  • put windows 7 home

  • it is not the PCI TV tuner card it is Windows Media Center

  • Not sure if this was suggested already, but how about running the PCI TV tuner card it in a different computer for awhile?

  • @raymangold22 yeah it has been suggested but it defeats the purpose of having a media center PC I think I can install it in the IBM Net Vista thats beside the desk and TV

  • @vcamnowaa I was wondering if the blown caps might have anything to do with it.

Computers are very particular about proper voltages being sent. I assure you that with blown caps, it IS affecting something surely, in one way or another.

I do know in my HP media center gave me so many issues; I sold it and am never buying one again.

  • @raymangold22 I know but the card worked for only 3 weeks then nothing one other guy had the same problem but never got it fixed his HP Tower was a older model but it had the same Tuner Card and the same video card

  • @vcamnowaa im soo sorry for you man. Can i make a suggestion: get a new tv card and windows 7

  • @MrAkin12b well I took one step I bought a video card and installed windows 7 I can't get the media center to work on windows 7 with a video card that is 128MB's in size. So I had to buy a 256MB video card for media center to work. Now I have to buy a TV Tuner Card

  • what you can do, is remove it from the computer, run the computer, and let it figure out it isn't there, then after trying mediacenter, turn off the computer, and put the tuner back in. but make sure the contacts are clean. even try using another card slot. but yet another thing is, you can't record certain channels like CBS, NBC, and ESPN due to copyright laws. Google it. this was due to a microsoft update.

  • @88ariesk Ok I will try that but I did unplug the card and plugged it into a different PCI Slot but that didn't do anything but I will clean the contacts and let the computer figure out the card has been unplugged I don't get those channels on media center I just get analog signals but I only get 4 channels and Global News is one of the clearest out of all the others

  • One possibility I can think of is selective power management, go to device manager and check the tv cards properties and on one of the tabs there maybe an option stating allow the computer to shut this device down to save power, make sure it;s un-checked. Usually one of the first things I check when fault finding.

  • Can you give me the name of the tv tuner card and the model number and I'll do some research, my friend's aunt had this problem with her Dell

  • @silverperzon its a Conexant 2388x Tuner (FM1236 MK3, NTSC) I hope this helps if you need more info I'll check some more!

  • @vcamnowaa Alright, I'll see what I come up with!

  • @silverperzon Woops that this will defiantly help! its a ASUS PVR-416 TV/FM Tuner

  • @vcamnowaa Ah that works better, because all I found was driver downloads, hopefully I find something with this info.

  • @vcamnowaa Well all I found was that this is a very unreliable card, and that it's usually a screw-up with drivers as well

  • @silverperzon The hell it is lol I have the correct drivers for it and it worked for 3 weeks but when I came home on Sunday only to find out two simpson episodes weren't recorded and that I can't watch TV at all I knew something was up I have no clue on how to fix this and I'm currently looking at different articles and many people have this problem. One of them actually has this exact same computer with the same card problems.

  • @vcamnowaa That sucks and ah Technology, don't you just love it? haha

  • @silverperzon I think its a pain in the ass lol

  • Check if its loose in the PCI slots.

It may not be recieving enough power from blown caps.etc.

Find the driver on the HP website for this model.

If all hell breaks loose, well, you got the GX270, and GX100.

  • @ErrorsAndComputers I have downloaded every driver for this model from the HP website I downloaded the old 2003 drivers and the updated 2006 drivers but it doesn't do much and I've also unplugged and moved the card to a different PCI slot but that makes no difference and I know the card works because on windows messenger when I go to the audio and video settings I can see channel six no problem and when I switch to a different channel in media center the channel in messenger changes

  • Oh no that's not good! Hmmmm... Did you replace all 7 blown capacitors? If not, probably thats why, the computer inside isn't functioning properly...

  • @TheCanadianToast No I haven't been able to do that I have a very crappy soldering gun and the article that I read on the internet this guy has a HP Media center without blown capacitors but different model number his tuner card was messed up too! he upgraded to vista home and it worked for him for about 3 weeks then one day it stopped working for him. I did a complete format on the HDD and installed Vista Ultimate and was able to watch tv for 3 weeks and then nothing very similar stories here!

  • @vcamnowaa Oh wow, that is a very similar issue from someone else as well! I guess HP had a bit of problems when they were manufacturing this Tower Computer I guess...

  • @TheCanadianToast I think the company who manufactured the Tuner Card had a problem with the tower due to compatibility problems

  • @vcamnowaa your right, that could be true, my mistake. :O

  • @TheCanadianToast Its Ok I was switching it around HP Doesn't manufacture Tuner card not that I'm aware of but Asus does!

  • I suggest limiting the possibilities first and try some other software such as CyberLinks Power Cinema.

  • That's because you have Windows Vista installed, Vista's kernel is NT6 and even compatible XP devices aren't compatible with Vista, reason is known - NT6 has different driver device arch. than XP, that's why older hardware doesn't have drivers for NT6.x. kernels, try to find generic drivers - this may help but this can also give you BSoDs.

  • @crogeek well if its not compatible then why did it work for those 3 weeks? and not work now the guy who has a HP Media Center PC is an older model and his TV Card worked for 3 weeks and then stopped working. Only differance is he upgraded to home premium and I did a complete format and I installed Vista Ultimate

  • @vcamnowaa hmm then throw this tuner card @ junk and buy another one, I had similar problems with DVD/RW drive and I fixed all problems by buying new one.

  • what a bitch.. lmao, i have a 50's mechanicle type righter and a late 80's electric type righter :)

  • 7:28 What the hell is that like little specs on the display

  • @gta4life55 To be honest I don't know lol thats never happened before

  • I think you can try to switch the cards in PCI card slots, Disable then re enable TV tuner whiten Desk Manger, Or check the settings in media center

  • yea, i actully killed a hard disk.so that's sad too.

  • My tv card does that all the time XD i ended up putting it in a different pc and it worked fine :/

  • @TheDataZoo Shit I really want to use the card on this computer but I guess if this is the way to solve the problem I might have to consider it
