Randy Grubb.really is a master craftsman! I am not a petrol head in any way - but i admire beauty and creativity and it is wonderful to see someone push the envelope like this and be so modest and passionate about what he creates! Great work!
Did he just compare his Decaliner to the Sistine Chapel and the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile in the same setting? I think he did. Oh and if he sees it as "The ultimate advertising tool", then why don't he go with Betty Crocker to match the cupcake grill.
When I saw the pics for this video, I thought it was some kind of updated Dymaxion ((built by Buckminster Fuller in the 30's) just google Dymaxion). I remember those GMC motorhomes and thought they were cool, but this machine is unbelievable!!! What a great piece of road art! Gotta love the flying bridge.
Hi Grants Pass. Love the creative awsome Decoliner. If I had been a guy, I would be doing the same things you are. We come from the 50s era of winged vehicles etc. so never lost the love of the big creative vehicles. Thanks for the tour of GP. Love you here on the coast.
wow!! this is awsome I'm lost for words amazing work, this is something most people will wanna shsre with others to encourage em, to dream big because they come true. GREAT ACOMPLISHEMENT!! THAT'S SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF REARANGING and rebuilding at it's best!!
So a lost art form today is people not taking the same time that you think you do in your work? I'm confused by that statement because how can you know that about other people's projects? You spoke of working thousands of hours on a single project. I've worked thousands of hours on various computer projects. That doesn't warrant my work as anything less hard or not finding a powerful art form in my work.
this has got to be one of the coolest custom builds i have ever seen. i do body work with cars myself, but i dont have this kind of talent. some guys have all the luck.
This is what made and makes America great. The spirit of innovation that comes from the heart and bright minds. Totally impressed with your passion and your results. I used to manage a large company and it was minds like this that made it into the most profitable company in the United states during one of our worst recessions. Innovation, added value, removal of paradigm thinking and of course "Kaizen". Thanks for taking the time to post this. Totally impressed.
One of these days when you least expect it, you will round a corner and a low slung telephone wire or cable tv wire will catch you under the chin, and that's all folks!
This is such an amazing piece of art! I don't think my jaw closed the entire time I watched this video. I am extremely impressed with the level of quality, style, and uniqueness... WOW!
I enjoyed the fuck out of this video and had hella respect for him for custom making everything. Then I lost all of it when he said at the end he built this for advertising. How disappointing.
@XBLZeruiah In the end, it was for advertising for some Co. or not, but he built it out of the love of doing it. That's why so much time and work with his hands went into it. This isn't his only piece of sculpture (as he puts it)... Rembrandt and Pacaso didn't keep all their art either, but they did each one out of love.
@XBLZeruiah he didn't mean it like that. He loves people's reaction to it, and knows that if he sells it to a private collector it will sit in a warehouse or museum and people won't see it. If Red Bull or something buys it, they will tour the country in it and people will get to enjoy it.
Randy is a creative and mechanical genius. I see more and more vehicles now with video game "transformer" grills which are a turn off. Randy knows that styling attracts, and that the vehicle underneath should be designed and working perfectly. That will sell.
@Dragdamar ... Your name Dragdamar sounds like your one of thoses Role Playing Video Game Nerds... Let me guess, you got beat up a lot in school... It really does show.
Why are all of the cool designers and builders building bikes, cars, houses, furniture, guns, and tatoos. I challenge any one of you guys to build a true successor to the The Hammond tone wheel & Wurlitzer electrostatic reed organs. Great electromechanical wonders, used tube amps for amplification. All pure sound from wire and metal. The transistor, bless it's own beauty diverted from electromechanical...wire and metal. Anyone?
The design is quite similar to a Chrysler Airflow circa 1930's.... very awesome. Why not encourage teens to be creative instead of self destructive? Just another idea that would be great for people (communities) to put into practice... Channel excess energy into creativity.
Randy, you are amazing with your stuff. Like someone said here, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU !!!!!!!! If you are ever in the Tampa Bay area in Florida, Clearwater, please let me know, we have some great car clubs in our area, and we would appreciate your visit here. Thanks.
The man is a GENIUS!!! He is very talented & creative! The Decoliner, as well as the other projects they are working on, are incredible!! I was amazed at how easy it was to drive! I am almost speechless & very jealous!! I was I had that much talent & imagination. That looks like a blast! It would be a cool vehicle to take on a ROAD TRIP! It would make a great party bus too!! I can't begin to imagine what it cost. I bet his kids & his grandkids have cool toys to play with that he built.
Looks a bit like the late 30's fuel trucks, the cab look a lot like a 51 White I used to own ! O love it, very nice, It does look retro, art Deco of the 30's !
From one fabricator to another, From fit to finish your creation in 1010% amazing. Very clean, very cool. Driving from that height must be fun. Great job!!!!!!!
My dad ignored me, but he'd discover eventually that I was up to something in the garage, so then he'd go in there to investigate, surmise that I was making either a mess, a hazard, or both, and then he'd do the same thing every time: yank the tool from my hand, throw it in the tool box, slam the lid shut, and snarl through gritted teeth, "STAY OUT OF MY TOOLBOX." Sometimes he would emphasize this by shaking his fist in my face. I was afraid of him, so I learned to not touch his tools.
@hummlyhummly well that's not very nice. That sucks. I used to build stuff in my backyard with my dad. he was a tool and die maker, so he had all the metal working techniques, and he was really nice to me, we would work together on projects, and if there was some hardware problem, or home repair in the house, we would figure a way to fix it.
What a friendly guy! Great video.

DecoLiner, clearly unusual.
I think it would be neat to get an old bus, something from the 50's, and use it as an RV.
None of the awnings that fold onto the side bit.
No, if I were to do something like that I would do a tent, supported in the center only to the bus and pipes to the sides.
In this manner there would be nothing but sleek lines, no large arms along the sides.
