Owen praises director after director except for Gilroy where he only mentions the quality of the script in passing. Outside of Altman he esp. goes overboard for Tykwer - based on what - small bore films like Run Lola Run & Heaven, or God help us Perfume?
Gilroy had the actors repeat one scene fifty times on average, just so he could make choices during editing. A stronger director wouldn't exhaust his actors like that. The script was decent though.
obviously, you're speaking of a scene in Duplicity (haven't seen it, here in Cambodia I have to wait for the pirate) ... which one, I'll look for it. It's not always the director. Forman told me years ago that he fought Nicholson nearly everyday on Cuckoo's Nest where Jack not thinking he nailed it wanted one more take. Also, De Niro demanding perfection did that entrance scene in Lowry's apt in Brazil about 76 takes, imagine playing Sam & having to bang your head in the fridge that many times!
I think your assumption is based on very shaky grounds. Gilroy and Owen have been very complimentary of one another in all of their interviews. But if Owen doesnt mention Gilroy as one of the most talented he's worked with, it is because Gilroy is still a light-weight compared to Robert Altman, Mike Nichols, Alfonso Cuaron, Spike Lee, and even Tom Tykwer. Gilroy might be a good director but he still has a long way to go.
Tony Gilroy didn't do The International although you probably already know that. . .
Just because they don't mention each other doesn't necessarily mean they have a beef.
You're just speculation & causing a rumor. I can see why you think that & that has happened to various stars & directors some which end ugly (have you seen the story about Lili Tomlin & director David O. Russell on I Heart Huckabees?
You got to remember that Clive Owen got his start here in America with Bourne identity

Did you see The International? That poorly paced, over wrought Guggenheim scene? Was that worth 6 weeks of shooting?
And Let's have a moratorium on all aerial shots with clicking typed in location info.

And that's Clive Owen's fault?
