The book is about the 29 depression and how the government put into place programs and laws to encourage marriage and family and discourage living alone for one reason:TAXES! Government can't count on single people as a reliable source of taxes like married people with children. So don't beat up on yourself too much, our society has it's intention by design.
It's not hard getting a women. All you have to do is give them your pay check for the rest of your life and do their endless honey do list until you die. And remember after you finish painting the house, mowing the lawn, pruning the trees, washing the close, fixing the leaks, changing the oil, replacing the filters, painting the room, building the furniture she just picked up on sale, washing and waxing her car, you are in an "equal" relationship. That's what she'll call it: "equal."
After 36 years, I'd like to believe one day I'll fit in society and maybe even have my first girlfriend, but you can't make people like you. I firmly believe we have not evolved enough to rid of humans subconcious biological inate system that natural rejects certain people. I'm to the point now, where I figure I won't have to worry about being alone much longer because I'm sure my luck will run out while doing some kind of adrenaline sport, comes with the turf of risk taking behavior.
I'm a loner, and I agree society places too much on the follower mentality. So if you don't follow something is wrong with you? We need both , loners invent and think outside the box. Somethings should be followed(laws,etc.)

i do enjoy being a loner by choice. i have a lady and a little daughter to keep me company. too many fake people out there and not to mention judgmental people looking to talk shit behind your back. Being a loner can actually help you learn about people. like who you can trust to be real with you and accept you for who you are, and then who the phony needy clowns are... I think its fair to say that the latter definatly dominates.
But while loner types don't need society, society needs us. We're the ones who will speak out and say "this is bullshit" while everyone else goes along with the herd. Then when they're done sniggering they think gee, maybe that guy was right. The loners are the ones who speak the truth when no-one wants to hear it.

The older I get, the less I want to put up with the Bullshit of the world...I am a nurse so I work 36 hrs a week with patients, doctors, hospital administration, families, coworkers...I have a few close people in my life that I can confide in, go out for a bite or watch a movie, and get my fill of human contact..but the rest of the time, I like my music and my books and my art and my pets...I think many of us loners are tired of others telling us that we are abnormal...
People are afraid of 'loners', because loners don't need people. We move amongst society if and when it suits us, but ultimately we don't need it. I remember my 1st girlfriend, I don't think she ever went longer than a week between break-up and next boyfriend. Because that's who she was. She was "insert name here"'s girlfriend. On her own she almost faded away & became transparent; I thought 'I will never be like that'.When you need to be in a relationship so desperately, you don't deserve one.

I'm a loner too. I split up with my girlfriend who i lived with for 3 years and now it's just me. I don't like the idea of having to entertain people so i like being on my own. Maybe my heroin addiction helps me cope with being a loner as well.

Yeah mate i wish you lived in England we could be friends. When i was at school i was called ugly and i got teased for having dandruff lol. When i went to college i just isolated myself from everyone else and while they were out smoking joints and stuff i sat in the library on my own. By the age of 20 i was a heroin addict cos that helped me to forget my problems. Am on methadone now trying to get off drugs.
When I was young I had digusting dandruff and terrible twitches. I was a punching bag until I started to stomp the bullies. My dad was an Irish drunk, basically. My best friends became addicts, stole from me and overdosed and died. I stayed straight. If I didn't have a near-crippled back. I'd be an athelete. I'm totally straight. I really, really wish you'd kick all drugs. That includes methadone. That stuff eats your bones and teeth. I've lived with suicidal loneliness and never taken comfort .
Yeah. I got more of a thrill out of stabbing myself to pieces with the needle than the gear itself. Also, the gear sends me to sleep for much of the day so i can avoid the depression of being alive. It's really weird but i was happier in prison than being out in the world. At least then you don't have many choices to make and you can get into a routine. I have'nt worked sinse 2002 i find depression makes you feel so knackered.
Not having a job can make one go crazy. The free time makes one's mind wander to bad thoughts. It's worse when you're alone. I hate my job. Working sucks but not working is worse. Luckily I have to work. Otherwise I'd be a transient hobo bum in the gutter. So the fear of homelessness and starvation keeps me straight. Never give up hope. Get angry. Get hateful. Get vack at all those who laugh at you. Screw them and get back in life. You can do it, seriously.
Yeah it's really shit i'm trying to reduce 5 mls a day. It makes you lose loads of weight and you get absolutely no buzz from it but if you stop it too quickly you go into withdrawal and that is really bad. Have you never had a woman in your life ever? That is really amazing for someone to be so honest about it most people lie about all their conquests! I've only had a full sex relationship with one woman and even then i had to use viagra.

Being a loner can actually help you learn about people. like who you can trust to be real with you and accept you for who you are, and then who the phony needy clowns are... I think its fair to say that the latter definatly dominates.

But while loner types don't need society, society needs us. We're the ones who will speak out and say "this is bullshit" while everyone else goes along with the herd. Then when they're done sniggering they think gee, maybe that guy was right. The loners are the ones who speak the truth when no-one wants to hear it.

You are very astute! The older I get, the less I want to put up with the Bullshit of the world...I am a nurse so I work 36 hrs a week with patients, doctors, hospital administration, families, coworkers...I have a few close people in my life that I can confide in, go out for a bite or watch a movie, and get my fill of human contact..but the rest of the time, I like my music and my books and my art and my pets...I think many of us loners are tired of others telling us that we are abnormal...

People are afraid of 'loners', because loners don't need people. We move amongst society if and when it suits us, but ultimately we don't need it. I remember my 1st girlfriend, I don't think she ever went longer than a week between break-up and next boyfriend. Because that's who she was. She was "insert name here"'s girlfriend. On her own she almost faded away & became transparent; I thought 'I will never be like that'.When you need to be in a relationship so desperately, you don't deserve one.

Hermits are hermits and humans are humans. We're not the same, obviously. But it's okay for you to create a secluded little world for yourself to live in. I just think there's more in your life worth living not within your tiny personal space. It's not up to me though.

I understand that humans are generally a social species, however, humans are also the most complex. Some of us turn out more solitary than others for whatever reason.

Actually most social people are really the lonely ones. If they don't have others around them, it's torture to them, while we don't need others around us for we are happiest being alone. Enstein was a loner, Albert Ball was a loner, and I am a loner.

nino, i agree. when i was a loner (about a year ago) i was completely fine with being alone at home or going out to climb trees or waht ever. i was pretty much secure and happy. now taht i have friends, whenever im at home alone i feel empty, extreemly self consious, and scared that people are talking behind my back. its just constant war with myself when im alone

I'm a loner too. I split up with my girlfriend who i lived with for 3 years and now it's just me. I don't like the idea of having to entertain people so i like being on my own. Maybe my heroin addiction helps me cope with being a loner as well.

It's worse when you've had one and then have one no more especially when you've lived with them. I keep waking up in the early hours wondering why i'm in bed on my own lol it's a nasty feeling but as for friends - wtf needs them?

You're still better off than I. I'm a total loser-loner. The only physical contact I've ever gotten was when I was jumped and nearly mugged. Sexual frustration makes one strong and angry. Bashing someone's face in doean't substitute for not having a girlfriend.

What do you look like mate? If you look ok you can go in a chatroom and meet some bird. Chat rooms are good if you are shy because you can take time to think up what to type. I feel exactly like you, sometimes i feel like doing something really bad just to become known and famous. Anythings better than just being a nobody.

I really appreciate your genuine sympathy. When I was young, I was ugly. Now I'm just old. I was always rejected. I was and am "the invisible guy". I guess I'm shallow. But I have NO interest in women anywhere near my age. I'm just waiting to die. In the meantime, I'll just take comfort in a fantasy life. Where people don't shit on me. Thanks for the advice. Yeah mate i wish you lived in England we could be friends. When i was at school i was called ugly and i got teased for having dandruff lol. When i went to college i just isolated myself from everyone else and while they were out smoking joints and stuff i sat in the library on my own. By the age of 20 i was a heroin addict cos that helped me to forget my problems. Am on methadone now trying to get off drugs.

When I was young I had digusting dandruff and terrible twitches. I was a punching bag until I started to stomp the bullies. My dad was an Irish drunk, basically. My best friends became addicts, stole from me and overdosed and died. I stayed straight. If I didn't have a near-crippled back. I'd be an athelete. I'm totally straight. I really, really wish you'd kick all drugs. That includes methadone. That stuff eats your bones and teeth. I've lived with suicidal loneliness and never taken comfort .

Yeah. I got more of a thrill out of stabbing myself to pieces with the needle than the gear itself. Also, the gear sends me to sleep for much of the day so i can avoid the depression of being alive. It's really weird but i was happier in prison than being out in the world. At least then you don't have many choices to make and you can get into a routine. I have'nt worked sinse 2002 i find depression makes you feel so knackered.

Not having a job can make one go crazy. The free time makes one's mind wander to bad thoughts. It's worse when you're alone. I hate my job. Working sucks but not working is worse. Luckily I have to work. Otherwise I'd be a transient hobo bum in the gutter. So the fear of homelessness and starvation keeps me straight. Never give up hope. Get angry. Get hateful. Get vack at all those who laugh at you. Screw them and get back in life. You can do it, seriously.

Yeah it's really shit i'm trying to reduce 5 mls a day. It makes you lose loads of weight and you get absolutely no buzz from it but if you stop it too quickly you go into withdrawal and that is really bad. Have you never had a woman in your life ever? That is really amazing for someone to be so honest about it most people lie about all their conquests! I've only had a full sex relationship with one woman and even then i had to use viagra.

After watching it again, it seems like while it portrays the life of a loner well, it also parodies the lifestyle of the non conformist. The description, "who says he can't smoke in his apartment?" just seems sarcastic to me.
Don't get me wrong; I loved this video, and when I watched it again 9 months later, I practically saw myself sitting on that couch. I just thought it had a bit of a sarcastic tone was all. :D
