Come to DC. It's not as extravaggant and as fun as Atlanta, but at least you don't have to drive to get anywhere. We have the METRO which goes just about anywhere in the Washington Metropolitan Area!
Khaya you are so right most of these first world cities don't feel like you are away from SA at all. For some reason people don't think we are modernized at all. I always get asked "This must be completely different to where you some from hey?" , I get that most of the time from the Americans. I can't help but laugh before I politely answer . No , actually it's not that different you know.
This is funny, when I was in South Africa, I almost got killed a number of times, when crossing the street, because of the same problem, I am from Holland and we drive on the right side of the road and so when in SA I would look to the wrong side when crossing. I thank God for my South African sister Nandipa, for pulling me back on the sidewalk a number of times.
Lol, Khaya... it doesn't feel like you are in a different country until someone opens their mouth and say something OR you say something and like "pavement" (sidewalk) "boot" (trunk)"trolley" (cart) "robot"(traffic light) and the list goes on! Ya, some "very natural" things we do or say everyday in our own countries seem so weird here! OH, you have to try the KFC in the US, completely different. LOL! I have lived in the states for 10 years now, but still misses SA!
I went to South Africa in 2009 and the cars driving on the left drove me crazy hahah, check my vids I've posted on my channel from my trip if u want. Peace
Wonderful, Khayav! Welcome to America from everyone! What brought you here? Your business? I wish I could have met you when you were here and talk to you for just 5 minutes!
I only live here near Birmingham, Alabama (about 200km from Atlanta)!
Yes, we are the center of the Civil Rights movement , which I guess was similar to apartheid. Even right here in the epicenter of bigotry, hatred, and racism, those are only some people, not all! Yes, I'm white, and love Khayav!
Khayav me breddah, that is both a good and bad thing(mostly good specially for S.A.) that you don't feel like your in another country…. Come back again and next time try the Chipotle.
Well if you ever get a chance come to Portland Oregon. It is a very different place. Why are our electronics so much cheaper when we have more money than many other countries?
WOW! What a fun burst of energy! Now that you have been to Georgia, you have only 49 more states to visit! Where are you going next?!! Have a safe trip back and can't wait for the next post!!
Hi Khaya! Welcome to the USA! If you really want to experience this country you'll have to come to a small town and sit on the front porch with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by (on the wrong side of the road LOL)
omg i love you so much lol don't take the hate, take the love. we are graced with your presence here khayav. dis comes from a white girl stuck in a white world who loves her some black people lol. please keep making vlogs. we miss you dear.
khayav you are the MAN!!!! TAKE ME BACK WITH YOU!!!!! just kidding.. im stuck here till next lifetime!!!!!! next time im staying in my homeland!!! im not going into slavery!!!! uh, oh- to much?? To much lol
So the reason why you don't feel as if you're in another country is that all that's around you there is just modern rampant consumerism - a form of non-culture that infects the entire globe.
There's pockets of what can loosely be described as "culture" - but, for various reasons relating to them tending to be backwards religious bigots, it's probably best you don't go visiting the cowboy rednecks, line dancing to country music.
p.s. As Americans are notorious for too often failing to comprehend irony, sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek humour - due to it requiring a level of self-depreciation, which the regulation jingoism in their education system breeds out of them (repeat after me: "We're number one! We're number one!") - let me just hasten to add that the above is perfectly knowing humour, which is perfectly aware that it's playing on gross stereotypes.
So before the counter-insults start flying - get over yourselves!
This kind of stereotype-based knowing humour is mocking those who believe the stereotypes genuinely apply to everyone, just as much as it mocks those for whom the stereotype is quite true.
Or, to put it more succinctly, I'm an equal opportunities mocker.
Our entire species is ridiculous. Credit where credit is due, I say. :D
There are potholes in the roads in the USA?!!! Yikes, i thought only third world countries like mine had potholes in the roadways,....great seeing Khayav and WELCOME TO NORTH AMERICA, now ya gotta get to know SOUTH AMERICA!! = D
Just letting you know: stay out of Oklahoma, Mississippi, Virginia, and Georgiahhh shit, too late Khayav... ^.^
Seriously though, welcome! Hoping one of our many idiots/assholes doesn't leave an impression on you; we're by-and-large a good group of people, the same as it is anywhere else (except I see you've already noticed we all live in a giant mall... that might take some getting used to...).
I was in Cape Town last year studying a UCT for a semester and I had to get used to YOU GUYS driving on the WRONG side of the road!!! lol But I hope you have a great time here. Next time I'm in SA, I hope to spend more time in Joburg.
Hah, that's weird, I recall you saying that you feel you're going to "Africa" if you go to visit Botswana or Namibia or something. But now you're in America and if feels like you're home XD

Atlanta is a developing city, its isn't an old city, lets not forget that it was burnt to a crisp in the civil war.
There are a lot of South Africans in the Atlanta area, however as you might guess most South African-Americans are white.
I hope you don't bring your poisonous politics to the United States.
