This arguement has been fought since the Revenue Act of 1861. Basically, however, the 16th amendment paved the way for income tax but there have been many legal arguements against its ratification by the states.
I think the more recent cases have been refused to be heard by the Supreme Court.
With that stated, all I can tell you is not to pay income tax if you don't think its necessary and don't want to.
