  • there's also a Winnipeg Fishbowl in the background with several others.........

  • melts my butter! Just beautiful~!

  • that's wat i thought, 40 and 35 footers in speed, but the funny thing is the jump looks like a 35ft, but the making of the movie was a 40ft, well watever if ur not a bus lover u won't notice but i did so that makekme a buslover!!!!....lol

  • Our area had this bus but it was the GM T6H-4521A that was purchased by the Mercer County (NJ) Improvement Authority (They ran the Mercer Metro before New Jersey Transit took it over in 1984) in 1970, and ran on Mercer County (NJ) Streets from 1970 until 1985. These were the only Fishbowls that were purchased new.

  • in Toronto till about a year ago TTC (Toronto Transit Commission ) which is public transit still used these buses, you see less of these being towed then the new ones that they are using now. I like the look of this bus classic,

  • RIP GM two stroke

  • Now We're Cooking. Throwback "All The Way". Now That's A Memory To Live With. Nice Video My Friend.

  • With the engine sitting so far back behind the wheels how did the transmission attach to the engine and the rear wheels? The engine is positioned laterally and I'm assuming the transmission is attached to the engine in the same fashion as in front wheel drive cars. If thats not the case then how does the power reach the wheels.

  • This is the Sweetest Bus EVER!!!!!

  • This is also the most reliable product that ever came out of Detroit. That's what American Diesel and Technology are about. This other crap they have today is just rubbish.

Quiet Buses are For Girls, if they dont like it tell em to Shut up!!!!

  • like the old Ford school bus in the background

  • A truly timeless classic machine, I absolutely love the GM New Look, they weren't just the best looking bus, but the most reliable & best built too, a crying shame they have all been replaced by rubbish now, its the same story here in the UK :(

  • this was the bus they used in the movie Speed

  • Sort of, same basic model yes. But the one's in speed were a little different.

  • They used the 40 footers, right?

  • They used 40 and 35 footers, there were roughly a dozen different buses for different scenes. Some interior scenes used 35 footers.

  • @kevlo86 It's got that Detroit Diesel engine, right?

  • @kevlo86 what is the max speed of this bus?

  • @MrRackensack You're rite. They should've used an RTS 4sp PBN AT.

  • i think alot of places uses this bus, they had the same kind in vancouver canada when i was a kid

  • the startup thing is just how rgrta's orion v 1154 died. It wouldn't start up

  • If they made buses that sounded like these, maybe less people would drive today.

  • Emissions-wise, maybe.

  • @smokefreak2006 Exactly! Forget making buses quieter. If they sound like this they deserve to be loud!

  • 4:54 to 5:01 it sounds like a D40

  • how many liters is it?

  • its a 7.2 liter v6

  • An even 7 liters, actually.

  • I grew up on Boston T New Looks. I'm visiting Boston again in April, for the first time in a long time. Anyone know if there are any New Looks in service in the Boston area at all?

  • None that I know of. Long gone several years ago to the best of my knowledge.

  • They may have a few in their historical fleet, that which I do not know. Their 1979 and 1980 New Looks were specified the same way as many Canadian-market New Looks (6V-71N engine and V-730 transmission).

  • I remember my old bus. I do miss it at times, but at least we got to take it for a good drive before it went back to Edmonton Transit to join their historic collection.

  • 2 speed? lol! thats terrible but it sounds like a hard runner

  • The earlier Fishbowls and GM Old look buses have only one speed. it uses the torque converter to start out and get up to speed, then locks and directly drives the wheels.

  • man, i remember these busses!

  • i do to i just got off a 1982 gm

  • Beautiful bus and sounds great! =)

  • I love to collection of buses you have in your lot. We have about 5 that we are working on now. 1965, 1972, 1982, 1983 GM New Looks, and a 1985 GM Classic.

  • I hope you guys will show it on video when it will be done! ;) Fishbowl and Classics are my favorite! In Quebec City Transit they have a few 1985 and 86 Classics left but they will out of service in june 08... To bad!

  • Well despite the 2 speed transmission, it's stil a pretty bus :-)

  • Yikes, only a 2 speed? Oh dear! Not good at all really.

  • Yea, two speed. top speed for most of these buses was about 80-90km/h. the 2 speed transmission was very common with these buses from 1959-1977. And these buses were sold in mass quantities all over North America. Still works just fine for routes that stayed on city roads.

They're still around in Southern California.

  • And of course, people such as you have these. Helps to preserve these. A number of agencies still use these..

  • @kevlo86

Much more common that what some other baby fishbowls had, an Allison MT 543.

  • Nice old bus but why do the yank engine have to scream at high revs so much? There is really no need for that at all. Why not make a lower revving engine so it'sa not screaming it's gutts out, you know like us Europeans have done for years lol.

  • The bus has a 2 speed transmission. It would be difficult to get any sort of decent speed without getting the engine to work hard into its highest RPMs

  • Understand that this Detroit Diesel is a 2 stroke cycle engine..It only revs to around 2400rpm but since each cylinder fires on EVERY downstroke, it sounds as if it's revving twice as fast. At 4:55 in the vid you can clearly hear the blower whine, COOL!

  • BEAUTIFUL Work Kevin! Nice one!
