

  • @IndiannaLoseby1995

wtf? harry potter is the second most read book in the world. every 30 seconds someone reads harry potter. Get your facts straight.

  • @8missJZ8 when LOTR was published it was 2. world war and between 1. and 2. world war and now you are comparing these time with now??!! trololololololololollololol

  • @8missJZ8

It may come as a shock to you but I don't check what the most read book in the world is like you do. I just knew that Lord of the Rings was and has been the most read at the time. Take a chill pill, both books and films are good

  • @IndiannaLoseby1995

lol i don't check either, it's called the NEWS.

    and ya both are good.

  • @8missJZ8

I must have missed the news report, oh well both books are good so no harm done:)

  • @IndiannaLoseby1995

    that's true :)

  • @8missJZ8

And how far did you scroll down to find my comment? I posted that at least a month ago???

  • I hate debates like this, because I love both of them. However lord of the rings is on entirely different scale. Also the lord of the rings films actually stuck closely to the book, the harry potter series wavered a bit. However I love both casts from both films and I love all the books.

  • TIE. I love both films dearly, BUT just sayin' DH2 recently passed ROTK in highest grossing, or seomething...but still they both made it up there!

  • ok ok......Biggest selling movie series of all time, biggest selling book series of all time....yer Harry Potter! though i do agree the LOTR movies are better the harry potter books absolutely slay LOTR!

  • I think the books of harry potter are better because the LotR books are way to short.

But i think the movies of LotR are way better than the films of HP :)

  • @RocksBob So in your opinion, someone could write an amazingly crappy series of books that's a total of 20.000 pages long and you would think it's the best just because it's long?

  • @RvV1992

Haha no that's not exactly what i mean :)

I think the LotR books are a bit too short because the story is so complex. The world of LotR is so big, that 1200 pages are just not enough. Tolkien said this himself too.

Harry potter has like 2200 pages.

Don't get me wrong, LotR is just amazing. I loved it, but i like the books of HP a little bit more.

But the movies of LotR are WAY better than the HP movies. (HP is still great though)

  • @RocksBob lord of the rings book is NOT TO SHORT if you have the old version yes thats one of the ibggest books ive seen!

  • Does Harry Potter have songs written about it by one of the greatest bands of all time? I think not.

  • @TheThraex26 does Lotr have it? :D what's it's name? :D

  • GHOST ARMY OWNS ALL.....

  • Both these series will be considered classics forever so no point in fighting eachother. They need to be focusing on fighting Twilight. That series is single handily disgracing everything magical and epic harry potter and lord of the rings ever did for literature and cinemas.

  • Comment removed

  • I gotta admit that both are extremely good. But personally LOTR was always my favorite. I did enjoy the Harry potter books though.

  • Okay, let me get this straight. You guys are comparing Harry Potter to The Lord of The Rings. When CLEARLY Harry Potter wins. Harry Potter is series of 7 series, whereas The Lord of Rings is only a Trilogy. And each of those trilogies were not at all successful as Harry Potter. If you actually read, Harry Potter sold millions more then The Lord of The Rings. And it's the books that rule it out than the movies. So please, stop being ridiculous...

  • @lionking2rules if something is more popular it doesnt make it better. The movie The Shawhank Redemption is seen as the best movies ever (Empire Bay, 2006), while the movie did very bad in the cinema.

  • just because harry potter makes more money doesn't make it better

  • @lionking2rules search on the internet LOTR has around 19-20 books and when LOTR was published it was the times of 2. world war and between 1. and 2. world war. can you compare those times and these times and our times lol. Even in the times of war Tolkien thought about LOTR that J.K. rowling-her name is also a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien- but Rowling wrote hp in her peaceful home so don't be ridiculous and go back to watching lion king 2

  • Harry Potter's got that moron who can turn into a rat

    We got Gollum

  • lord of the ring was the second most read book back in the day and the first is the bible

  • @dlbtmk because unlike lotr and hp twilight will be forgotten when the movie is done. it just become an other book really

  • The Lord of the rings

Books - I have never read such amazing books in my life.

    Films - Amazing

    Harry Potter

Books - Very good and i enjoyed them alot.

Fims - I find myself to be one of the only ones who thought they were not that good. And the only one..who hated the last film and the acting .

Tolkein made literature what it is today..he basically revolutionised it. All works of Tolkein are outstanding and i've come across nothing to rival them. Also not only lotr is amazing..the Silmarillion.

  • @calummmmmmm yer but jk rowling is know to have brought reading to a new genaration

  • @knightofjustic True But Tolkein did that for his own generation and it's still going today as one of the biggest trilogies of all time. The Lord of the rings is over 60 years old and still going strong

Harry Potter books are great but the films just aren't. The magic will only ever be in the books with me.

Radcliffe's acting just pisses me off

  • @calummmmmmm yer but who to say hp wont be going on in 60 years. remember most of the reads read the books as kids by the parents and are probably going to read to there kids.

the acting in hp is good it not like there the best actors in the world seeing how this is there 1st movie really. but it still good radcliff and the others atleast acted like there characters were pictured

  • @knightofjustic Nobody is too..but how long it's been going on for doesn't make it amazing. J.RR Tolkeins works are a masterpiece all modern day writers today owe something to him, he pretty much revolutionized it. He invented a whole world, it's races, it's languages and it's own fucking History dating back thousands of years..You cannot deny that this mans workd just demolish Hp. Also Radcliffe got the part because he looks like HP, Other than that his acting is bad

  • @calummmmmmm agree he like the beatles of authors. but you cant ignore the fact jk rowling passed an achievement not that man people did. u might not like radclif acting yourself but he did win best actor allot. but with lotr there that big error at the end with the eagles it just looks like the chap just put it in there course he could not think of an other way of getting the two out of there. and it kinda is a giant slap to the face

  • He's inspired me to wright books too. I think Tokien has amazing skill. I always remember events and try and immerse myself into my own world, participating in creative writing sessions. Creating my own castles, languages, naming them and creating emotions. I think there are lot's of people with similar imagination, just they can't show it off. I hope to show it in the 'Theme Park Industry'

  • Lord of the rings has got 20 oscars in only 3 movies

  • @Distrutio yer but harry potter is new third in the box office it just passed return of the king.

  • @Distrutio

Lord of the rings:return of the king won all 11 oscars it was nominated for.

  • @StrawberryCorp TLotR was nominated for 13 Oscars!!!!!!!! But its a fantastic worldrecord!!!!

And you´re right it wons 11 Oscars

  • @Distrutio Nah it's 17 Oscars one film got 11 and that's the highest recorded number of oscars ever achieved, it's tied with 2 other films

  • @Distrutio 17.

  • Take all the major and minor characters, soldiers, workers, peasants, beasts and monsters, ents, and anything else that lives, breathes, and/or moves from lord of the rings and make them fight every major and minor character, soldiers, workers, ect. from Harry potter. Think about it. I have no doubt that a ringwraith could easily dispatch a death eater. Lotr wins.

  • This is hilarious. <3 it made me laugh how you put those pieces together. Well done...<3

  • Okay lets settle this. Movie-wise LOTR only has 3, but movie for movie they're much better quality and the actors are much much better (Dan radcliffe might as well say OH MY GOOOOD and he'd not be much worse), book wise LOTR has more and sold more individually, and is a better quality read, but HP nowadays are getting more sales and a larger fan base. The movies for LOTR are consistently amazing, but the HP movies were shit after number 4 (chamber of secrets was amazing) imo? LOTR is better

  • @Willsr14 no it hasn't the last movie is 3rd in the box office while return of the king is in 4th most of the harry potter movies made allot more money them lort.

all the hp movies together made 7506 mill while lotr made 2914 mill. this is not the official number but there close plus harry potter still is making more money. lotr is good but harry potter has surpassed it. at least twilight did not make it into the top 100 list.

  • @Willsr14 plus harry potter is number one in the book list. but im not sure if lord of the rings is even in the same listing as the book they should be

  • @knightofjustic LOTR as a single book(which is what it was originally printed as) has 150 million sales. Then even more once they had the three separate books. Deathly Hallows had 44 million alone, and was the best-selling of any of the harry potters. So LOTR book for book sold way more than harry potter. But together, the harry potters sold more as a series. However there are actually over 10 books by Tolkien all in the LOTR universe, so with those in mind, harry potter actually has less sales.

  • @Willsr14 yer but remember lotr has a good 50 years on harry potter. so naturally it would have sold more copies.
