The reason the South seceded was because Lincoln was voted into office and nobody in the South voted for him. The reason the South seceded was because Lincoln was voted into office and nobody in the South voted for him. The Republicans of that age did care about African Americans, but most just wanted to exploit them to be elected into public office.Southerners weren't right about Slavery, but the war was as much about a lack of Southern representation in the government, in fact the two issues were intertwined. I think that a lot of "rednecks" give the south a bad name but we are intelligent people.

@annfidela There's a debate about if Lincoln had slaves or not so I guess thats up to the individual to believe what they think is right. However it is a historical fact that his wife's family was heavily into slave trading, breeding, and owned them as well.

@nikkayx333 Did you know there were white slaves? The Roman Empire subjugated most of Europe and took slaves there. Later the English would kidnapp young Irish men and sell them abroad as slaves I didn't know about Lincoln's wife's family owned slaves. I believe it.
